Atom-like quantum systems in solids have been proposed as a compact alternative for atomic clocks, but realizing the potential of solid-state technology will requires an architecture design which overcomes traditional limitations such as magnetic and temperature-induced systematics. Here, we propose a solution to this problem: a `solid-state spin clock that hybridizes a microwave resonator with a magnetic-field-insensitive spin transition within the ground state of the diamond nitrogen-vacancy center. Detailed numerical and analytical modeling of this `polariton-stabilized spin clock (PSSC) indicates a potential fractional frequency instability below $10^{-13}$ at 1 second measurement time, assuming present-day experimental parameters. This stability would represent a significant improvement over the state-of-the-art in miniaturized atomic vapor clocks.

We theoretically show that, despite Earnshaws theorem, a non-rotating single magnetic domain nanoparticle can be stably levitated in an external static magnetic field. The stabilization relies on the quantum spin origin of magnetization, namely the gyromagnetic effect. We predict the existence of two stable phases related to the Einstein--de Haas effect and the Larmor precession. At a stable point, we derive a quadratic Hamiltonian that describes the quantum fluctuations of the degrees of freedom of the system. We show that in the absence of thermal fluctuations, the quantum state of the nanomagnet at the equilibrium point contains entanglement and squeezing.
Integrated circuits of photonic components are the goal of applied polaritonics. Here, we propose a compact clock generator based on an exciton-polariton micropillar, providing optical signal with modulation frequency up to 100 GHz. This generator can be used for driving polariton devices. The clock frequency can be controlled by the driving laser frequency. The device also features low power consumption (1 pJ/pulse).
We demonstrate a weak continuous measurement of the pseudo-spin associated with the clock transition in a sample of Cs atoms. Our scheme uses an optical probe tuned near the D1 transition to measure the sample birefringence, which depends on the z-component of the collective pseudospin. At certain probe frequencies the differential light shift of the clock states vanishes and the measurement is non-perturbing. In dense samples the measurement can be used to squeeze the collective clock pseudo-spin, and has potential to improve the performance of atomic clocks and interferometers.
We propose a novel scheme for coupling a Rydberg state to a stationary light polariton, based on a dual-V level scheme. We investigate the properties of the resulting stationary Rydberg polariton, and show that its form and its quadratic dispersion relation closely resemble that of the stationary light polariton of the underlying dual-V scheme. We consider the influence of a Rydberg impurity on the system and find strong interaction-induced absorption of the involved probe field. The proposed scheme for a stationary Rydberg polariton might find applications for realizing interacting polaritons with increased interaction time.
Squeezed many-body states of atoms are a valuable resource for high precision frequency metrology and could tremendously boost the performance of atomic lattice clocks. Here, we theoretically demonstrate a viable approach to spin squeezing in lattice clocks via optical dressing of one clock state to a highly excited Rydberg state, generating switchable atomic interactions. For realistic experimental parameters, this is shown to generate over 10 dB of squeezing in a few microseconds interaction time without affecting the subsequent clock interrogation.
