We theoretically investigate the tunneling conductance of the $d+ip$-wave superconductor which is recently proposed to be realised at the (110) surface of a high-$T_c$ cuprate superconductor. Utilizing the quasiclassical Eilenberger theory, we obtain the self-consistent pair potentials and the differential conductance of the normal-metal/$d+ip$-wave superconductor junction. We demonstrate that the zero-bias peak of a $d$-wave superconductor is robust against the spin-triplet $p$-wave surface subdominant order even though it is fragile against the spin-singlet $s$-wave one. Comparing our numerical results and the experimental results, we conclude the spin-triplet $p$-wave surface subdominant order is feasible.

We show that a constriction-type Josephson junction realized by an epitactic thin film of a d-wave superconductor with an appropriate boundary geometry exhibits intrinsic phase differences between 0 and pi depending on geometric parameters and temperature. Based on microscopic Eilenberger theory, we provide a general derivation of the relation between the change of the free energy of the junction and the current-phase relation. From the change of the free energy, we calculate phase diagrams and discuss transitions driven by geometric parameters and temperature.

Measurements of the differential conductance spectra of YBa2Cu3O7-SrRuO3 and YBa2Cu3O7-La0.67Ca_0.33MnO3 ramp-type junctions along the node and anti-node directions are reported. The results are consistent with a crossed Andreev reflection effect only in YBa2Cu3O7-SrRuO3 junctions where the domain wall width of SrRuO3 is comparable with the coherence length of YBa2Cu3O7. No such effect was observed in the YBa2Cu3O7-La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 junctions, which is in line with the much larger (x10) domain wall width of La0.67Ca0.33MnO3. We also show that crossed Andreev exists only in the anti-node direction. Furthermore, we find evidence that crossed Andreev in YBa2Cu3O7 junctions is not sensitive to nm-scale interface defects, suggesting that the length scale of the crossed Andreev effect is larger than the coherence length, but still smaller than the La0.67Ca0.33MnO3s domain wall width.
Scanning tunnelling spectroscopy (STS) measurements find that the surface of Bi-2212 is characterized by nanoscale sized regions, gap patches, which have different magnitudes for the d-wave energy gap. Recent studies have shown that the tunnelling conductance can be fit using a BCS-type density of states for a d-wave superconductor with a local quasiparticle scattering rate. The fit is made with a scattering rate which varies linearly with energy and has a slope that is positively correlated with the local value of the gap. We revisit a model of quasiparticle scattering by impurities and spin fluctuations which was previously used to describe the lifetimes of nodal quasiparticles measured by angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES). We argue that the broadening of the local density of states is in general determined by the imaginary part of the self-energy of the system averaged over a small region. The size of this region is set by a mean free path which depends upon the energy. At low energies, this region is found to be significantly larger than a gap patch, so that the density of states measured by STS is homogeneous in this energy range. At higher energies where the mean free path is comparable with the patch size, the density of states is inhomogeneous. We show that a local self-energy in the impurity-plus-spin fluctuation model, while not strictly linear, yields a local density of states (LDOS) nearly identical to the full theory, and argue that it is consistent with the STS data as well as the phenomenological linear scattering rate extracted from experiment. We also explore the qualitative consequences of this phenomenology for the spectral widths observed in ARPES and predict the existence of Fermi arcs in the superconducting state.

Neutron scattering is used to probe antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in the d-wave heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn$_{5}$ (T$_{c}$=2.3 K). Superconductivity develops from a state with slow ($hbarGamma$=0.3 $pm$ 0.15 meV) commensurate (${bf{Q_0}}$=(1/2,1/2,1/2)) antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations and nearly isotropic spin correlations. The characteristic wavevector in CeCoIn$_{5}$ is the same as CeIn$_{3}$ but differs from the incommensurate wavevector measured in antiferromagnetically ordered CeRhIn$_{5}$. A sharp spin resonance ($hbarGamma<0.07$ meV) at $hbar omega$ = 0.60 $pm$ 0.03 meV develops in the superconducting state removing spectral weight from low-energy transfers. The presence of a resonance peak is indicative of strong coupling between f-electron magnetism and superconductivity and consistent with a d-wave gap order parameter satisfying $Delta({bf q+Q_0})=-Delta({bf q})$.

We show that the low-energy density of quasiparticle states in the mixed state of ultra-clean d-wave superconductors is characterized by pronounced quantum oscillations in the regime where the cyclotron frequency $hbaromega_c ll Delta_0$, the d-wave pairing gap. Such oscillations as a function of magnetic field B are argued to be due to the internodal scattering of the d-wave quasiparticles near wavevectors $(pm k_D,pm k_D)$ by the vortex lattice as well as their Zeeman coupling. The periodicity of the oscillations is set by the condition $k_D sqrt{hc/(eB)} equiv k_D sqrt{hc/(eB)}pmod {2pi}$. We find that there is additional structure within each period which grows in complexity as the Dirac node anisotropy increases.
