A gas electron multiplier (GEM) detector with a gadolinium cathode has been developed to explore its potential application as a neutron detector. It consists of three standard-sized ($10times 10$ cm${}^{2}$) GEM foils and a thin gadolinium plate as the cathode, which is used as a neutron converter. The neutron detection efficiencies were measured for two different cathode setups and for two different drift gaps. The thermal neutron source at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) was used to measure the neutron detection efficiency. Based on the neutron flux measured by KRISS, the neutron detection efficiency of our gadolinium GEM detector was $4.630 pm 0.034(stat.) pm 0.279(syst.) %$.

A GEM detector with an effective area of 30*30 cm2 has been constructed using an improved self-stretch technique, which enables an easy and fast GEM assembling. The design and assembling of the detector is described. Results from tests of the detector with 8 keV X-rays on effective gain and energy resolution are presented.
The GEM-based neutron detector has flourished in the past decade. However almost all the GEM-based neutron detectors work in the flow-gas mode, and the long-term performances of the detectors may be unstable due to the dynamic changes of atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature. In this paper, a sealed ceramic GEM-based neutron detector was developed at China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) and its sensitive area was 100 mm * 100 mm. The characterizations of the detector were presented and discussed, which included the plateau curve, the neutron beam profile, the neutron wavelength spectrum, the spatial resolution (FWHM: 2.77 mm), the two-dimensional (2D) imaging ability, the neutron detection efficiency and the counting rate instability (Relative Standard Deviation (RSD): 0.7%). The results show that the detector has good performances in sealed mode, and it can be used for the measurement of the direct neutron beam at CSNS.
Optical readout of GEM based devices by means of high granularity and low noise CMOS sensors allows to obtain very interesting tracking performance. Space resolution of the order of tens of $mu$m were measured on the GEM plane along with an energy resolution of 20%$div$30%. The main limitation of CMOS sensors is represented by their poor information about time structure of the event. In this paper, the use of a concurrent light readout by means of a suitable photomultiplier and the acquisition of the electric signal induced on the GEM electrode are exploited to provide the necessary timing informations. The analysis of the PMT waveform allows a 3D reconstruction of each single clusters with a resolution on z of 100 $mu$m. Moreover, from the PMT signals it is possible to obtain a fast reconstruction of the energy released within the detector with a resolution of the order of 25% even in the tens of keV range useful, for example, for triggering purpose.
At NISER-IoP detector laboratory an initiative is taken to build and test Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors for ALICE experiment. The optimisation of the gas flow rate and the long-term stability test of the GEM detector are performed. The method and test results are presented.

The main aim of the study is to perform the long-term stability test of gain of the single mask triple GEM detector. A simple method is used for this long- term stability test using a radioactive X-ray source with high activity. The test is continued till accumulation of charge per unit area > 12.0 mC/mm2. The details of the chamber fabrication, the test set-up, the method of measurement and the test results are presented in this paper.
