We consider the dynamic large deviation behaviour of Kacs collisional process for a range of initial conditions including equilibrium. We prove an upper bound with a rate function of the type which has previously been found for kinetic large deviation problems, and a matching lower bound restricted to a class of sufficiently good paths. However, we are able to show by an explicit counterexample that the predicted rate function does not extend to a global lower bound: even though the particle system almost surely conserves energy, large deviation behaviour includes solutions to the Boltzmann equation which do not conserve energy, as found by Lu and Wennberg, and these occur strictly more rarely than predicted by the proposed rate function. At the level of the particle system, this occurs because a macroscopic proportion of energy can concentrate in $mathfrak{o}(N)$ particles with probability $e^{-mathcal{O}(N)}$.

This paper considers the space homogenous Boltzmann equation with Maxwell molecules and arbitrary angular distribution. Following Kacs program, emphasis is laid on the the associated conservative Kacs stochastic $N$-particle system, a Markov process with binary collisions conserving energy and total momentum. An explicit Markov coupling (a probabilistic, Markovian coupling of two copies of the process) is constructed, using simultaneous collisions, and parallel coupling of each binary random collision on the sphere of collisional directions. The euclidean distance between the two coupled systems is almost surely decreasing with respect to time, and the associated quadratic coupling creation (the time variation of the averaged squared coupling distance) is computed explicitly. Then, a family (indexed by $delta > 0$) of $N$-uniform weak coupling / coupling creation inequalities are proven, that leads to a $N$-uniform power law trend to equilibrium of order ${sim}_{ t to + infty} t^{-delta} $, with constants depending on moments of the velocity distributions strictly greater than $2(1 + delta)$. The case of order $4$ moment is treated explicitly, achieving Kacs program without any chaos propagation analysis. Finally, two counter-examples are suggested indicating that the method: (i) requires the dependance on $>2$-moments, and (ii) cannot provide contractivity in quadratic Wasserstein distance in any case.
We prove the existence of nonnegative martingale solutions to a class of stochastic degenerate-parabolic fourth-order PDEs arising in surface-tension driven thin-film flow influenced by thermal noise. The construction applies to a range of mobilites including the cubic one which occurs under the assumption of a no-slip condition at the liquid-solid interface. Since their introduction more than 15 years ago, by Davidovitch, Moro, and Stone and by Grun, Mecke, and Rauscher, the existence of solutions to stochastic thin-film equations for cubic mobilities has been an open problem, even in the case of sufficiently regular noise. Our proof of global-in-time solutions relies on a careful combination of entropy and energy estimates in conjunction with a tailor-made approximation procedure to control the formation of shocks caused by the nonlinear stochastic scalar conservation law structure of the noise.

We prove the existence and uniqueness of measure solutions to the conservative renewal equation and analyze their long time behavior. The solutions are built by using a duality approach. This construction is well suited to apply the Doeblins argument which ensures the exponential relaxation of the solutions to the equilibrium.
It is known that in the parameters range $-2 leq gamma <-2s$ spectral gap does not exist for the linearized Boltzmann operator without cutoff but it does for the linearized Landau operator. This paper is devoted to the understanding of the formation of spectral gap in this range through the grazing limit. Precisely, we study the Cauchy problems of these two classical collisional kinetic equations around global Maxwellians in torus and establish the following results that are uniform in the vanishing grazing parameter $epsilon$: (i) spectral gap type estimates for the collision operators; (ii) global existence of small-amplitude solutions for initial data with low regularity; (iii) propagation of regularity in both space and velocity variables as well as velocity moments without smallness; (iv) global-in-time asymptotics of the Boltzmann solution toward the Landau solution at the rate $O(epsilon)$; (v) continuous transition of decay structure of the Boltzmann operator to the Landau operator. In particular, the result in part (v) captures the uniform-in-$epsilon$ transition of intrinsic optimal time decay structures of solutions that reveals how the spectrum of the linearized non-cutoff Boltzmann equation in the mentioned parameter range changes continuously under the grazing limit.

We consider a Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equation governing the evolution of the density of interacting and diffusive matter in the space of positions and velocities. We use a probabilistic interpretation to obtain convergence towards equilibrium in Wasserstein distance with an explicit exponential rate. We also prove a propagation of chaos property for an associated particle system, and give rates on the approximation of the solution by the particle system. Finally, a transportation inequality for the distribution of the particle system leads to quantitative deviation bounds on the approximation of the equilibrium solution of the equation by an empirical mean of the particles at given time.
