We establish global-in-time existence results for thermodynamically consistent reaction-(cross-)diffusion systems coupled to an equation describing heat transfer. Our main interest is to model species-dependent diffusivities, while at the same time ensuring thermodynamic consistency. A key difficulty of the non-isothermal case lies in the intrinsic presence of cross-diffusion type phenomena like the Soret and the Dufour effect: due to the temperature/energy dependence of the thermodynamic equilibria, a nonvanishing temperature gradient may drive a concentration flux even in a situation with constant concentrations; likewise, a nonvanishing concentration gradient may drive a heat flux even in a case of spatially constant temperature. We use time discretisation and regularisation techniques and derive a priori estimates based on a suitable entropy and the associated entropy production. Renormalised solutions are used in cases where non-integrable diffusion fluxes or reaction terms appear.

We establish weak-strong uniqueness and stability properties of renormalised solutions to a class of energy-reaction-diffusion systems, which genuinely feature cross-diffusion effects. The systems considered are motivated by thermodynamically consistent models, and their formal entropy structure allows us to use as a key tool a suitably adjusted relative entropy method. Weak-strong uniqueness is obtained for general entropy-dissipating reactions without growth restrictions, and certain models with a non-integrable diffusive flux. The results also apply to a class of (isoenergetic) reaction-cross-diffusion systems.
We consider the porous medium equation with a power-like reaction term, posed on Riemannian manifolds. Under certain assumptions on $p$ and $m$ in (1.1), and for small enough nonnegative initial data, we prove existence of global in time solutions, provided that the Sobolev inequality holds on the manifold. Furthermore, when both the Sobolev and the Poincare inequality hold, similar results hold under weaker assumptions on the forcing term. By the same functional analytic methods, we investigate global existence for solutions to the porous medium equation with source term and variable density in ${mathbb R}^n$.

Reaction diffusion systems are often used to study pattern formation in biological systems. However, most methods for understanding their behavior are challenging and can rarely be applied to complex systems common in biological applications. I present a relatively simple and efficient, non-linear stability technique that greatly aids such analysis when rates of diffusion are substantially different. This technique reduces a system of reaction diffusion equations to a system of ordinary differential equations tracking the evolution of a large amplitude, spatially localized perturbation of a homogeneous steady state. Stability properties of this system, determined using standard bifurcation techniques and software, describe both linear and non-linear patterning regimes of the reaction diffusion system. I describe the class of systems this method can be applied to and demonstrate its application. Analysis of Schnakenberg and substrate inhibition models is performed to demonstrate the methods capabilities in simplified settings and show that even these simple models have non-linear patterning regimes not previously detected. Analysis of a protein regulatory network related to chemotaxis shows its application in a more complex setting where other non-linear methods become intractable. Predictions of this method are verified against results of numerical simulation, linear stability, and full PDE bifurcation analyses.
We give a comprehensive study of the analytic properties and long-time behavior of solutions of a reaction-diffusion system in a bounded domain in the case where the nonlinearity satisfies the standard monotonicity assumption. We pay the main attention to the supercritical case, where the nonlinearity is not subordinated to the linear part of the equation trying to put as small as possible amount of extra restrictions on this nonlinearity. The properties of such systems in the supercritical case may be very different in comparison with the standard case of subordinated nonlinearities. We examine the global existence and uniqueness of weak and strong solutions, various types of smoothing properties, asymptotic compactness and the existence of global and exponential attractors.

In this paper, we study a one dimensional nonlinear equation with diffusion $- u(-partial_{xx})^{frac{alpha}{2}}$ for $0leq alphaleq 2$ and $ u>0$. We use a viscous-splitting algorithm to obtain global nonnegative weak solutions in space $L^1(mathbb{R})cap H^{1/2}(mathbb{R})$ when $0leqalphaleq 2$. For subcritical $1<alphaleq 2$ and critical case $alpha=1$, we obtain global existence and uniqueness of nonnegative spatial analytic solutions. We use a fractional bootstrap method to improve the regularity of mild solutions in Bessel potential spaces for subcritical case $1<alphaleq 2$. Then, we show that the solutions are spatial analytic and can be extended globally. For the critical case $alpha=1$, if the initial data $rho_0$ satisfies $- u<infrho_0<0$, we use the characteristics methods for complex Burgers equation to obtain a unique spatial analytic solution to our target equation in some bounded time interval. If $rho_0geq0$, the solution exists globally and converges to steady state.
