We study the photoluminescence spectrum of a low density ($ u <1$) two-dimensional electron gas at high magnetic fields and low temperatures. We find that the spectrum in the fractional quantum Hall regime can be understood in terms of singlet and triplet charged-excitons. We show that these spectral lines are sensitive probes for the electrons compressibility. We identify the dark triplet charged-exciton and show that it is visible at the spectrum at $T<2$ K. We find that its binding energy scales like $e^{2}/l $, where $l$ is the magnetic length, and it crosses the singlet slightly above 15 T.

We study the minimal excitations of fractional quantum Hall edges, extending the notion of levitons to interacting systems. Using both perturbative and exact calculations, we show that they arise in response to a Lorentzian potential with quantized flux. They carry an integer charge, thus involving several Laughlin quasiparticles, and leave a Poissonian signature in a Hanbury-Brown and Twiss partition noise measurement at low transparency. This makes them readily accessible experimentally, ultimately offering the opportunity to study real-time transport of Abelian and non-Abelian excitations.
Using a periodic train of Lorentzian voltage pulses, which generates soliton-like electronic excitations called Levitons, we investigate the charge density backscattered off a quantum point contact in the fractional quantum Hall regime. We find a regular pattern of peaks and valleys, reminiscent of analogous self-organization recently observed for optical solitons in non-linear environments. This crystallization phenomenon is confirmed by additional side dips in the Hong-Ou-Mandel noise, a feature that can be observed in nowadays electron quantum optics experiments.
A recent mean-field approach to the fractional quantum Hall effect (QHE) is reviewed, with a special emphasis on the application to single-electron tunneling through a quantum dot in a high magnetic field. The theory is based on the adiabatic principle of Greiter and Wilczek, which maps an incompressible state in the integer QHE on the fractional QHE. The single-particle contribution to the addition spectrum is analyzed, for a quantum dot with a parabolic confining potential. The spectrum is shown to be related to the Fock-Darwin spectrum in the integer QHE, upon substitution of the electron charge by the fractional quasiparticle charge. Implications for the periodicity of the Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in the conductance are discussed.
Domain walls in fractional quantum Hall ferromagnets are gapless helical one-dimensional channels formed at the boundaries of topologically distinct quantum Hall (QH) liquids. Na{i}vely, these helical domain walls (hDWs) constitute two counter-propagating chiral states with opposite spins. Coupled to an s-wave superconductor, helical channels are expected to lead to topological superconductivity with high order non-Abelian excitations. Here we investigate transport properties of hDWs in the $ u=2/3$ fractional QH regime. Experimentally we found that current carried by hDWs is substantially smaller than the prediction of the na{i}ve model. Luttinger liquid theory of the system reveals redistribution of currents between quasiparticle charge, spin and neutral modes, and predicts the reduction of the hDW current. Inclusion of spin-non-conserving tunneling processes reconciles theory with experiment. The theory confirms emergence of spin modes required for the formation of fractional topological superconductivity.
We report inelastic light scattering experiments in the fractional quantum Hall regime at filling factors $ ulesssim1/3$. A spin mode is observed below the Zeeman energy. The filling factor dependence of the mode energy is consistent with its assignment to spin flip excitations of composite fermions with four attached flux quanta ($phi$=4). Our findings reveal a composite fermion Landau level structure in the $phi$=4 sequence.
