We present the vacuum of a two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT$_2$) as a network of Wilson lines in $SL(2,mathbb{R}) times SL(2,mathbb{R})$ Chern-Simons theory, which is conventionally used to study gravity in three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space (AdS$_3$). The position and shape of the network encode the cutoff scale at which the ground state density operator is defined. A general argument suggests identifying the `density of complexity of this network with the extrinsic curvature of the cutoff surface in AdS$_3$, which by the Gauss-Bonnet theorem agrees with the holographic Complexity = Volume proposal.

We propose an effective model of strongly coupled gauge theory at finite temperature on $R^3$ in the presence of an infrared cutoff. It is constructed by considering the theory on $S^3$ with an infrared cutoff and then taking the size of the $S^3$ to infinity while keeping the cutoff fixed. This model reproduces various qualitative features expected from its gravity dual.
We compute the quantum information metrics of a thermal CFT on $mathbb R^{1,1}$ perturbed by the scalar primary operators of conformal dimension $Delta=3,4,5,6$. In particular, we assume that the Hamiltonian of the mixed state commutes with each other and the temperature is fixed. Under these conditions, the evaluation is analogous to the pure state case. We also apply the method of [arXiv:1607.06519] to calculate the mixed state information metric for the scalar primary operator with conformal dimension $Delta=4$ holographically. We find an exact agreement between the two results in our approach.
We obtain an asymptotic formula for the average value of the operator product expansion coefficients of any unitary, compact two dimensional CFT with $c>1$. This formula is valid when one or more of the operators has large dimension or -- in the presence of a twist gap -- has large spin. Our formula is universal in the sense that it depends only on the central charge and not on any other details of the theory. This result unifies all previous asymptotic formulas for CFT$_2$ structure constants, including those derived from crossing symmetry of four point functions, modular covariance of torus correlation functions, and higher genus modular invariance. We determine this formula at finite central charge by deriving crossing kernels for higher genus crossing equations, which give analytic control over the structure constants even in the absence of exact knowledge of the conformal blocks. The higher genus modular kernels are obtained by sewing together the elementary kernels for four-point crossing and modular transforms of torus one-point functions. Our asymptotic formula is related to the DOZZ formula for the structure constants of Liouville theory, and makes precise the sense in which Liouville theory governs the universal dynamics of heavy operators in any CFT. The large central charge limit provides a link with 3D gravity, where the averaging over heavy states corresponds to a coarse-graining over black hole microstates in holographic theories. Our formula also provides an improved understanding of the Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis (ETH) in CFT$_2$, and suggests that ETH can be generalized to other kinematic regimes in two dimensional CFTs.

We present magnetic torque measurements on the Shastry-Sutherland quantum spin system SrCu$_2$(BO$_3$)$_2$ in fields up to 31 T and temperatures down to 50 mK. A new quantum phase is observed in a 1 T field range above the 1/8 plateau, in agreement with recent NMR results. Since the presence of the DM coupling precludes the existence of a true Bose-Einstein condensation and the formation of a supersolid phase in SrCu$_2$(BO$_3$)$_2$, the exact nature of the new phase in the vicinity of the plateau remains to be explained. Comparison between magnetization and torque data reveals a huge contribution of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction to the torque response. Finally, our measurements demonstrate the existence of a supercooling due to adiabatic magnetocaloric effects in pulsed field experiments.
We aim at formulating a higher-spin gravity theory around AdS$_2$ relevant for holography. As a first step, we investigate its kinematics by identifying the low-dimensional cousins of the standard higher-dimensional structures in higher-spin gravity such as the singleton, the higher-spin symmetry algebra, the higher-rank gauge and matter fields, etc. In particular, the higher-spin algebra is given here by $hs[lambda]$ and parameterized by a real parameter $lambda$. The singleton is defined to be a Verma module of the AdS$_2$ isometry subalgebra $so(2,1) subset hs[lambda]$ with conformal weight $Delta = frac{1pmlambda}{2},$. On the one hand, the spectrum of local modes is determined by the Flato-Fronsdal theorem for the tensor product of two such singletons. It is given by an infinite tower of massive scalar fields in AdS$_2$ with ascending masses expressed in terms of $lambda$. On the other hand, the higher-spin fields arising through the gauging of $hs[lambda]$ algebra do not propagate local degrees of freedom. Our analysis of the spectrum suggests that AdS$_2$ higher-spin gravity is a theory of an infinite collection of massive scalars with fine-tuned masses, interacting with infinitely many topological gauge fields. Finally, we discuss the holographic CFT$_1$ duals of the kinematical structures identified in the bulk.
