3D convolution is powerful for video classification but often computationally expensive, recent studies mainly focus on decomposing it on spatial-temporal and/or channel dimensions. Unfortunately, most approaches fail to achieve a preferable balance between convolutional efficiency and feature-interaction sufficiency. For this reason, we propose a concise and novel Channel Tensorization Network (CT-Net), by treating the channel dimension of input feature as a multiplication of K sub-dimensions. On one hand, it naturally factorizes convolution in a multiple dimension way, leading to a light computation burden. On the other hand, it can effectively enhance feature interaction from different channels, and progressively enlarge the 3D receptive field of such interaction to boost classification accuracy. Furthermore, we equip our CT-Module with a Tensor Excitation (TE) mechanism. It can learn to exploit spatial, temporal and channel attention in a high-dimensional manner, to improve the cooperative power of all the feature dimensions in our CT-Module. Finally, we flexibly adapt ResNet as our CT-Net. Extensive experiments are conducted on several challenging video benchmarks, e.g., Kinetics-400, Something-Something V1 and V2. Our CT-Net outperforms a number of recent SOTA approaches, in terms of accuracy and/or efficiency. The codes and models will be available on https://github.com/Andy1621/CT-Net.
In this paper, we propose the differentiable mask-matching network (DMM-Net) for solving the video object segmentation problem where the initial object masks are provided. Relying on the Mask R-CNN backbone, we extract mask proposals per frame and formulate the matching between object templates and proposals at one time step as a linear assignment problem where the cost matrix is predicted by a CNN. We propose a differentiable matching layer by unrolling a projected gradient descent algorithm in which the projection exploits the Dykstras algorithm. We prove that under mild conditions, the matching is guaranteed to converge to the optimum. In practice, it performs similarly to the Hungarian algorithm during inference. Meanwhile, we can back-propagate through it to learn the cost matrix. After matching, a refinement head is leveraged to improve the quality of the matched mask. Our DMM-Net achieves competitive results on the largest video object segmentation dataset YouTube-VOS. On DAVIS 2017, DMM-Net achieves the best performance without online learning on the first frames. Without any fine-tuning, DMM-Net performs comparably to state-of-the-art methods on SegTrack v2 dataset. As moving objects always draw more attention of human eyes, the temporal motive information is always exploited complementarily with spatial information to detect salient objects in videos. Although efficient tools such as optical flow have been proposed to extract temporal motive information, it often encounters difficulties when used for saliency detection due to the movement of camera or the partial movement of salient objects. In this paper, we investigate the complimentary roles of spatial and temporal information and propose a novel dynamic spatiotemporal network (DS-Net) for more effective fusion of spatiotemporal information. We construct a symmetric two-bypass network to explicitly extract spatial and temporal features. A dynamic weight generator (DWG) is designed to automatically learn the reliability of corresponding saliency branch. And a top-down cross attentive aggregation (CAA) procedure is designed so as to facilitate dynamic complementary aggregation of spatiotemporal features. Finally, the features are modified by spatial attention with the guidance of coarse saliency map and then go through decoder part for final saliency map. Experimental results on five benchmarks VOS, DAVIS, FBMS, SegTrack-v2, and ViSal demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior performance than state-of-the-art algorithms. Garment transfer shows great potential in realistic applications with the goal of transfering outfits across different people images. However, garment transfer between images with heavy misalignments or severe occlusions still remains as a challenge. In this work, we propose Complementary Transfering Network (CT-Net) to adaptively model different levels of geometric changes and transfer outfits between different people. In specific, CT-Net consists of three modules: 1) A complementary warping module first estimates two complementary warpings to transfer the desired clothes in different granularities. 2) A layout prediction module is proposed to predict the target layout, which guides the preservation or generation of the body parts in the synthesized images. 3) A dynamic fusion module adaptively combines the advantages of the complementary warpings to render the garment transfer results. Extensive experiments conducted on DeepFashion dataset demonstrate that our network synthesizes high-quality garment transfer images and significantly outperforms the state-of-art methods both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Video frame interpolation can up-convert the frame rate and enhance the video quality. In recent years, although the interpolation performance has achieved great success, image blur usually occurs at the object boundaries owing to the large motion. It has been a long-standing problem, and has not been addressed yet. In this paper, we propose to reduce the image blur and get the clear shape of objects by preserving the edges in the interpolated frames. To this end, the proposed Edge-Aware Network (EA-Net) integrates the edge information into the frame interpolation task. It follows an end-to-end architecture and can be separated into two stages, emph{i.e.}, edge-guided flow estimation and edge-protected frame synthesis. Specifically, in the flow estimation stage, three edge-aware mechanisms are developed to emphasize the frame edges in estimating flow maps, so that the edge-maps are taken as the auxiliary information to provide more guidance to boost the flow accuracy. In the frame synthesis stage, the flow refinement module is designed to refine the flow map, and the attention module is carried out to adaptively focus on the bidirectional flow maps when synthesizing the intermediate frames. Furthermore, the frame and edge discriminators are adopted to conduct the adversarial training strategy, so as to enhance the reality and clarity of synthesized frames. Experiments on three benchmarks, including Vimeo90k, UCF101 for single-frame interpolation and Adobe240-fps for multi-frame interpolation, have demonstrated the superiority of the proposed EA-Net for the video frame interpolation task.
To defend against manipulation of image content, such as splicing, copy-move, and removal, we develop a Progressive Spatio-Channel Correlation Network (PSCC-Net) to detect and localize image manipulations. PSCC-Net processes the image in a two-path procedure: a top-down path that extracts local and global features and a bottom-up path that detects whether the input image is manipulated, and estimates its manipulation masks at 4 scales, where each mask is conditioned on the previous one. Different from the conventional encoder-decoder and no-pooling structures, PSCC-Net leverages features at different scales with dense cross-connections to produce manipulation masks in a coarse-to-fine fashion. Moreover, a Spatio-Channel Correlation Module (SCCM) captures both spatial and channel-wise correlations in the bottom-up path, which endows features with holistic cues, enabling the network to cope with a wide range of manipulation attacks. Thanks to the light-weight backbone and progressive mechanism, PSCC-Net can process 1,080P images at 50+ FPS. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of PSCC-Net over the state-of-the-art methods on both detection and localization.
