We study the hop-constrained s-t path enumeration (HcPE) problem, which takes a graph $G$, two distinct vertices $s,t$ and a hop constraint $k$ as input, and outputs all paths from $s$ to $t$ whose length is at most $k$. The state-of-the-art algorithms suffer from severe performance issues caused by the costly pruning operations during enumeration for the workloads with the large search space. Consequently, these algorithms hardly meet the real-time constraints of many online applications. In this paper, we propose PathEnum, an efficient index-based algorithm towards real-time HcPE. For an input query, PathEnum first builds a light-weight index aiming to reduce the number of edges involved in the enumeration, and develops efficient index-based approaches for enumeration, one based on depth-first search and the other based on joins. We further develop a query optimizer based on a join-based cost model to optimize the search order. We conduct experiments with 15 real-world graphs. Our experiment results show that PathEnum outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches by orders of magnitude in terms of the query time, throughput and response time.

We prove the existence of an oblivious routing scheme that is $mathrm{poly}(log n)$-competitive in terms of $(congestion + dilation)$, thus resolving a well-known question in oblivious routing. Concretely, consider an undirected network and a set of packets each with its own source and destination. The objective is to choose a path for each packet, from its source to its destination, so as to minimize $(congestion + dilation)$, defined as follows: The dilation is the maximum path hop-length, and the congestion is the maximum number of paths that include any single edge. The routing scheme obliviously and randomly selects a path for each packet independent of (the existence of) the other packets. Despite this obliviousness, the selected paths have $(congestion + dilation)$ within a $mathrm{poly}(log n)$ factor of the best possible value. More precisely, for any integer hop-bound $h$, this oblivious routing scheme selects paths of length at most $h cdot mathrm{poly}(log n)$ and is $mathrm{poly}(log n)$-competitive in terms of $congestion$ in comparison to the best possible $congestion$ achievable via paths of length at most $h$ hops. These paths can be sampled in polynomial time. This result can be viewed as an analogue of the celebrated oblivious routing results of R{a}cke [FOCS 2002, STOC 2008], which are $O(log n)$-competitive in terms of $congestion$, but are not competitive in terms of $dilation$.
Discovering frequent episodes in event sequences is an interesting data mining task. In this paper, we argue that this framework is very effective for analyzing multi-neuronal spike train data. Analyzing spike train data is an important problem in neuroscience though there are no data mining approaches reported for this. Motivated by this application, we introduce different temporal constraints on the occurrences of episodes. We present algorithms for discovering frequent episodes under temporal constraints. Through simulations, we show that our method is very effective for analyzing spike train data for unearthing underlying connectivity patterns.
The growing popularity of dynamic applications such as social networks provides a promising way to detect valuable information in real time. Efficient analysis over high-speed data from dynamic applications is of great significance. Data from these dynamic applications can be easily modeled as streaming graph. In this paper, we study the subgraph (isomorphism) search over streaming graph data that obeys timing order constraints over the occurrence of edges in the stream. We propose a data structure and algorithm to efficiently answer subgraph search and introduce optimizations to greatly reduce the space cost, and propose concurrency management to improve system throughput. Extensive experiments on real network traffic data and synthetic social streaming data confirms the efficiency and effectiveness of our solution.
We describe Hokusai, a real time system which is able to capture frequency information for streams of arbitrary sequences of symbols. The algorithm uses the CountMin sketch as its basis and exploits the fact that sketching is linear. It provides real time statistics of arbitrary events, e.g. streams of queries as a function of time. We use a factorizing approximation to provide point estimates at arbitrary (time, item) combinations. Queries can be answered in constant time.
In this paper, a novel real-time acceleration-continuous path-constrained trajectory planning algorithm is proposed with an appealing built-in tradability mechanism between cruise motion and time-optimal motion. Different from existing approaches, the proposed approach smoothens time-optimal trajectories with bang-bang input structures to generate acceleration-continuous trajectories while preserving the completeness property. More importantly, a novel built-in tradability mechanism is proposed and embedded into the trajectory planning framework, so that the proportion of the cruise motion and time-optimal motion can be flexibly adjusted by changing a user-specified functional parameter. Thus, the user can easily apply the trajectory planning algorithm for various tasks with different requirements on motion efficiency and cruise proportion. Moreover, it is shown that feasible trajectories are computed more quickly than optimal trajectories. Rigorous mathematical analysis and proofs are provided for these aforementioned results. Comparative simulation and experimental results on omnidirectional wheeled mobile robots demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm in terms of flexible tunning between cruise and time-optimal motions, as well as higher computational efficiency.
