The D meson production at forward rapidities in d+Au processes is calculated using a pQCD based model, assuming that this treatment could be used as a baseline for distinct dynamical and medium effects. It is analysed how the nuclear effects in the nuclear partonic distributions may affect this process at RHIC and LHC energies. An enhancement in the moderate $q_T$ region for RHIC, due to anti-shadowing in the nuclear medium, is found. Our prediction for LHC suggests that shadowing will suppress the D meson spectra for $q_T<14$ GeV.

Within the framework of $k_t$-factorization, we compute the differential cross section for the production of $B$ and $D$ mesons, using a general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme. Our calculations include all relevant $2to 2$ processes. We explain how to include the $2to 1$ process in our calculations, but argue this is not (numerically) relevant at moderate transverse momentum due to its cancellation with the subtraction term. We apply this formalism to $pp$ collisions and compare our results with ALICE and LHCb data at central and forward rapidity.
The production of D* and D mesons in inelastic scattering of 160 GeV/c muons off a ^6LiD target has been investigated with the COMPASS spectrometer at CERN for 0.003 (GeV/c)^2 < Q^2 < 10 (GeV/c)^2 and 3x10^-5< x_Bj < 0.1. The study is based on 8100 events where a D^0 or anti D^0 is detected subsequently to a D*+ or D*- decay, and on 34000 events, where only a D^0 or anti D^0 is detected. Kinematic distributions of D*, D and K*_2 are given as a function of their energy E, transverse momentum p_T, energy fraction z, and of the virtual photon variables nu, Q^2 and x_Bj. Semi-inclusive differential D* production cross-sections are compared with theoretical predictions for D* production via photon-gluon fusion into open charm. The total observed production cross-section for D*+/- mesons with laboratory energies between 22 and 86 GeV is 1.9 nb. Significant cross-section asymmetries are observed between D*+ and D*- production for nu<40 GeV and z>0.6.
The PHENIX experiment has measured $phi$ meson production in $d$$+$Au collisions at $sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV using the dimuon and dielectron decay channels. The $phi$ meson is measured in the forward (backward) $d$-going (Au-going) direction, $1.2<y<2.2$ ($-2.2<y<-1.2$) in the transverse-momentum ($p_T$) range from 1--7 GeV/$c$, and at midrapidity $|y|<0.35$ in the $p_T$ range below 7 GeV/$c$. The $phi$ meson invariant yields and nuclear-modification factors as a function of $p_T$, rapidity, and centrality are reported. An enhancement of $phi$ meson production is observed in the Au-going direction, while suppression is seen in the $d$-going direction, and no modification is observed at midrapidity relative to the yield in $p$$+$$p$ collisions scaled by the number of binary collisions. Similar behavior was previously observed for inclusive charged hadrons and open heavy flavor indicating similar cold-nuclear-matter effects.
We have investigated the process of $Lambda_bto Lambda Dbar{D}$, by taking into account the contributions from the $s$-wave $Dbar{D}$ interaction within the coupled-channel unitary approach, and the intermediate $psi(3770)$ resonance. In addition to the peak of the $psi(3770)$, an enhancement near the $Dbar{D}$ mass threshold is found in the $Dbar{D}$ invariant mass distributions, which should be the reflection of the $Dbar{D}$ bound state. We would like to encourage our experimental colleagues to measure the $Dbar{D}$ invariant mass distribution of the $Lambda_bto Lambda Dbar{D}$ process, which is crucial to search for the $Dbar{D}$ bound state and to understand the heavy-hadron heavy-hadron interactions.
The extent of a locally equilibrated parton plasma in d + Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV is investigated as a function of centrality in a nonequilibrium-statistical framework. Based on a three-sources model, analytical solutions of a relativistic diffusion equation are in precise agreement with recent data for charged-particle pseudorapidity distributions. The moving midrapidity source indicates the size of the local thermal equilibrium region after hadronization. In central d + Au collisions it contains 19% of the produced particles.
