We do three things in this paper: (1) study the analog of localization sequences (in the sense of algebraic $K$-theory of stable $infty$-categories) for additive $infty$-categories, (2) define the notion of nilpotent extensions for suitable $infty$-categories and furnish interesting examples such as categorical square-zero extensions, and (3) use (1) and (2) to extend the Dundas-Goodwillie-McCarthy theorem for stable $infty$-categories which are not monogenically generated (such as the stable $infty$-category of Voevodskys motives or the stable $infty$-category of perfect complexes on some algebraic stacks). The key input in our paper is Bondarkos notion of weight structures which provides a ring-with-many-objects analog of a connective $mathbb{E}_1$-ring spectrum. As applications, we prove cdh descent results for truncating invariants of stacks extending the work of Hoyois-Krishna for homotopy $K$-theory, and establish new cases of Blancs lattice conjecture.
We define the Chow $t$-structure on the $infty$-category of motivic spectra $SH(k)$ over an arbitrary base field $k$. We identify the heart of this $t$-structure $SH(k)^{cheartsuit}$ when the exponential characteristic of $k$ is inverted. Restricting to the cellular subcategory, we identify the Chow heart $SH(k)^{cell, cheartsuit}$ as the category of even graded $MU_{2*}MU$-comodules. Furthermore, we show that the $infty$-category of modules over the Chow truncated sphere spectrum is algebraic. Our results generalize the ones in Gheorghe--Wang--Xu in three aspects: To integral results; To all base fields other than just $C$; To the entire $infty$-category of motivic spectra $SH(k)$, rather than a subcategory containing only certain cellular objects. We also discuss a strategy for computing motivic stable homotopy groups of (p-completed) spheres over an arbitrary base field $k$ using the Postnikov tower associated to the Chow $t$-structure and the motivic Adams spectral sequences over $k$.
We prove that for a quasi-regular semiperfectoid $mathbb{Z}_p^{rm cycl}$-algebra $R$ (in the sense of Bhatt-Morrow-Scholze), the cyclotomic trace map from the $p$-completed $K$-theory spectrum $K(R;mathbb{Z}_p)$ of $R$ to the topological cyclic homology $mathrm{TC}(R;mathbb{Z}_p)$ of $R$ identifies on $pi_2$ with a $q$-deformation of the logarithm.
We prove a version of J.P. Mays theorem on the additivity of traces, in symmetric monoidal stable $infty$-categories. Our proof proceeds via a categorification, namely we use the additivity of topological Hochschild homology as an invariant of stable $infty$-categories and construct a morphism of spectra $mathrm{THH}(mathbf C)to mathrm{End}(mathbf 1_mathbf C)$ for $mathbf C$ a stably symmetric monoidal rigid $infty$-category. We also explain how to get a more general statement involving traces of finite (homotopy) colimits.
We define Grothendieck-Witt spectra in the setting of Poincare $infty$-categories and show that they fit into an extension with a L- and an L-theoretic part. As consequences we deduce localisation sequences for Verdier quotients, and generalisations of Karoubis fundamental and periodicity theorems for rings in which 2 need not be invertible. Our set-up allows for the uniform treatment of such algebraic examples alongside homotopy-theoretic generalisations: For example, the periodicity theorem holds for complex oriented $mathrm{E}_1$-rings, and we show that the Grothendieck-Witt theory of parametrised spectra recovers Weiss and Williams LA-theory. Our Grothendieck-Witt spectra are defined via a version of the hermitian Q-construction, and a novel feature of our approach is to interpret the latter as a cobordism category. This perspective also allows us to give a hermitian version -- along with a concise proof -- of the theorem of Blumberg, Gepner and Tabuada, and provides a cobordism theoretic description of the aforementioned LA-spectra.
We show that an old conjecture of A.A. Suslin characterizing the image of a Hurewicz map from Quillen K-theory in degree $n$ to Milnor K-theory in degree $n$ admits an interpretation in terms of unstable ${mathbb A}^1$-homotopy sheaves of the general linear group. Using this identification, we establish Suslins conjecture in degree $5$ for infinite fields having characteristic unequal to $2$ or $3$. We do this by linking the relevant unstable ${mathbb A}^1$-homotopy sheaf of the general linear group to the stable ${mathbb A}^1$-homotopy of motivic spheres.
