We investigate the collapsing geometry of hyperkaehler 4-manifolds. As applications we prove two well-known conjectures in the field. (1) Any collapsed limit of unit-diameter hyperkaehler metrics on the K3 manifold is isometric to one of the following: the quotient of a flat 3-torus by an involution, a singular special Kaehler metric on the 2-sphere, or the unit interval. (2) Any complete hyperkaehler 4-manifold with finite energy (i.e., gravitational instanton) is asymptotic to a model end at infinity.
We study directed, weighted graphs $G=(V,E)$ and consider the (not necessarily symmetric) averaging operator $$ (mathcal{L}u)(i) = -sum_{j sim_{} i}{p_{ij} (u(j) - u(i))},$$ where $p_{ij}$ are normalized edge weights. Given a vertex $i in V$, we define the diffusion distance to a set $B subset V$ as the smallest number of steps $d_{B}(i) in mathbb{N}$ required for half of all random walks started in $i$ and moving randomly with respect to the weights $p_{ij}$ to visit $B$ within $d_{B}(i)$ steps. Our main result is that the eigenfunctions interact nicely with this notion of distance. In particular, if $u$ satisfies $mathcal{L}u = lambda u$ on $V$ and $$ B = left{ i in V: - varepsilon leq u(i) leq varepsilon right} eq emptyset,$$ then, for all $i in V$, $$ d_{B}(i) log{left( frac{1}{|1-lambda|} right) } geq log{left( frac{ |u(i)| }{|u|_{L^{infty}}} right)} - log{left(frac{1}{2} + varepsilonright)}.$$ $d_B(i)$ is a remarkably good approximation of $|u|$ in the sense of having very high correlation. The result implies that the classical one-dimensional spectral embedding preserves particular aspects of geometry in the presence of clustered data. We also give a continuous variant of the result which has a connection to the hot spots conjecture.
We establish the theory of Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on symplectic manifolds of bounded geometry. The quantum space of this quantization is the spectral subspace of the renormalized Bochner Laplacian associated with some interval near zero. We show that this quantization has the correct semiclassical limit.
Let $mathcal{K}(n, V)$ be the set of $n$-dimensional compact Kahler-Einstein manifolds $(X, g)$ satisfying $Ric(g)= - g$ with volume bounded above by $V$. We prove that after passing to a subsequence, any sequence ${ (X_j, g_j)}_{j=1}^infty$ in $mathcal{K}(n, V)$ converges, in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff topology, to a finite union of complete Kahler-Einstein metric spaces without loss of volume. The convergence is smooth off a closed singular set of Hausdorff dimension no greater than $2n-4$, and the limiting metric space is biholomorphic to an $n$-dimensional semi-log canonical model with its non log terminal locus of complex dimension no greater than $n-1$ removed. We also show that the Weil-Petersson metric extends uniquely to a Kahler current with bounded local potentials on the KSBA compactification of the moduli space of canonically polarized manifolds. In particular, the coarse KSBA moduli space has finite volume with respect to the Weil-Petersson metric. Our results are a high dimensional generalization of the well known compactness results for hyperbolic metrics on compact Riemann surfaces of fixed genus greater than one.
We study the Bochner-Schrodinger operator $H_{p}=frac 1pDelta^{L^potimes E}+V$ on high tensor powers of a positive line bundle $L$ on a symplectic manifold of bounded geometry. First, we give a rough asymptotic description of its spectrum in terms of the spectra of the model operators. This allows us to prove the existence of gaps in the spectrum under some conditions on the curvature of the line bundle. Then we consider the spectral projection of such an operator corresponding to an interval whose extreme points are not in the spectrum and study asymptotic behavior of its kernel. First, we establish the off-diagonal exponential estimate. Then we state a complete asymptotic expansion in a fixed neighborhood of the diagonal.
We prove a uniform diameter bound for long time solutions of the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow on an $n$-dimensional projective manifold $X$ with semi-ample canonical bundle under the assumption that the Ricci curvature is uniformly bounded for all time in a fixed domain containing a fibre of $X$ over its canonical model $X_{can}$. This assumption on the Ricci curvature always holds when the Kodaira dimension of $X$ is $n$, $n-1$ or when the general fibre of $X$ over its canonical model is a complex torus. In particular, the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow converges in Gromov-Hausdorff topolopy to its canonical model when $X$ has Kodaira dimension $1$ with $K_X$ being semi-ample and the general fibre of $X$ over its canonical model being a complex torus. We also prove the Gromov-Hausdorff limit of collapsing Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a holomorphically fibred Calabi-Yau manifold is unique and is homeomorphic to the metric completion of the corresponding twisted Kahler-Einstein metric on the regular part of its base.
