The scenario of an uplink two-user non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) communication system is analytically studied when it operates in the short packet transmission regime. The considered users support mobility and each is equipped with a single antenna, while they directly communicate with a multi-antenna base station. Power-domain NOMA is adopted for the signal transmission as well as the successive interference cancellation approach is performed at the receiver for decoding. The packet error rate (PER) is obtained in simple closed formulae under independent Rayleigh faded channels and for arbitrary user mobility profiles. The practical time variation and correlation of the channels is also considered. Moreover, useful engineering insights are manifested in short transmission time intervals, which define a suitable setup for the forthcoming ultra-reliable and low latency communication systems. Finally, it turns out that the optimal NOMA power allocation can be computed in a straightforward cost-effective basis, capitalizing on the derived PER expressions.

In this paper, we investigate a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based mobile edge computing (MEC) network, in which two users may partially offload their respective tasks to a single MEC server through uplink NOMA. We propose a new offloading scheme that can operate in three different modes, namely the partial computation offloading, the complete local computation, and the complete offloading. We further derive a closed-form expression of the successful computation probability for the proposed scheme. As part of the proposed offloading scheme, we formulate a problem to maximize the successful computation probability by jointly optimizing the time for offloading, the power allocation of the two users and the offloading ratios which decide how many tasks should be offloaded to the MEC server. We obtain the optimal solutions in the closed forms. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme can achieve the highest successful computation probability than the existing schemes.
In this paper, energy efficient resource allocation is considered for an uplink hybrid system, where non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is integrated into orthogonal multiple access (OMA). To ensure the quality of service for the users, a minimum rate requirement is pre-defined for each user. We formulate an energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem by jointly optimizing the user clustering, channel assignment and power allocation. To address this hard problem, a many-to-one bipartite graph is first constructed considering the users and resource blocks (RBs) as the two sets of nodes. Based on swap matching, a joint user-RB association and power allocation scheme is proposed, which converges within a limited number of iterations. Moreover, for the power allocation under a given user-RB association, we first derive the feasibility condition. If feasible, a low-complexity algorithm is proposed, which obtains optimal EE under any successive interference cancellation (SIC) order and an arbitrary number of users. In addition, for the special case of two users per cluster, analytical solutions are provided for the two SIC orders, respectively. These solutions shed light on how the power is allocated for each user to maximize the EE. Numerical results are presented, which show that the proposed joint user-RB association and power allocation algorithm outperforms other hybrid multiple access based and OMA-based schemes.
We investigate a coded uplink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) configuration in which groups of co-channel users are modulated in accordance with orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS). We take advantage of OTFS characteristics to achieve NOMA spectrum sharing in the delay-Doppler domain between stationary and mobile users. We develop an efficient iterative turbo receiver based on the principle of successive interference cancellation (SIC) to overcome the co-channel interference (CCI). We propose two turbo detector algorithms: orthogonal approximate message passing with linear minimum mean squared error (OAMP-LMMSE) and Gaussian approximate message passing with expectation propagation (GAMP-EP). The interactive OAMP-LMMSE detector and GAMP-EP detector are respectively assigned for the reception of the stationary and mobile users. We analyze the convergence performance of our proposed iterative SIC turbo receiver by utilizing a customized extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart and simplify the corresponding detector algorithms to further reduce receiver complexity. Our proposed iterative SIC turbo receiver demonstrates performance improvement over existing receivers and robustness against imperfect SIC process and channel state information uncertainty.
Multiple-input multiple-output non-orthogonal multiple access (MIMO-NOMA) cellular network is promising for supporting massive connectivity. This paper exploits low-latency machine learning in the MIMO-NOMA uplink transmission environment, where a substantial amount of data must be uploaded from multiple data sources to a one-hop away edge server for machine learning. A delay-aware edge learning framework with the collaboration of data sources, the edge server, and the base station, referred to as DACEL, is proposed. Based on the delay analysis of DACEL, a NOMA channel allocation algorithm is further designed to minimize the learning delay. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the baseline schemes in terms of learning delay reduction.
Conventional power-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) relies on precise power control, which requires real-time channel state information at transmitters. This requirement severely limits its application to future wireless communication systems. To address this problem, we consider NOMA without power allocation, where we exploit the random channel fading and opportunistically perform successive interference cancellation (SIC) detection. To mitigate the multi-user interference, we propose a random NOMA where users randomly transmit their data packets with a certain probability. Then a cross-slot SIC packet recovery scheme is proposed to recover transmitted data packets. We model the cross-slot SIC packet recovery as a Markov process, and provide a throughput analysis, based on which the sum rate is maximized by jointly optimizing the transmission probability and the encoding rate of users.
