The purpose of this paper is to derive the on and off-axes magnetic field of a solenoid with the use of a novel method. We have found a solution for the Biot-Savart law by considering the solenoid with a stationary electric current. The results have been compared to numerical simulations showing a good agreement.
We comment on a recent paper regarding the derivation of the magnetic field components of a solenoid in analytical form by proposing a different and simpler method
In this paper we consider the Virtual Element discretization of a minimal surface problem, a quasi-linear elliptic partial differential equation modeling the problem of minimizing the area of a surface subject to a prescribed boundary condition. We derive optimal error estimate and present several numerical tests assessing the validity of the theoretical results.
We propose a photon echo quantum memory scheme using detuned Raman coupling to long lived ground states. In contrast to previous 3-level schemes based on controlled reversible inhomogeneous broadening that use sequences of $pi$-pulses, the scheme does not require accurate control of the coupling dynamics to the ground states. We present a proof of principle experimental realization of our proposal using rubidium atoms in a warm vapour cell. The Raman resonance line is broadened using a magnetic field that varies linearly along the direction of light propagation. Inverting the magnetic field gradient rephases the atomic dipoles and re-emits the light pulse in the forward direction.
What gravitational field is generated by a massive quantum system in a spatial superposition? Despite decades of intensive theoretical and experimental research, we still do not know the answer. On the experimental side, the difficulty lies in the fact that gravity is weak and requires large masses to be detectable. However, it becomes increasingly difficult to generate spatial quantum superpositions for increasingly large masses, in light of the stronger environmental effects on such systems. Clearly, a delicate balance between the need for strong gravitational effects and weak decoherence should be found. We show that such a trade off could be achieved in an optomechanics scenario that allows to determine whether the gravitational field generated by a quantum system in a spatial superposition is in a coherent superposition or not. We estimate the magnitude of the effect and show that it offers perspectives for observability.
By improving the trace finite element method, we developed another higher-order trace finite element method by integrating on the surface with exact geometry description. This method restricts the finite element space on the volume mesh to the surface accurately, and approximates Laplace-Beltrami operator on the surface by calculating the high-order numerical integration on the exact surface directly. We employ this method to calculate the Laplace-Beltrami equation and the Laplace-Beltrami eigenvalue problem. Numerical error analysis shows that this method has an optimal convergence order in both problems. Numerical experiments verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis. The algorithm is more accurate and easier to implement than the existing high-order trace finite element method.
