We study biharmonic hypersurfaces and biharmonic submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold. One of interesting problems in this direction is Chens conjecture which says that any biharmonic submanifold in a Euclidean space is minimal. From the invariant equation for biharmonic submanifolds, we derive a fundamental identity involving the mean curvature vector field, and using this, we prove Chens conjecture on biharmonic submanifolds in a Euclidean space. More generally, it is proved that any biharmonic submanifold in a space form of nonpositively sectional curvature is minimal. Furthermore we provide affirmative partial answers to the generalized Chens conjecture and Balmuc{s}-Montaldo-Oniciuc conjecture.

In this paper, we derived biharmonic equations for pseudo-Riemannian submanifolds of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds which includes the biharmonic equations for submanifolds of Riemannian manifolds as a special case. As applications, we proved that a pseudo-umbilical biharmonic pseudo-Riemannian submanifold of a pseudo-Riemannian manifold has constant mean curvature, we completed the classifications of biharmonic pseudo-Riemannian hypersurfaces with at most two distinct principal curvatures, which were used to give four construction methods to produce proper biharmonic pseudo-Riemannian submanifolds from minimal submanifolds. We also made some comparison study between biharmonic hypersurfaces of Riemannian space forms and the space-like biharmonic hypersurfaces of pseudo-Riemannian space forms.
In this paper, we study biharmonic Riemannian submersions. We first derive bitension field of a general Riemannian submersion, we then use it to obtain biharmonic equations for Riemannian submersions with $1$-dimensional fibers and Riemannian submersions with basic mean curvature vector fields of fibers. These are used to construct examples of proper biharmonic Riemannian submersions with $1$-dimensional fibers and to characterize warped products whose projections onto the first factor are biharmonic Riemannian submersions.

We continue our study [Ou4] of f-biharmonic maps and f-biharmonic submanifolds by exploring the applications of f-biharmonic maps and the relationships among biharmonicity, f-biharmonicity and conformality of maps between Riemannian manifolds. We are able to characterize harmonic maps and minimal submanifolds by using the concept of f-biharmonic maps and prove that the set of all f-biharmonic maps from 2-dimensional domain is invariant under the conformal change of the metric on the domain. We give an improved equation for f-biharmonic hypersurfaces and use it to prove some rigidity theorems about f-biharmonic hypersurfaces in nonpositively curved manifolds, and to give some classifications of f-biharmonic hypersurfaces in Einstein spaces and in space forms. Finally, we also use the improved f-biharmonic hypersurface equation to obtain an improved equation and some classifications of biharmonic conformal immersions of surfaces into a 3-manifold.

A {em 2-Riemannian manifold} is a differentiable manifold exhibiting a 2-inner product on each tangent space. We first study lower dimensional 2-Riemannian manifolds by giving necessary and sufficient conditions for flatness. Afterward we associate to each 2-Riemannian manifold a unique torsion free compatible pseudoconnection. Using it we define a curvature for 2-Riemannian manifolds and study its properties. We also prove that 2-Riemannian pseudoconnections do not have Koszul derivatives. Moreover, we define stationary vector field with respect to a 2-Riemannian metric and prove that the stationary vector fields in $mathbb{R}^2$ with respect to the 2-Riemannian metric induced by the Euclidean product are the divergence free ones.

Flag manifolds are in general not symmetric spaces. But they are provided with a structure of $mathbb{Z}_2^k$-symmetric space. We describe the Riemannian metrics adapted to this structure and some properties of reducibility. We detail for the flag manifold $SO(5)/SO(2)times SO(2) times SO(1)$ what are the conditions for a metric adapted to the $mathbb{Z}_2^2$-symmetric structure to be naturally reductive.
