We show that in superfluids with fermionic imbalance and uniform ground state, there are stable solitons. These solutions are formed of radial density modulations resulting in nodal rings. We demonstrate that these solitons exhibit nontrivial soliton-soliton and soliton-vortex interactions and can form complicated bound states in the form of soliton sacks. In a phase-modulating (Fulde-Ferrell) background, we find different solitonic states, in the form of stable vortex-antivortex pairs.

We study the attractive Hubbard model with spin imbalance on two lattices featuring a flat band: the Lieb and kagome lattices. We present mean-field phase diagrams featuring exotic superfluid phases, similar to the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state, whose stability is confirmed by dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). The nature of the pairing is found to be richer than just the Fermi surface shift responsible for the usual FFLO state. The presence of a flat band allows for changes in the particle momentum distributions at null energy cost. This facilitates formation of nontrivial superfluid phases via multiband Cooper pair formation: the momentum distribution of the spin component in the flat band deforms to mimic the Fermi surface of the other spin component residing in a dispersive band. The Fermi surface of the unpaired particles that are typical for gapless superfluids becomes deformed as well. The results highlight the profound effect of flat dispersions on Fermi surface instabilities, and provide a potential route for observing spin-imbalanced superfluidity and superconductivity.

We obtain a phase diagram of the spin imbalanced Hubbard model on the Lieb lattice, which is known to feature a flat band in its single-particle spectrum. Using the BCS mean-field theory for multiband systems, we find a variety of superfluid phases with imbalance. In particular, we find four different types FFLO phases, i.e. superfluid phases with periodic spatial modulation. They differ by the magnitude and direction of the centre-of-mass momentum of Cooper pairs. We also see a large region of stable Sarma phase, where the density imbalance is associated with zero Cooper pair momentum. In the mechanism responsible for the formation of those phases, the crucial role is played by the flat band, wherein particles can readjust their density at zero energy cost. The multiorbital structure of the unit cell is found to stabilize the Sarma phase by allowing for a modulation of the order parameter within a unit cell. We also study the effect of finite temperature and a lattice with staggered hopping parameters on the behaviour of these phases.
A study of bright matter-wave solitons of a cesium Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is presented. Production of a single soliton is demonstrated and dependence of soliton atom number on the interatomic interaction is investigated. Formation of soliton trains in the quasi one-dimensional confinement is shown. Additionally, fragmentation of a BEC has been observed outside confinement, in free space. In the end a double BEC production setup for studying soliton collisions is described.
We present a numerical study of the one-dimensional BCS-BEC crossover of a spin-imbalanced Fermi gas. The crossover is described by the Bose-Fermi resonance model in a real space representation. Our main interest is in the behavior of the pair correlations, which, in the BCS limit, are of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov type, while in the BEC limit, a superfluid of diatomic molecules forms that exhibits quasi-condensation at zero momentum. We use the density matrix renormalization group method to compute the phase diagram as a function of the detuning of the molecular level and the polarization. As a main result, we show that FFLO-like correlations disappear well below full polarization close to the resonance. The critical polarization depends on both the detuning and the filling.
We investigate the one-dimensional Hubbard ring with attractive interaction in the presence of imbalanced spin populations by using the exact diagonalization method. The singlet pairing correlation function is found to show spatial oscillations with power-law decay as expected in the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state of a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid. In the strong coupling regime, the system shows an anomalous flux quantization of period h=4e, half of the superconducting flux quantum of h=2e, as recently predicted by mean-field analysis, together with various flux quanta smaller than h=4e. Notably, the observed flux quanta are determined by the difference between the system size NL and electron number N_e as h=(N_L-N_e)e.
