Attribute reduction is one of the most important research topics in the theory of rough sets, and many rough sets-based attribute reduction methods have thus been presented. However, most of them are specifically designed for dealing with either labeled data or unlabeled data, while many real-world applications come in the form of partial supervision. In this paper, we propose a rough sets-based semi-supervised attribute reduction method for partially labeled data. Particularly, with the aid of prior class distribution information about data, we first develop a simple yet effective strategy to produce the proxy labels for unlabeled data. Then the concept of information granularity is integrated into the information-theoretic measure, based on which, a novel granular conditional entropy measure is proposed, and its monotonicity is proved in theory. Furthermore, a fast heuristic algorithm is provided to generate the optimal reduct of partially labeled data, which could accelerate the process of attribute reduction by removing irrelevant examples and excluding redundant attributes simultaneously. Extensive experiments conducted on UCI data sets demonstrate that the proposed semi-supervised attribute reduction method is promising and even compares favourably with the supervised methods on labeled data and unlabeled data with true labels in terms of classification performance.

Online reviews are a vital source of information when purchasing a service or a product. Opinion spammers manipulate these reviews, deliberately altering the overall perception of the service. Though there exists a corpus of online reviews, only a few have been labeled as spam or non-spam, making it difficult to train spam detection models. We propose an adversarial training mechanism leveraging the capabilities of Generative Pre-Training 2 (GPT-2) for classifying opinion spam with limited labeled data and a large set of unlabeled data. Experiments on TripAdvisor and YelpZip datasets show that the proposed model outperforms state-of-the-art techniques by at least 7% in terms of accuracy when labeled data is limited. The proposed model can also generate synthetic spam/non-spam reviews with reasonable perplexity, thereby, providing additional labeled data during training.

This paper mainly studies the rule acquisition and attribute reduction for formal decision context based on two new kinds of decision rules, namely I-decision rules and II-decision rules. The premises of these rules are object-oriented concepts, and the conclusions are formal concept and property-oriented concept respectively. The rule acquisition algorithms for I-decision rules and II-decision rules are presented. Some comparative analysis of these algorithms with the existing algorithms are examined which shows that the algorithms presented in this study behave well. The attribute reduction approaches to preserve I-decision rules and II-decision rules are presented by using discernibility matrix.
We apply the network Lasso to classify partially labeled data points which are characterized by high-dimensional feature vectors. In order to learn an accurate classifier from limited amounts of labeled data, we borrow statistical strength, via an intrinsic network structure, across the dataset. The resulting logistic network Lasso amounts to a regularized empirical risk minimization problem using the total variation of a classifier as a regularizer. This minimization problem is a non-smooth convex optimization problem which we solve using a primal-dual splitting method. This method is appealing for big data applications as it can be implemented as a highly scalable message passing algorithm.
Quantitative analysis of cell nuclei in microscopic images is an essential yet challenging source of biological and pathological information. The major challenge is accurate detection and segmentation of densely packed nuclei in images acquired under a variety of conditions. Mask R-CNN-based methods have achieved state-of-the-art nucleus segmentation. However, the current pipeline requires fully annotated training images, which are time consuming to create and sometimes noisy. Importantly, nuclei often appear similar within the same image. This similarity could be utilized to segment nuclei with only partially labeled training examples. We propose a simple yet effective region-proposal module for the current Mask R-CNN pipeline to perform few-exemplar learning. To capture the similarities between unlabeled regions and labeled nuclei, we apply decomposed self-attention to learned features. On the self-attention map, we observe strong activation at the centers and edges of all nuclei, including unlabeled nuclei. On this basis, our region-proposal module propagates partial annotations to the whole image and proposes effective bounding boxes for the bounding box-regression and binary mask-generation modules. Our method effectively learns from unlabeled regions thereby improving detection performance. We test our method with various nuclear images. When trained with only 1/4 of the nuclei annotated, our approach retains a detection accuracy comparable to that from training with fully annotated data. Moreover, our method can serve as a bootstrapping step to create full annotations of datasets, iteratively generating and correcting annotations until a predetermined coverage and accuracy are reached. We study the problem of query attribute value extraction, which aims to identify named entities from user queries as diverse surface form attribute values and afterward transform them into formally canonical forms. Such a problem consists of two phases: {named entity recognition (NER)} and {attribute value normalization (AVN)}. However, existing works only focus on the NER phase but neglect equally important AVN. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a unified query attribute value extraction system in e-commerce search named QUEACO, which involves both two phases. Moreover, by leveraging large-scale weakly-labeled behavior data, we further improve the extraction performance with less supervision cost. Specifically, for the NER phase, QUEACO adopts a novel teacher-student network, where a teacher network that is trained on the strongly-labeled data generates pseudo-labels to refine the weakly-labeled data for training a student network. Meanwhile, the teacher network can be dynamically adapted by the feedback of the students performance on strongly-labeled data to maximally denoise the noisy supervisions from the weak labels. For the AVN phase, we also leverage the weakly-labeled query-to-attribute behavior data to normalize surface form attribute values from queries into canonical forms from products. Extensive experiments on a real-world large-scale E-commerce dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of QUEACO.
