We study the impact of maximal zeros of the Dirac mass matrix on neutrino phenomenology and dark matter within the framework of an inverse seesaw ISS $(2,3)$. ISS $(2,3)$ is obtained by adding two right handed neutrinos and three gauge singlets sterile fermions to the standard model leading to an extra sterile state in the keV range. The model is more predictive because of the presence of fewer numbers of right handed neutrinos than the conventional inverse seesaw. Moreover, texture zeros in the structures of the mass matrices involved in the model can reduce the free parameters. We extensively study the effect of different textures of Dirac mass matrix on sterile neutrino dark matter phenomenology. Our study also includes the implications of these texture zero mass matrices on low energy phenomena like neutrinoless double beta decay (0$ ubetabeta$). The zero textures highly constrain the parameter space of the model. Based on the allowed cosmological ranges of the relic abundance, decay rates, and dark matter mixing with the active neutrinos, we study the viability of the different textures within the framework.

From the standard seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass generation, which is based on the assumption that the lepton number is violated at a large (~10exp(+15) GeV) scale, follows that the neutrinoless double-beta decay is ruled by the Majorana neutrino mass mechanism. Within this notion, for the inverted neutrino-mass hierarchy we derive allowed ranges of half-lives of the neutrinoless double-beta decay for nuclei of experimental interest with different sets of nuclear matrix elements. The present-day results of the calculation of the neutrinoless double-beta decay nuclear matrix elements are briefly discussed. We argue that if neutrinoless double-beta decay will be observed in future experiments sensitive to the effective Majorana mass in the inverted mass hierarchy region, a comparison of the derived ranges with measured half-lives will allow us to probe the standard seesaw mechanism assuming that future cosmological data will establish the sum of neutrino masses to be about 0.2 eV.
In the inverse seesaw extension of the standard model, supersymmetric or non-supersymmetric, while the light left-handed neutrinos are Majorana, the heavy right-handed neutrinos are pseudo-Dirac fermions. We show how one of these latter category of particles can contribute quite significantly to neutrinoless double beta decay. The neutrino virtuality momentum is found to play a crucial role in the non-standard contributions leading to the prediction of the pseudo-Dirac fermion mass in the range of $120, {MeV}-500, {MeV}$. When the Dirac neutrino mass matrix in the inverse seesaw formula is similar to the up-quark mass matrix, characteristic of high scale quark-lepton symmetric origin, the predicted branching ratios for lepton flavor violating decays are also found to be closer to the accessible range of ongoing experiments.

By requiring the lower limit for the lightest right-handed neutrino mass, obtained in the baryogenesis from leptogenesis scenario, and a Dirac neutrino mass matrix similar to the up-quark mass matrix we predict small values for the $ u_e$ mass and for the matrix element $m_{ee}$ responsible of the neutrinoless double beta decay, $m_{ u_e}$ around $5cdot10^{-3}$ eV and $m_{ee}$ smaller than $ 10^{-3}$ eV, respectively. The allowed range for the mass of the heaviest right-handed neutrino is centered around the value of the scale of B - L breaking in the SO(10) gauge theory with Pati-Salam intermediate symmetry.
We present a detailed discussion on neutrinoless double beta decay within a class of left-right symmetric models where neutrino mass originates by natural type-II seesaw dominance. The spontaneous symmetry breaking is implemented with doublets, triplets and bidoublet scalars. The fermion sector is extended with an extra sterile neutrino per generation that helps in implementing the seesaw mechanism. The presence of extra particles in the model exactly cancels type-I seesaw and allows large value for Dirac neutrino mass matrix $M_D$. The key feature of this work is that all the physical masses and mixing are expressed in terms of neutrino oscillation parameters and lightest neutrino mass thereby facilitating to constrain light neutrino masses from $0 ubetabeta$ decay. With this large value of $M_D$ new contributions arise due to; i) purely left-handed current via exchange of heavy right-handed neutrinos as well as sterile neutrinos, ii) the so called $lambda$ and $eta$ diagrams. New physics contributions also arise from right-handed currents with right-handed gauge boson $W_R$ mass around $3$~TeV. From the numerical study, we find that the new contributions to $0 ubetabeta$ decay not only saturate the current experimental bound but also give lower limit on absolute scale of lightest neutrino mass and favor NH pattern of light neutrino mass hierarchy.
We discuss a mechanism of neutrinoless double beta decay, where neutrinos of different flavours come into play. This is realized by effective flavour-violating scalar interactions. As one consequence, we find that within the normal mass ordering the neutrino effective mass may no longer vanish due to contributions from other flavours. We evaluate the necessary nuclear matrix elements, consider the interference between the standard diagram and the new scalar one, and analyze a UV-complete model that realizes the scalar interaction. Tests of the complete model are possible at colliders and future neutrino experiments. Our scenario represents an alternative mechanism for neutrinoless double beta decay, where nevertheless lepton number violation resides only in Majorana mass terms of light neutrinos.
