We discuss the violation of quark-flavor symmetry at high temperatures, induced from nonperturbative thermal loop corrections and axial anomaly, based on a three-flavor linear-sigma model including an axial-anomaly induced-flavor breaking term. We employ a nonperturbative analysis following the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis formalism, and show that the model undergoes a chiral crossover with a pseudo-critical temperature, consistently with lattice observations. We find following features regarding the flavor breaking eminent around and above the pseudo-critical temperature: i) up-and down-quark condensates drop faster than the strange quarks toward the criticality, but still keep nonzero value even going far above the critical temperature; ii) the introduced anomaly-related flavor-breaking effect acts as a catalyzer toward the chiral restoration, and reduces the amount of flavor breaking in the up, down and strange quark condensates; iii) a dramatic deformation for the meson flavor mixing structure is observed, in which the anomaly-induced favor breaking is found to be almost irrelevant; iv) the meson spectroscopy gets corrected by the net nonperturbative flavor breaking effects, where the scalar meson mass hierarchy (inverse mass hierarchy) is significantly altered by the presence of the anomaly-related flavor breaking; v) the topological susceptibility significantly gets the contribution from the surviving strange quark condensate, which cannot be dictated by the chiral perturbation theory, and deviates from the dilute instanton gas prediction. There the anomaly-induced flavor breaking plays a role of the destructive interference for the net flavor violation; vi) the U(1)_A breaking is enhanced by the strange quark condensate, which may account for the tension in the effective U(1)_A restoration observed on lattices with two flavors and 2+1 flavors near the chiral limit.

We demonstrate that the QCD topological susceptibility nonperturbatively gets a significant contribution signaled by flavor-nonuniversal quark condensates at around the pseudo-critical temperature of the chiral crossover. It implies a remarkable flavor breaking in the axial anomaly as well as the QCD theta vacuum in high temperature QCD, which are almost flavor universal in the vacuum. A nontrivial flavor breaking is triggered by nonperturbative thermal loop corrections at around the chiral crossover, which is different from the trivial flavor violation just scaled by the quark mass ratio, observed at asymptotically high temperatures. This critical flavor violation cannot be dictated by the chiral perturbation theory with that lattice QCD usually compares, or the dilute instanton gas approximation based on that its astrophysical implications have conventionally been made. This would give an impact on the thermal history and the cosmological evolution of QCD axion including the estimate of the relic abundance as a dark matter candidate.
We present results for pseudo-critical temperatures of QCD chiral crossovers at zero and non-zero values of baryon ($B$), strangeness ($S$), electric charge ($Q$), and isospin ($I$) chemical potentials $mu_{X=B,Q,S,I}$. The results were obtained using lattice QCD calculations carried out with two degenerate up and down dynamical quarks and a dynamical strange quark, with quark masses corresponding to physical values of pion and kaon masses in the continuum limit. By parameterizing pseudo-critical temperatures as $ T_c(mu_X) = T_c(0) left[ 1 -kappa_2^{X}(mu_{X}/T_c(0))^2 -kappa_4^{X}(mu_{X}/T_c(0))^4 right] $, we determined $kappa_2^X$ and $kappa_4^X$ from Taylor expansions of chiral observables in $mu_X$. We obtained a precise result for $T_c(0)=(156.5pm1.5);mathrm{MeV}$. For analogous thermal conditions at the chemical freeze-out of relativistic heavy-ion collisions, i.e., $mu_{S}(T,mu_{B})$ and $mu_{Q}(T,mu_{B})$ fixed from strangeness-neutrality and isospin-imbalance, we found $kappa_2^B=0.012(4)$ and $kappa_4^B=0.000(4)$. For $mu_{B}lesssim300;mathrm{MeV}$, the chemical freeze-out takes place in the vicinity of the QCD phase boundary, which coincides with the lines of constant energy density of $0.42(6);mathrm{GeV/fm}^3$ and constant entropy density of $3.7(5);mathrm{fm}^{-3}$.

The chiral magnetic effect (CME) is an exact statement that connects via the axial anomaly the electric current in a system consisting of interacting fermions and gauge field with chirality imbalance that is put into a strong external magnetic field. Experimental search of the magnetically induced current in QCD in heavy ion collisions above a pseudocritical temperature hints, though not yet conclusive, that the induced current is either small or vanishing. This would imply that the chirality imbalance in QCD above $T_c$ that could be generated via topological fluctuations is at most very small. Here we present the most general reason for absence (smallness) of the chirality imbalance in QCD above Tc. It was recently found on the lattice that QCD above Tc is approximately chiral spin (CS) symmetric with the symmetry breaking at the level of a few percent. The CS transformations mix the right- and left-handed components of quarks. Then an exact CS symmetry would require absence of any chirality imbalance. Consequently an approximate CS symmetry admits at most a very small chirality imbalance in QCD above Tc. Hence the absence or smallness of an magnetically induced current observed in heavy ion collisions could be considered as experimental evidence for emergence of the CS symmetry above Tc.
At small transverse momentum $q_T$, transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) arise as genuinely nonperturbative objects that describe Drell-Yan like processes in hadron collisions as well as semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. TMDPDFs naturally depend on the hadron momentum, and the associated evolution is determined by the Collins-Soper equation. For $q_T sim Lambda_mathrm{QCD}$ the corresponding evolution kernel (or anomalous dimension) is nonperturbative and must be determined as an independent ingredient in order to relate TMDPDFs at different scales. We propose a method to extract this kernel using lattice QCD and the Large-Momentum Effective Theory, where the physical TMD correlation involving light-like paths is approximated by a quasi TMDPDF, defined using equal-time correlation functions with a large-momentum hadron state. The kernel is determined from a ratio of quasi TMDPDFs extracted at different hadron momenta.
We present a lattice QCD based determination of the chiral phase transition temperature in QCD with two degenerate, massless quarks and a physical strange quark mass. We propose and calculate two novel estimators for the chiral transition temperature for several values of the light quark masses, corresponding to Goldstone pion masses in the range of $58~{rm MeV}lesssim m_pilesssim 163~{rm MeV}$. The chiral phase transition temperature is determined by extrapolating to vanishing pion mass using universal scaling analysis. Finite volume effects are controlled by extrapolating to the thermodynamic limit using spatial lattice extents in the range of $2.8$-$4.5$ times the inverse of the pion mass. Continuum extrapolations are carried out by using three different values of the lattice cut-off, corresponding to lattices with temporal extent $N_tau=6, 8$ and $12$. After thermodynamic, continuum and chiral extrapolations we find the chiral phase transition temperature $T_c^0=132^{+3}_{-6}$ MeV.
