An introduction to the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is given. The motivation for ``low-energy supersymmetry is reviewed, and the structure of the MSSM is outlined. In its most general form, the MSSM can be viewed as a low-energy effective theory parametrized by a set of arbitrary soft-supersymmetry-breaking parameters. A variety of techniques for reducing the parameter freedom of the MSSM are surveyed. The search for supersymmetry below and above the threshold for supersymmetric particle production presents a challenging task for experimentalists at present and future colliders.

The realization that supersymmetry (SUSY), if softly broken at the weak scale, can stabilize the Higgs sector led many authors to explore the role it may play in particle physics. It was widely anticipated that superpartners would reveal themselves once the TeV scale was probed in high energy collisions. Experiments at the LHC have not yet revealed any sign for direct production of superpartners, or for any other physics beyond the Standard Model. This has led to some authors to question whether weak scale SUSY has a role to play in stabilizing the Higgs sector. We show that SUSY models with just the minimal particle content may well be consistent with data and simultaneously serve to stabilize the Higgs sector, if model parameters generally regarded as independent turn out to be appropriately correlated. In our view, it would be premature to ignore this possibility, given that we do not understand the underlying mechanism of SUSY breaking. We advocate using the electroweak scale quantity, $delew$, to determine whether a given SUSY spectrum might arise from a theory with low fine-tuning, even when the parameters correlations mentioned above are present. We find that all such models contain light higgsinos and that this leads to the possibility of new strategies for searching for SUSY. We discuss phenomenological implications of these models for SUSY searches at the LHC and its luminosity and energy upgrades, as well as at future electron-positron colliders. We conclude that natural SUSY, defined as no worse than a part in 30 fine-tuning, will not escape detection at a $pp$ collider operating at 27~TeV and an integrated luminosity of 15~ab$^{-1}$, or at an electron-positron collider with a centre-of-mass energy of 600~GeV.

A recent cosmological bound on the gravitino mass, $m_{3/2}<4.7$ eV, together with LHC results on the Higgs mass and direct searches, excludes minimal gauge mediation with high reheating temperatures. We discuss a minimal, vector-mediated model which incorporates the seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses, allows for thermal leptogenesis, ameliorates the $mu$ problem, and achieves the observed Higgs mass and a gravitino as light as $1$-$2$ eV.
We stress that the lack of direct evidence for supersymmetry forces the soft mass parameters to lie very close to the critical line separating the broken and unbroken phases of the electroweak gauge symmetry. We argue that the level of criticality, or fine-tuning, that is needed to escape the present collider bounds can be quantitatively accounted for by assuming that the overall scale of the soft terms is an environmental quantity. Under fairly general assumptions, vacuum-selection considerations force a little hierarchy in the ratio between m_Z^2 and the supersymmetric particle square masses, with a most probable value equal to a one-loop factor.

There is significant interest in RHIC heavy ion collisions at $sqrt{s_{NN}}=$5--50 GeV, motivated by a search for the QCD phase transition critical point. The lowest energies for this search are well below the nominal RHIC gold injection collision energy of $sqrt{s_{NN}}=19.6$ GeV. There are several operations challenges at RHIC in this regime, including longitudinal acceptance, magnet field quality, lattice control, and luminosity monitoring. We report on the status of work to address these challenges, including results from beam tests of low energy RHIC operations with protons and gold, and potential improvements from different beam cooling scenarios.
In models of low-energy gauge mediation, the observed Higgs mass is in tension with the cosmological limit on the gravitino mass $m_{3/2} lesssim 16$ eV. We present an alternative mediation mechanism of supersymmetry breaking via a $U(1)$ $D$-term with an $E_6$-inspired particle content, which we call vector mediation. The gravitino mass can be in the eV range. The sfermion masses are at the 10 TeV scale, while gauginos around a TeV. This mechanism also greatly ameliorates the $mu$-problem.
