The spectrum of hadrons is the manifestation of color confinement of quantum chromodynamics. Hadronic resonances correspond to poles of the S-matrix. Since 2003, lots of new hadron resonant structures were discovered in the mass regions from light mesons to hadrons containing a pair of a heavy quark and an antiquark. Many of them are candidates of exotic hadrons, and they are usually observed as peaks in invariant mass distributions. However, the S-matrix also has kinematical singularities due to the on-shellness of intermediate particles for a process, such as two-body thresholds and triangle singularities, and they can produce peaks as well. On the one hand, such singularities may be misidentified as resonances; on the other hand, they can be used as tools for precision measurements. In this paper, we review the threshold cusps and various triangle singularities in hadronic reactions, paying attention to their manifestations in phenomena related to exotic hadron candidates.

Understanding the nature of the hidden charm pentaquark(like) signals in the LHCb data for $Lambda_b^0to J/psi p K^-$ is a central problem of hadron spectroscopy. We propose a scenario completely different from previous ones such as hadron molecules and compact pentaquarks. We identify relevant double triangle mechanisms with leading or lower-order singularities. The associated anomalous threshold cusps at the $Sigma_c^{(*)}bar{D}^{(*)}$ thresholds are significantly more singular than the ordinary ones. Then we demonstrate that the double triangle amplitudes reproduce the peak structures of $P_c(4312)^+$, $P_c(4380)^+$, and $P_c(4457)^+$ in the LHCb data, through an interference with other common mechanisms. Only the $P_c(4440)^+$ peak is due to a resonance with width and strength significantly smaller than previously estimated. $P_c^+$ signals are expected in other processes and the proposed model (partly) explains the current data such as: the GlueX $J/psi$ photoproduction data with no $P_c^+$ signals; the LHCb $Lambda_b^0to J/psi p pi^-$ data with a possible signal only from $P_c(4440)^+$. The double triangle singularity is now a possible option to interpret resonancelike structures near thresholds in general.
We investigate the anomalous triangle singularity (ATS) and its possible manifestations in various processes. We show that the ATS should have important impact on our understanding of the nature of some newly observed threshold states. Discussions on how to distinguish the ATS phenomena from genuine dynamic pole structures are presented.

We show that the large corrections due to final state interactions (FSI) in the D^+to pi^-pi^+pi^+, D^+_sto pi^-pi^+pi^+, and D^+to K^-pi^+pi^+ decays can be accounted for by invoking scattering amplitudes in agreement with those derived from phase shifts studies. In this way, broad/overlapping resonances in S-waves are properly treated and the phase motions of the transition amplitudes are driven by the corresponding scattering matrix elements determined in many other experiments. This is an important step forward in resolving the puzzle of the FSI in these decays. We also discuss why the sigma and kappa resonances, hardly visible in scattering experiments, are much more prominent and clearly visible in these decays without destroying the agreement with the experimental pipi and Kpi low energy S-wave phase shifts.

We compute the total top-quark pair production cross section at the Tevatron and LHC based on approximate NNLO results, and on the summation of threshold logarithms and Coulomb enhancements to all orders with next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy, including bound-state effects. We find sigma_{tbar t} = 7.22^{+0.31+0.71}_{-0.47-0.55} pb at Tevatron and sigma_{tbar t} = 162.6^{+7.4+15.4}_{-7.6-14.7} pb at LHC with 7 TeV c.o.m. energy, for m_t=173.3 GeV. The implementation of joint soft and Coulomb resummation, its ambiguities, and the present theoretical uncertainty are discussed in detail. We further obtain new approximate results at N3LO.
We predict that triangle singularities of hadron spectroscopy can be strongly affected in heavy ion collisions. To do it we examine various effects on the singularity-inducing triangle loop of finite temperature in the terminal hadron phase. It appears that peaks seen in central heavy ion collisions are more likely to be hadrons than rescattering effects under two conditions. First, the flight-time of the intermediate hadron state must be comparable to the lifetime of the equilibrated fireball (else, the reaction mostly happens in vacuo after freeze out). Second, the medium effect over the triangle-loop particle mass or width must be sizeable. When these (easily checked) conditions are met, the medium quickly reduces the singularity: at T about 150 MeV, even by two orders of magnitude, acting then as a spectroscopic filter.
