Medical Dialogue Generation (MDG) is intended to build a medical dialogue system for intelligent consultation, which can communicate with patients in real-time, thereby improving the efficiency of clinical diagnosis with broad application prospects. This paper presents our proposed framework for the Chinese MDG organized by the 2021 China conference on knowledge graph and semantic computing (CCKS) competition, which requires generating context-consistent and medically meaningful responses conditioned on the dialogue history. In our framework, we propose a pipeline system composed of entity prediction and entity-aware dialogue generation, by adding predicted entities to the dialogue model with a fusion mechanism, thereby utilizing information from different sources. At the decoding stage, we propose a new decoding mechanism named Entity-revised Diverse Beam Search (EDBS) to improve entity correctness and promote the length and quality of the final response. The proposed method wins both the CCKS and the International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR) 2021 Workshop Machine Learning for Preventing and Combating Pandemics (MLPCP) Track 1 Entity-aware MED competitions, which demonstrate the practicality and effectiveness of our method.

Entity linking (or Normalization) is an essential task in text mining that maps the entity mentions in the medical text to standard entities in a given Knowledge Base (KB). This task is of great importance in the medical domain. It can also be used for merging different medical and clinical ontologies. In this paper, we center around the problem of disease linking or normalization. This task is executed in two phases: candidate generation and candidate scoring. In this paper, we present an approach to rank the candidate Knowledge Base entries based on their similarity with disease mention. We make use of the Triplet Network for candidate ranking. While the existing methods have used carefully generated sieves and external resources for candidate generation, we introduce a robust and portable candidate generation scheme that does not make use of the hand-crafted rules. Experimental results on the standard benchmark NCBI disease dataset demonstrate that our system outperforms the prior methods by a significant margin.

We tackle the task of question generation over knowledge bases. Conventional methods for this task neglect two crucial research issues: 1) the given predicate needs to be expressed; 2) the answer to the generated question needs to be definitive. In this paper, we strive toward the above two issues via incorporating diversified contexts and answer-aware loss. Specifically, we propose a neural encoder-decoder model with multi-level copy mechanisms to generate such questions. Furthermore, the answer aware loss is introduced to make generated questions corresponding to more definitive answers. Experiments demonstrate that our model achieves state-of-the-art performance. Meanwhile, such generated question can express the given predicate and correspond to a definitive answer.
Many existing conversation models that are based on the encoder-decoder framework have focused on ways to make the encoder more complicated to enrich the context vectors so as to increase the diversity and informativeness of generated responses. However, these approaches face two problems. First, the decoder is too simple to effectively utilize the previously generated information and tends to generate duplicated and self-contradicting responses. Second, the complex encoder tends to generate diverse but incoherent responses because the complex context vectors may deviate from the original semantics of context. In this work, we proposed a conversation model named THINK (Teamwork generation Hover around Impressive Noticeable Keywords) to make the decoder more complicated and avoid generating duplicated and self-contradicting responses. The model simplifies the context vectors and increases the coherence of generated responses in a reasonable way. For this model, we propose Teamwork generation framework and Semantics Extractor. Compared with other baselines, both automatic and human evaluation showed the advantages of our model.
Short textual descriptions of entities provide summaries of their key attributes and have been shown to be useful sources of background knowledge for tasks such as entity linking and question answering. However, generating entity descriptions, especially for new and long-tail entities, can be challenging since relevant information is often scattered across multiple sources with varied content and style. We introduce DESCGEN: given mentions spread over multiple documents, the goal is to generate an entity summary description. DESCGEN consists of 37K entity descriptions from Wikipedia and Fandom, each paired with nine evidence documents on average. The documents were collected using a combination of entity linking and hyperlinks to the Wikipedia and Fandom entity pages, which together provide high-quality distant supervision. The resulting summaries are more abstractive than those found in existing datasets and provide a better proxy for the challenge of describing new and emerging entities. We also propose a two-stage extract-then-generate baseline and show that there exists a large gap (19.9% in ROUGE-L) between state-of-the-art models and human performance, suggesting that the data will support significant future work.

Comment generation, a new and challenging task in Natural Language Generation (NLG), attracts a lot of attention in recent years. However, comments generated by previous work tend to lack pertinence and diversity. In this paper, we propose a novel generation model based on Topic-aware Pointer-Generator Networks (TPGN), which can utilize the topic information hidden in the articles to guide the generation of pertinent and diversified comments. Firstly, we design a keyword-level and topic-level encoder attention mechanism to capture topic information in the articles. Next, we integrate the topic information into pointer-generator networks to guide comment generation. Experiments on a large scale of comment generation dataset show that our model produces the valuable comments and outperforms competitive baseline models significantly.
