Synthesis, crystal and electronic structure, and physical properties of the Mo$_6$Ga$_{31}$ endohedral cluster superconductor are reported. The compound has two crystallographic modifications, monoclinic and triclinic, in which the same {Mo$_{12}$Ga$_{62}$} building units are perpendicular or codirectional to each other, respectively. Monoclinic and triclinic structures of Mo$_6$Ga$_{31}$ possess qualitatively the same electronic density of states showing a high peak at the Fermi level. Both modifications are inherently present in the bulk specimen. Due to the proximity effect, bulk Mo$_6$Ga$_{31}$ exhibits single superconducting transition at the critical temperature of 8.2 K in zero magnetic field. The upper critical field, which is 7.8 T at zero temperature, shows clear enhancement with respect to the Werthamer-Helfand-Honenberg prediction. Accordingly, heat capacity measurements indicate strong electron-phonon coupling in the superconducting state with the large ratio of $2Delta(0)/(k_BT_c)=4.5$, where 2$Delta(0)$ is the full superconducting gap at zero temperature.

Long-range order in quasi-one-dimensional (q1D) arrays of superconducting nanowires is established via a dimensional crossover from a fluctuating 1D regime to a phase-coherent 3D ground state. If a homogeneous crystalline superconductor exhibits sufficiently high uniaxial anisotropy, a similar 1D$rightarrow$3D crossover has been predicted to occur, provided that single-particle hopping transverse to the 1D axis is absent in the normal state. Here we present magnetic penetration depth and electrical transport data in single crystals of q1D Tl$_2$Mo$_6$Se$_6$, which reveal a 1D$rightarrow$3D superconducting dimensional crossover. Both experimental techniques uncover multiple energy scales within the superconducting transition, which describe a sequence of fluctuating regimes. As the temperature is reduced below $T_{ons}=$~6.7~K, 1D pairing fluctuations are replaced by 1D phase slips below $T_psim$~5.9~K. These give way to 3D phase fluctuations below $T_{ab}=$~4.9~K, prior to dimensional crossover at $T_{x2}sim$~4.4~K. The electrical resistivity below $T_{ab}$ is quantitatively consistent with the establishment of phase coherence through gradual binding of Josephson vortex strings to form 3D loops. An anomalously low superfluid density persist down to $sim$3~K before rising steeply --- in agreement with a theoretical model for crossovers in q1D superconductors, and suggesting that a small population of unbound, weakly-pinned vortices survives below the crossover. The observation of a dimensional crossover within the superconducting state has important consequences for the low-temperature normal state in Tl$_2$Mo$_6$Se$_6$ and similar q1D metals, which may exhibit one-dimensional behavior over far greater temperature ranges than band structure calculations suggest.
In this paper, potential two-gap superconductivity in Mo$_8$Ga$_{41}$ is addressed in detail by means of thermodynamic and spectroscopic measurements. Combination of highly sensitive ac-calorimetry and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS), as bulk and surface sensitive probes, utilized on the same piece of crystal reveals that there is only one intrinsic gap in the system featuring strong electron-phonon coupling. Traces of multiple superconducting phases seen by STS and also in the heat capacity measured in high magnetic fields on a high-quality and seemingly single-phase crystal might mimic the multigap superconductivity of Mo$_8$Ga$_{41}$ suggested recently in several studies.

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are at the focus of current research for their diverse properties, including superconductivity and structural polymorphism. However, the polymorphic transition has been observed only in nonsuperconducting HEAs and mostly under high pressure. Here we report the discovery of superconductivity and temperature-driven polymorphism in the (V$_{0.5}$Nb$_{0.5}$)$_{3-x}$Mo$_{x}$Al$_{0.5}$Ga$_{0.5}$ (0.2 $leq$ $x$ $leq$ 1.4) HEAs. It is found that the as-cast HEA is of a single body-centered cubic (bcc) structure for $x$ = 0.2 and a mixture of the bcc and A15 structures for higher $x$ values. Upon annealing, the bcc structure undergoes a polymorphic transformation to the A15 one and all HEAs exhibits bulk superconductivity. For $x$ = 0.2, whereas the bcc polymorph is not superconducting down to 1.8 K, the A15 polymorph has a superconducting transition temperature $T_{rm c}$ of 10.2 K and an estimated zero-temperature upper critical field $B_{rm c2}$(0) of 20.1 T, both of which are the highest among HEA superconductors. With increasing Mo content $x$, both $T_{rm c}$ and $B_{rm c2}$(0) of the A15-type HEAs decrease, yet the large ratio of $B_{rm c2}$(0)/$T_{rm c}$ signifies a disorder-induced enhancement of the upper critical field over a wide $x$ range. The decrease in $T_{rm c}$ is attributed to the decrease in both the electronic specific-heat coefficient and electron-phonon coupling strength. Furthermore, the valence electron count dependence of $T_{rm c}$, which is different from both the binary A15 and other structurally different HEA superconductors, suggests that $T_{rm c}$ may be increased further by reducing the number of valence electrons. Our results not only uncover HEA superconductors of a new structural type, but also provide the first example of polymorphism dependent superconductivity in HEAs.
The upper critical field $H_{c2}$ of purple bronze Li$_{0.9}$Mo$_6$O$_{17}$ is found to exhibit a large anisotropy, in quantitative agreement with that expected from the observed electrical resistivity anisotropy. With the field aligned along the most conducting axis, $H_{c2}$ increases monotonically with decreasing temperature to a value five times larger than the estimated paramagnetic pair-breaking field. Theories for the enhancement of $H_{c2}$ invoking spin-orbit scattering or strong-coupling superconductivity are shown to be inadequate in explaining the observed behavior, suggesting that the pairing state in Li$_{0.9}$Mo$_6$O$_{17}$ is unconventional and possibly spin-triplet.
We report on synthesis and characterization of gallide cluster based Mo8Ga41 superconductor. Transport and magnetization measurements confirm the superconducting transition temperature to be 9.8 K. The upper critical field, lower critical field, Ginzburg-Landau coherence length and penetration depth are estimated to be 11.8T, 150G, 5.2nm, 148nm respectively. The electronic band structure, density of states and phonon dispersion curve calculations are obtained by using Density Functional Theory. The core level X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) reveals the binding energy information of the constituting elements Mo and Ga in Mo8Ga41. The valence band spectra from XPS is in good agreement with calculated density of states (DOS). The zero field critical current density (Jc) at T = 2 K is ~ 3*10^5 A/cm^2 which is indicative of efficient flux pinning in the as grown compound. About two fold enhancement in critical current density with application of external pressure (1.1 GPa) is observed with marginal decrease in transition temperature. The fitting of current density to double exponential model confirms possibility of two gap superconductivity in Mo8Ga41.
