We report on neutral hydrogen observations of a ~ 5.5 x 5.5 degree field around the NGC 1566 galaxy group with the multibeam narrow-band system on the 64-m Parkes telescope. We detected thirteen HI sources in the field, including two galaxies not previously known to be members of the group, bringing the total number of confirmed galaxies in this group to 26. Each of the HI galaxies can be associated with an optically catalogued galaxy. No intergalactic HI clouds were found to an HI mass limit of ~ 3.5 x 10^8 Msun. We have estimated the expected HI content of the late-type galaxies in this group and find the total detected HI is consistent with our expectations. However, while no global HI deficiency is inferred for this group, two galaxies exhibit individual HI deficiencies. Further observations are needed to determine the gas removal mechanisms in these galaxies.

This paper reports on the atomic hydrogen gas (HI) observations of the spiral galaxy NGC 1566 using the newly commissioned Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) radio telescope. We measure an integrated HI flux density of $180.2$ Jy km s$^{-1}$ emanating from this galaxy, which translates to an HI mass of $1.94times10^{10}$M$_circ$ at an assumed distance of $21.3$ Mpc. Our observations show that NGC 1566 has an asymmetric and mildly warped HI disc. The HI-to-stellar mass fraction of NGC 1566 is $0.29$, which is high in comparison with galaxies that have the same stellar mass ($10^{10.8}$M$_circ$). We also derive the rotation curve of this galaxy to a radius of $50$ kpc and fit different mass models to it. The NFW, Burkert and pseudo-isothermal dark matter halo profiles fit the observed rotation curve reasonably well and recover dark matter fractions of $0.62$, $0.58$ and $0.66$, respectively. Down to the column density sensitivity of our observations ($N_{HI} = 3.7times10^{19}$ cm$^{-2}$), we detect no HI clouds connected to, or in the nearby vicinity of, the HI disc of NGC 1566 nor nearby interacting systems. We conclude that, based on a simple analytic model, ram pressure interactions with the IGM can affect the HI disc of NGC 1566 and is possibly the reason for the asymmetries seen in the HI morphology of NGC 1566.
We present the results of ATCA HI line and 20-cm radio continuum observations of the galaxy Quartet NGC 6845. The HI emission extends over all four galaxies but can only be associated clearly with the two spiral galaxies, NGC 6845A and B, which show signs of strong tidal interaction. We derive a total HI mass of at least 1.8 x 10^10 Msun, most of which is associated with NGC 6845A, the largest galaxy of the group. We investigate the tidal interaction between NGC 6845A and B by studying the kinematics of distinct HI components and their relation to the known HII regions. No HI emission is detected from the two lenticular galaxies, NGC 6845C and D. A previously uncatalogued dwarf galaxy, ATCA J2001-4659, was detected 4.4 NE from NGC 6845B and has an HI mass of about 5 x 10^8 Msun. No HI bridge is visible between the group and its newly detected companion. Extended 20-cm radio continuum emission is detected in NGC 6845A and B as well as in the tidal bridge between the two galaxies. We derive star formation rates of 15 to 40 Msun/yr.
Using Magellan/IMACS images covering a 1.2 x 1.2 sq. degree FOV with seeing of 0.4-0.6, we have applied convolution techniques to analyse the light distribution of 364 confirmed globular cluster in the field of NGC 5128 and to obtain their structural parameters. Combining these parameters with existing Washington photometry from Harris et al. (2004), we are able to examine the size difference between metal-poor (blue) and metal-rich (red) globular clusters. For the first time, this can be addressed on a sample of confirmed clusters that extends to galactocentric distances about 8 times the effective radius, R$_{eff}$, of the galaxy. Within 1 R$_{eff}$, red clusters are about 30% smaller on average than blue clusters, in agreement with the vast majority of extragalactic globular cluster systems studied. As the galactocentric distance increases, however, this difference becomes negligible. Thus, our results indicate that the difference in the clusters effective radii, r$_e$, could be explained purely by projection effects, with red clusters being more centrally concentrated than blue ones and an intrinsic r$_e$--R$_{gc}$ dependence, like the one observed for the Galaxy.

We report on preliminary results from a new deep 21-cm survey of the Andromeda galaxy, based on observations performed with the Synthesis Telescope and the 26-m antenna at DRAO. The HI distribution and kinematics of the disc are analyzed and basic dynamical properties are derived. New HI structures are discovered, like thin HI spur-like structures and an external arm in the disc outskirts. The HI spurs are related to perturbed stellar clumps outside the main disc of M31. The external arm lies on the far, receding side of the galaxy and has no obvious counterpart in the opposite side. These HI perturbations probably result from tidal interactions with companions. It is found a dynamical mass of 4.7 +/- 0.5 x10^11 Msol enclosed within a radius R = 38 kpc and a total mass of ~1 x10^12 Msol inside the virial radius.

A mosaic of six HI line observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array is used to search for intergalactic gas in the NGC 1808 group of galaxies. Within the field of view of about 1.4 deg x 1.2 deg, no emission from intergalactic HI gas is detected, either in the form of tidal plumes or tails, intergalactic HI clouds, or as gas associated with tidal dwarf galaxies, with a 5-sigma limiting sensitivity of about 3x10^{18} cm^{-2} (or 1.4x10^7 M_sun at a distance of 10.9 Mpc, for the given beam size of 127.9 x 77.3). The HI data of NGC 1792 and NGC 1808, with a velocity resolution of 6.6 km/s, confirm the results of earlier VLA observations. Simultaneous wide-band 1.34 GHz continuum observations also corroborate the results of earlier studies. However, the continuum flux of NGC 1808 measured by us is almost 20% higher than reported previously. No radio continuum emission was detected from the type Ia supernova SN1993af in the north-eastern spiral arm of NGC 1808. A comparison of NGC 1792 and NGC 1808 shows that it is not primarily the total energy input that makes the big difference between the starburst-related outflow in NGC 1808 and the absence of such extraplanar features in NGC 1792, but the area over which the energy released by stellar winds and supernovae is injected into the ISM.
