We present the results of our perturbative calculations of the static quark potential, small Wilson loops, the static quark self energy, and the mean link in Landau gauge. These calculations are done for the one loop Symanzik improved gluon action, and the improved staggered quark action.

Although taste violations significantly affect the results of staggered calculations of pseudoscalar and heavy-light mesonic quantities, those entering staggered calculations of baryonic quantities have not been quantified. Here I develop staggered chiral perturbation theory in the light-quark baryon sector by mapping the Symanzik action into heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. For 2+1 dynamical quark flavors, the masses of flavor-symmetric nucleons are calculated to third order in partially quenched and fully dynamical staggered chiral perturbation theory. To this order the expansion includes the leading chiral logarithms, which come from loops with virtual decuplet-like states, as well as terms the order of the cubed pion mass, which come from loops with virtual octet-like states. Taste violations enter through the meson propagators in loops and tree-level terms the order of the squared lattice spacing. The pattern of taste symmetry breaking and the resulting degeneracies and mixings are discussed in detail. The resulting chiral forms are appropriate to lattice results obtained with operators already in use and could be used to study the restoration of taste symmetry in the continuum limit. I assume that the fourth root of the fermion determinant can be incorporated in staggered chiral perturbation theory using the replica method.

On the lattice searching for the gluon condensate is difficult because a large perturbative contribution to the expectation value of the action has to be subtracted before looking for a small contribution from a possible gluon condensate. The perturbative calculation therefore has to be very precise. We use a modified version of stochastic perturbation theory to calculate a perturbative series in a boosted coupling, which converges more rapidly than the series with the usual lattice coupling, reducing the uncertainties in our results. We do not see any condensate of dimension two, as suggested by some earlier lattice studies, but we do find a contribution from a dimension four condensate. The value of this condensate is approximately 0.04(1) GeV^4, but with large uncertainties.
There has been growing evidence that the infrared enhancement of the form factors defining the full quark-gluon vertex plays an important role in realizing a dynamical breakdown of chiral symmetry in quantum chromodynamics, leading to the observed spectrum and properties of hadrons. Both the lattice and the Schwinger-Dyson communities have begun to calculate these form factors in various kinematical regimes of momenta involved. A natural consistency check for these studies is that they should match onto the perturbative predictions in the ultraviolet, where non-perturbative effects mellow down. In this article, we carry out a numerical analysis of the one-loop result for all the form factors of the quark-gluon vertex. Interestingly, even the one-loop results qualitatively encode most of the infrared enhancement features expected of their non-perturbative counter parts. We analyze various kinematical configurations of momenta: symmetric, on-shell and asymptotic. The on-shell limit enables us to compute anomalous chromomagnetic moment of quarks. The asymptotic results have implications for the multiplicative renormalizability of the quark propagator and its connection with the Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin transformations, allowing us to analyze and compare various Ans$ddot{a}$tze proposed so far.
We report on a study of the light quark spectrum using an improved gauge action and both Kogut-Susskind and Naik quark actions. We have studied six different lattice spacings, corresponding to plaquette couplings ranging from 6.8 to 7.9, with five to six quark masses per coupling. We compare the two quark actions in terms of the spectrum and restoration of flavor symmetry. We also compare these results with those from the conventional action.
We study various improved staggered quark Dirac operators on quenched gluon backgrounds in lattice QCD. We find a clear separation of the spectrum of eigenvalues into high chirality, would-be zero modes and others, in accordance with the Index Theorem. We find the expected clustering of the non-zero modes into quartets as we approach the continuum limit. The predictions of random matrix theory for the epsilon regime are well reproduced. We conclude that improved staggered quarks near the continuum limit respond correctly to QCD topology.
