We present a multiwavelength study of the ultra compact HII region associated with IRAS 20178+4046. This enables us to probe the different components associated with this massive star forming region. The radio emission from the ionized gas was mapped at 610 and 1280 MHz using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT), India. We have used 2MASS $J H K_{s}$ data to study the nature of the embedded sources associated with IRAS 20178+4046. Submillimetre emission from the cold dust at 450 and 850 $mu$m was studied using JCMT-SCUBA. The high-resolution radio continuum maps at 610 and 1280 MHz display compact spherical morphology. The spectral type of the exciting source is estimated to be $sim$ B0.5 from the radio flux densities. However, the near-infrared (NIR) data suggest the presence of several massive stars (spectral type earlier than O9) within the compact ionized region. Submillimetre emission shows the presence of two dense cloud cores which are probably at different evolutionary stages. The total mass of the cloud is estimated to be $sim$ 700 -- 1500 $rm M_{odot}$ from the submillimetre emission at 450 and 850 $mu$m. The multiwavelength study of this star forming complex reveals an interesting scenario where we see the presence of different evolutionary stages in star formation. The ultra compact HII region coinciding with the southern cloud core is at a later stage of evolution compared to the northern core which is likely to be a candidate protocluster.

We present the observational results of Galactic HII region S294, using optical photometry, narrow-band imaging and radio continuum mapping at 1280 MHz, together with archival data from 2MASS, MSX and IRAS surveys. The stellar surface density profile indicates that the radius of the cluster associated with the S294 region is ~ 2.3 arcmin. We found an anomalous reddening law for the dust inside the cluster region and the ratio of total-to-selective extinction is found to be 3.8+-0.1. We estimate the minimum reddening E (B-V) = 1.35 mag and distance of 4.8+-0.2 kpc to the region from optical CC and CM diagrams. We identified the ionizing source of the HII region, and spectral type estimates are consistent with a star of spectral type ~ B0 V. The 2MASS JHKs images reveal a partially embedded cluster associated with the ionizing source along with a small cluster towards the eastern border of S294. The ionization front seen along the direction of small cluster in radio continuum and Halpha images, might be due to the interaction of ionizing sources with the nearby molecular cloud. We found an arc shaped diffuse molecular hydrogen emission at 2.12 micron and a half ring of MSX dust emission which surrounds the ionized gas in the direction of the ionization front. Self consistent radiative transfer model of mid- to far-infrared continuum emission detected near small cluster is in good agreement with the observed spectral energy distribution of a B1.5 ZAMS star. The morphological correlation between the ionised and molecular gas, along with probable time scale involved between the ionising star, evolution of HII region and small cluster, indicates that the star-formation activity observed at the border is probably triggered by the expansion of HII region.

We present a multiwavelength study of the massive star forming region associated with IRAS 06055+2039 which reveals an interesting scenario of this complex where regions are at different stages of evolution of star formation. Narrow band near-infrared (NIR) observations were carried out with UKIRT-UFTI in molecular hydrogen and Br$gamma$ lines to trace the shocked and ionized gases respectively. We have used 2MASS $J H K_{s}$ data to study the nature of the embedded cluster associated with IRAS 06055+2039. We obtain a power-law slope of 0.43$pm$0.09 for the $K_{s}$-band Luminosity Function (KLF) which is in good agreement with other young embedded clusters. We estimate an age of 2 -- 3 Myr for this cluster. The radio emission from the ionized gas has been mapped at 610 and 1280 MHz using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT), India. Apart from the diffuse emission, the high resolution 1280 MHz map also shows the presence of several discrete sources which possibly represent high density clumps. The morphology of shocked molecular hydrogen forms an arc towards the N-E of the central IRAS point source and envelopes the radio emission. Submillimetre emission using JCMT-SCUBA show the presence of a dense cloud core which is probably at an earlier evolutionary stage compared to the ionized region with shocked molecular gas lying in between the two. Emission from warm dust and the Unidentified Infrared Bands (UIBs) have been estimated using the mid-infrared (8 -- 21 $mu$m) data from the MSX survey. From the submillimetre emission at 450 and 850 $mu$m the total mass of the cloud is estimated to be $sim$ 7000 -- 9000 $rm M_{odot}$.
We present the first subarcsecond submillimeter images of the enigmatic ultracompact HII region (UCHII) G5.89-0.39. Observed with the SMA, the 875 micron continuum emission exhibits a shell-like morphology similar to longer wavelengths. By using images with comparable angular resolution at five frequencies obtained from the VLA archive and CARMA, we have removed the free-free component from the 875 micron image. We find five sources of dust emission: two compact warm objects (SMA1 and SMA2) along the periphery of the shell, and three additional regions further out. There is no dust emission inside the shell, supporting the picture of a dust-free cavity surrounded by high density gas. At subarcsecond resolution, most of the molecular gas tracers encircle the UCHII region and appear to constrain its expansion. We also find G5.89-0.39 to be almost completely lacking in organic molecular line emission. The dust cores SMA1 and SMA2 exhibit compact spatial peaks in optically-thin gas tracers (e.g. 34SO2), while SMA1 also coincides with 11.9 micron emission. In CO(3-2), we find a high-velocity north/south bipolar outflow centered on SMA1, aligned with infrared H2 knots, and responsible for much of the maser activity. We conclude that SMA1 is an embedded intermediate mass protostar with an estimated luminosity of 3000 Lsun and a circumstellar mass of ~1 Msun. Finally, we have discovered an NH3 (3,3) maser 12 arcsec northwest of the UCHII region, coincident with a 44 GHz CH3OH maser, and possibly associated with the Br gamma outflow source identified by Puga et al. (2006).

(ABRIDGED) We present an analysis of NGC588 based on IFS data with PMAS, together with Spitzer images at 8 mi and 24 mi. The extinction distribution in the optical shows complex structure, with maxima correlating in position with those of the emission at 24 mi and 8 mi. The Ha luminosity absorbed by the dust within the GHIIR reproduces the structure observed in the 24 mi image, supporting the use of this band as a tracer of recent star formation. A velocity difference of ~50 km/s was measured between the areas of high and low surface brightness, which would be expected if NGC588 were an evolved GHIIR. Line ratios used in the BPT diagnostic diagrams show a larger range of variation in the low surface brightness areas. The ranges are ~0.5 to 1.2 dex for [NII]/Ha, 0.7 to 1.7 dex for [SII]/Ha, and 0.3 to 0.5 dex for [OIII]/Hb. Ratios corresponding to large ionization parameter (U) are found between the peak of the emission in Hb and the main ionizing source decreasing radially outwards within the region. Differences between the integrated and local values of the U tracers can be as high as ~0.8 dex. [OII]/Hb and [OIII]/[OII] yield similar local values for U and consistent with those expected from the integrated spectrum of an HII region ionized by a single star. The ratio [SII]/Ha departs significantly from the range predicted by this scenario, indicating the complex ionization structure in GHIIRs. There is a significant scatter in derivations of Z using strong line tracers as a function of position, caused by variations in the degree of ionization. The scatter is smaller for N2O3 which points to this tracer as a better Z tracer than N2. The comparison between integrated and local line ratio values indicates that measurements of the line ratios of GHIIR in galaxies at distances >~25 Mpc may be dominated by the ionization conditions in their low surface brightness areas.

Using the Very Large Array (VLA) at 3.6~cm we identify four new compact radio sources in the vicinity of the cometary HII region G78.4+2.6 (VLA~1). The four compact radio sources (named VLA~2 to VLA~5), have near-infrared counterparts, as seen in the 3.6 $mu$m Spitzer image. One of them (VLA~5) clearly shows evidence of radio variability in a timescale of hours. We explore the possibility that these radio sources are associated with pre-main sequence (PMS) stars in the vicinity of the UC HII region G78.4+2.6. Our results favor the smaller distance value of 1.7 kpc for G78.4+2.6. In addition to the detection of the radio sources in the vicinity of G78.4+2.6, we detected another group of five sources which appear located about 3 to the northwest of the HII region. Some of them exhibit extended emission.
