We analytically describe the plasmonic edge modes for an interface that involves the twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) or other similar Moire van der Waals heterostructure. For this purpose, we employ a spatially homogeneous, isotropic and frequency-dependent tensor conductivity which in principle accounts for electronic and electrostatic interlayer couplings. We predict that the edge mode dispersion relation explicitly depends on the chiral response even in the nonretarded limit, in contrast to the collective bulk plasmonic excitations in the TBG. We obtain a universal function for the dispersion of the optical edge plasmon in the paramagnetic regime. This implies a correspondence of the chiral-TBG optical plasmon to a magnetoplasmon of a single sheet, and chirality is interpreted as an effective magnetic field. The chirality also opens up the possibility of nearly undamped acoustic modes in the paramagnetic regime. Our results may guide future near-field nanoscopy for van der Waals heterostructures. In our analysis, we retain the long-range electrostatic interaction, and apply the Wiener-Hopf method to a system of integral equations for the scalar potentials of the two layers.

We study coherence and entanglement properties of the state space of a composite bi-fermion (two electrons pierced by $lambda$ magnetic flux lines) at one Landau site of a bilayer quantum Hall system. In particular, interlayer imbalance and entanglement (and its fluctuations) are analyzed for a set of $U(4)$ coherent (emph{quasiclassical}) states generalizing the standard pseudospin $U(2)$ coherent states for the spin-frozen case. The interplay between spin and pseudospin degrees of freedom opens new possibilities with regard to the spin-frozen case. Actually, spin degrees of freedom make interlayer entanglement more effective and robust under perturbations than in the spin-frozen situation, mainly for a large number of flux quanta $lambda$. Interlayer entanglement of an equilibrium thermal state and its dependence with temperature and bias voltage is also studied for a pseudo-Zeeman interaction.

Gated heterostructures containing bilayer graphene with staggered sublattice potentials are investigated by tight binding model with Rashba spin-orbital coupling and Hubbard interaction. The topological phase diagrams depend on the combinations of substrates and the Hubbard interaction. The presence of the staggered sublattice potential favor the topological phase transition with small Rashba spin-orbital coupling strength. The presence of the Hubbard interaction modified the topological phase boundaries, increasing the minimal spin-orbital coupling strength for topological phase transition. A phase space of topological semi-metal with indirect band gap is identified in the non-interacting systems. For the bilayer graphene with different staggered sublattice potentials in the two layers, the conditions for the zigzag nanoribbons to host edge polarized chiral edge states are discussed. The conditions require moderate or vanishing Rashba spin-orbital coupling strength, as well as proper range of the gate voltage. The conditions for the systems with and without the Hubbard interaction are compared. The edge polarization can be controlled by the gate voltage.
We study the low energy edge states of bilayer graphene in a strong perpendicular magnetic field. Several possible simple boundaries geometries related to zigzag edges are considered. Tight-binding calculations reveal three types of edge state behaviors: weakly, strongly, and non-dispersive edge states. These three behaviors may all be understood within a continuum model, and related by non-linear transformations to the spectra of quantum Hall edge--states in a conventional two-dimensional electron system. In all cases, the edge states closest to zero energy include a hole-like edge state of one valley and a particle-like state of the other on the same edge, which may or may not cross depending on the boundary condition. Edge states with the same spin generically have anticrossings that complicate the spectra, but which may be understood within degenerate perturbation theory. The results demonstrate that the number of edge states crossing the Fermi level in clean, undoped bilayer graphene depends BOTH on boundary conditions and the energies of the bulk states.
Skyrmions in antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction are expected to exist for essentially the same reasons as in DM ferromagnets (FM). It is shown that skyrmions in antiferromagnets with the DM interaction can be traveling as solitary waves with velocities up to a maximum value that depends on the DM parameter. Their configuration is found numerically. The energy and the linear momentum of an AFM skyrmion lead to a proper definition of its mass. We give the details of the energy-momentum dispersion of traveling skyrmions and explore their particle-like character based on exact relations. The skyrmion number, known to be linked to the dynamics of topological solitons in FM, is, here, unrelated to the dynamical behavior. As a result, the solitonic behavior of skyrmions in AFM is in stark contrast to the dynamical behavior of their FM counterparts

We present a scheme to obtain anti-chiral edge states in an exciton-polariton honeycomb lattice with strip geometry, where the modes corresponding to both edges propagate in the same direction. Under resonant pumping the effect of a polariton condensate with nonzero velocity in one linear polarization is predicted to tilt the dispersion of polaritons in the other, which results in an energy shift between two Dirac cones and the otherwise flat edge states become tilted. Our simulations show that due to the spatial separation from the bulk modes the edge modes are robust against disorder.
