We have studied analytically the longitudinally boost-invariant motion of a relativistic dissipative fluid with spin. We have derived the analytic solutions of spin density and spin chemical potential as a function of proper time $tau$ in the presence of viscous tensor and the second order relaxation time corrections for spin. Interestingly, analogous to the ordinary particle number density and chemical potential, we find that the spin density and spin chemical potential decay as $simtau^{-1}$ and $simtau^{-1/3}$, respectively. It implies that the initial spin density may not survive at the freezeout hyper-surface. These solutions can serve both to gain insight on the dynamics of spin polarization in relativistic heavy-ion collisions and as testbeds for further numerical codes.

In the initial stage of relativistic heavy-ion collisions, strong magnetic fields appear due to the large velocity of the colliding charges. The evolution of these fields appears as a novel and intriguing feature in the fluid-dynamical description of heavy-ion collisions. In this work, we study analytically the one-dimensional, longitudinally boost-invariant motion of an ideal fluid in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. Interestingly, we find that, in the limit of ideal magnetohydrodynamics, i.e., for infinite conductivity, and irrespective of the strength of the initial magnetization, the decay of the fluid energy density $e$ with proper time $tau$ is the same as for the time-honored Bjorken flow without magnetic field. Furthermore, when the magnetic field is assumed to decay $sim tau^{-a}$, where $a$ is an arbitrary number, two classes of analytic solutions can be found depending on whether $a$ is larger or smaller than one. In summary, the analytic solutions presented here highlight that the Bjorken flow is far more general than formerly thought. These solutions can serve both to gain insight on the dynamics of heavy-ion collisions in the presence of strong magnetic fields and as testbeds for numerical codes.
A newly proposed framework of perfect-fluid relativistic hydrodynamics for particles with spin 1/2 is briefly reviewed. The hydrodynamic equations follow entirely from the conservation laws for energy, momentum, and angular momentum. The incorporation of the angular-momentum conservation requires that the spin polarization tensor is introduced. It plays a role of a Lagrange multiplier conjugated to the spin tensor. The space-time evolution of the spin polarization tensor depends on the specific form chosen for the spin tensor.
Using classical description of spin degrees of freedom, we extend recent formulation of the perfect-fluid hydrodynamics for spin-polarized fluids to the case including dissipation. Our work is based on the analysis of classical kinetic equations for massive particles with spin-1/2, with the collision terms treated in the relaxation time approximation. The kinetic-theory framework determines the structure of viscous and diffusive terms and allows to explicitly calculate a complete set of new kinetic coefficients that characterize dissipative spin dynamics.
We argue that different formulations of hydrodynamics are related to uncertainties in the definitions of local thermodynamic and hydrodynamic variables. We show that this ambiguity can be resolved by viewing different formulations of hydrodynamics as particular gauge choices which lead to the same physical behavior of the system. Using the example of bulk viscosity, we show that Bemfica-Disconzi-Noronha-Kovtun (BDNK) and Israel-Stewart hydrodynamics are particular gauge choices of this type, related by a well-defined transformation of thermodynamic and hydrodynamic variables. We argue that this gauge ambiguity is necessary to ascertain the causality of stochastic hydrodynamic evolution and conjecture that it could explain the applicability of hydrodynamics outside its expected regime of validity since far from equilibrium and close to equilibrium may be related through transformations of this type.
New, analytic solutions of relativistic viscous hydrodynamics are presented, describing expanding fireballs with Hubble-like velocity profile and ellipsoidal symmetry, similar to fireballs created in heavy ion collisions. We find that with these specifications, one obtains solutions where the shear viscosity essentially does not influence the time evolution of the system, thus these solutions are particularly adept tools to study the effect of bulk viscosity alone, which always results in a slower decrease of energy density as well as temperature compared to the case of perfect fluid. We investigate different scenarios for the bulk viscosity and find qualitatively different effects on the time evolution which suggests that there is a possibility to infer the value of bulk viscosity from energy density and temperature measurements in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.
