Age Control Protocol (ACP) and its enhanced version, ACP+, are recently proposed transport layer protocols to control Age of Information of data flows. This study presents an experimental evaluation of ACP and ACP+ on the ESP32 microcontroller, a currently popular IoT device. We identify several issues related to the implementation of these protocols on this platform and in general on short-haul, low-delay connections. We propose solutions to overcome these issues in the form of simple modifications to ACP+, and compare the performance of the resulting modified ACP+ with that of the original protocols on a small-delay local wireless IoT connection.

A common problem in the task of human-object interaction (HOI) detection is that numerous HOI classes have only a small number of labeled examples, resulting in training sets with a long-tailed distribution. The lack of positive labels can lead to low classification accuracy for these classes. Towards addressing this issue, we observe that there exist natural correlations and anti-correlations among human-object interactions. In this paper, we model the correlations as action co-occurrence matrices and present techniques to learn these priors and leverage them for more effective training, especially on rare classes. The efficacy of our approach is demonstrated experimentally, where the performance of our approach consistently improves over the state-of-the-art methods on both of the two leading HOI detection benchmark datasets, HICO-Det and V-COCO.
As the convolutional neural network (CNN) gets deeper and wider in recent years, the requirements for the amount of data and hardware resources have gradually increased. Meanwhile, CNN also reveals salient redundancy in several tasks. The existing magnitude-based pruning methods are efficient, but the performance of the compressed network is unpredictable. While the accuracy loss after pruning based on the structure sensitivity is relatively slight, the process is time-consuming and the algorithm complexity is notable. In this article, we propose a novel automatic channel pruning method (ACP). Specifically, we firstly perform layer-wise channel clustering via the similarity of the feature maps to perform preliminary pruning on the network. Then a population initialization method is introduced to transform the pruned structure into a candidate population. Finally, we conduct searching and optimizing iteratively based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) to find the optimal compressed structure. The compact network is then retrained to mitigate the accuracy loss from pruning. Our method is evaluated against several state-of-the-art CNNs on three different classification datasets CIFAR-10/100 and ILSVRC-2012. On the ILSVRC-2012, when removing 64.36% parameters and 63.34% floating-point operations (FLOPs) of ResNet-50, the Top-1 and Top-5 accuracy drop are less than 0.9%. Moreover, we demonstrate that without harming overall performance it is possible to compress SSD by more than 50% on the target detection dataset PASCAL VOC. It further verifies that the proposed method can also be applied to other CNNs and application scenarios.
Information dissemination applications (video, news, social media, etc.) with large number of receivers need to be efficient but also have limited loss tolerance. The new Information-Centric Networks (ICN) paradigm offers an alternative approach for reliably delivering data by naming content and exploiting data available at any intermediate point (e.g., caches). However, receivers are often heterogeneous, with widely varying receive rates. When using existing ICN congestion control mechanisms with in-sequence delivery, a particularly thorny problem of receivers going out-of-sync results in inefficiency and unfairness with heterogeneous receivers. We argue that separating reliability from congestion control leads to more scalable, efficient and fair data dissemination, and propose SAID, a Control Protocol for Scalable and Adaptive Information Dissemination in ICN. To maximize the amount of data transmitted at the first attempt, receivers request any next packet (ANP) of a flow instead of next-in-sequence packet, independent of the providers transmit rate. This allows providers to transmit at an application-efficient rate, without being limited by the slower receivers. SAID ensures reliable delivery to all receivers eventually, by cooperative repair, while preserving privacy without unduly trusting other receivers.
For decades, Internet protocols have been specified using natural language. Given the ambiguity inherent in such text, it is not surprising that protocol implementations have long exhibited bugs. In this paper, we apply natural language processing (NLP) to effect semi-automated generation of protocol implementations from specification text. Our system, SAGE, can uncover ambiguous or under-specified sentences in specifications; once these are clarified by the spec author, SAGE can generate protocol code automatically. Using SAGE, we discover 5 instances of ambiguity and 6 instances of under-specification in the ICMP RFC; after clarification, SAGE is able to automatically generate code that interoperates perfectly with Linux implementations. We show that SAGE generalizes to BFD, IGMP, and NTP. We also find that SAGE supports many of the conceptual components found in key protocols, suggesting that, with some additional machinery, SAGE may be able to generalize to TCP and BGP.
This document describes the core concepts of the CCNx architecture and presents a minimum network protocol based on two messages: Interests and Content Objects. It specifies the set of mandatory and optional fields within those messages and describes their behavior and interpretation. This architecture and protocol specification is independent of a specific wire encoding.
