In this letter, a C-RAN-type cluster-head-driven uplink model for multiple-antenna Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) relaying schemes, which enables joint Maximum Likelihood (ML) symbol detection in the UAV cluster-head and the selection of UAV sources to communicate with each other aided by UAV-based relays, {is presented. In this context,} a relay selection technique, named Cluster-Head-Driven Best-Link (CHD-Best-Link), that employs cluster-head buffers and physical-layer network coding, {is devised}. Then, a recursive maximum minimum distance relay selection strategy that exploits time-correlated channels and equips the CHD-Best-Link scheme is developed. Simulations illustrate that CHD-Best-Link has superior average delay and bit error rate performances to that of previous schemes.

Stopping sets play a crucial role in failure events of iterative decoders over a binary erasure channel (BEC). The $ell$-th stopping redundancy is the minimum number of rows in the parity-check matrix of a code, which contains no stopping sets of size up to $ell$. In this work, a notion of coverable stopping sets is defined. In order to achieve maximum-likelihood performance under iterative decoding over the BEC, the parity-check matrix should contain no coverable stopping sets of size $ell$, for $1 le ell le n-k$, where $n$ is the code length, $k$ is the code dimension. By estimating the number of coverable stopping sets, we obtain upper bounds on the $ell$-th stopping redundancy, $1 le ell le n-k$. The bounds are derived for both specific codes and code ensembles. In the range $1 le ell le d-1$, for specific codes, the new bounds improve on the results in the literature. Numerical calculations are also presented.

Mobile relaying is emerged as a promising technique to assist wireless communication, driven by the rapid development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In this paper, we study secure transmission in a four-node (source, destination, mobile relay, and eavesdropper) system, wherein we focus on maximizing the secrecy rate via jointly optimizing the relay trajectory and the source/relay transmit power. Nevertheless, due to the coupling of the trajectory designing and the power allocating, the secrecy rate maximization (SRM) problem is intractable to solve. Accordingly, we propose an alternating optimization (AO) approach, wherein the trajectory designing and the power allocating are tackled in an alternating manner. Unfortunately, the trajectory designing is a nonconvex problem, and thus is still hard to solve. To circumvent the nonconvexity, we exploit sequential convex programming (SCP) to derive an iterative algorithm, which is proven to converge to a Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) point of the trajectory design problem. The simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the joint power and trajectory design in improving the secrecy throughput.
Fractional repetition (FR) codes are a class of repair efficient erasure codes that can recover a failed storage node with both optimal repair bandwidth and complexity. In this paper, we study the minimum distance of FR codes, which is the smallest number of nodes whose failure leads to the unrecoverable loss of the stored file. We consider upper bounds on the minimum distance and present several families of explicit FR codes attaining these bounds. The optimal constructions are derived from regular graphs and combinatorial designs, respectively.

This work studies the joint problem of power and trajectory optimization in an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled mobile relaying system. In the considered system, in order to provide convenient and sustainable energy supply to the UAV relay, we consider the deployment of a power beacon (PB) which can wirelessly charge the UAV and it is realized by a properly designed laser charging system. To this end, we propose an efficiency (the weighted sum of the energy efficiency during information transmission and wireless power transmission efficiency) maximization problem by optimizing the source/UAV/PB transmit powers along with the UAVs trajectory. This optimization problem is also subject to practical mobility constraints, as well as the information-causality constraint and energy-causality constraint at the UAV. Different from the commonly used alternating optimization (AO) algorithm, two joint design algorithms, namely: the concave-convex procedure (CCCP) and penalty dual decomposition (PDD)-based algorithms, are presented to address the resulting non-convex problem, which features complex objective function with multiple-ratio terms and coupling constraints. These two very different algorithms are both able to achieve a stationary solution of the original efficiency maximization problem. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
We propose a binary message passing decoding algorithm for product codes based on generalized minimum distance decoding (GMDD) of the component codes, where the last stage of the GMDD makes a decision based on the Hamming distance metric. The proposed algorithm closes half of the gap between conventional iterative bounded distance decoding (iBDD) and turbo product decoding based on the Chase--Pyndiah algorithm, at the expense of some increase in complexity. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm entails only a limited increase in data flow compared to iBDD.
