We study dimensional reductions of M-theory/type II strings down to 6D in the presence of fluxes and spacetime filling branes and orientifold planes of different types. We classify all inequivalent orientifold projections giving rise to $mathcal{N}=(1,1)$ supergravities in 6D and work out the embedding tensor/fluxes dictionary for each of those. Finally we analyze the set of vacua for the different classes of reductions and find an abundance of no-scale type Minkowski vacua, as well as a few novel examples of (A)dS extrema.

We investigate exotic supergravity theories in 6D with maximal (4,0) and (3,1) supersymmetry, which were conjectured by C. Hull to exist and to describe strong coupling limits of ${cal N}=8$ theories in 5D. These theories involve exotic gauge fields with non-standard Young tableaux representations, subject to (self-)duality constraints. We give novel actions in a 5+1 split of coordinates whose field equations reproduce those of the free bosonic (4,0) and (3,1) theory, respectively, including the (self-)duality relations. Evidence is presented for a master exceptional field theory formulation with an extended section constraint that, depending on the solution, produces the (4,0), (3,1) or the conventional (2,2) theory. We comment on the possible construction of a fully non-linear master exceptional field theory.

We use the results of hep-th/0007174 on the simple current classification of open unoriented CFTs to construct half supersymmetry preserving crosscap states for rational Calabi-Yau compactifications. We show that the corresponding orientifold fixed planes obey the BPS-like relation M=exp(i*phi)Q. To prove this relation, it is essential that the worldsheet CFT properly includes the degrees of freedom from the uncompactified space-time component. The BPS-phase phi can be identified with the automorphism type of the crosscap states. To illustrate the method we compute crosscap states in Gepner models with each k_i odd.

We consider classes of T_6 orientifolds, where the orientifold projection contains an inversion I_{9-p} on 9-p coordinates, transverse to a Dp-brane. In absence of fluxes, the massless sector of these models corresponds to diverse forms of N=4 supergravity, with six bulk vector multiplets coupled to N=4 Yang--Mills theory on the branes. They all differ in the choice of the duality symmetry corresponding to different embeddings of SU(1,1)times SO(6,6+n) in Sp(24+2n,R), the latter being the full group of duality rotations. Hence, these Lagrangians are not related by local field redefinitions. When fluxes are turned on one can construct new gaugings of N=4 supergravity, where the twelve bulk vectors gauge some nilpotent algebra which, in turn, depends on the choice of fluxes.
Maximal and non-maximal supergravities in three spacetime dimensions allow for a large variety of semisimple and non-semisimple gauge groups, as well as complex gauge groups that have no analog in higher dimensions. In this contribution we review the recent progress in constructing these theories and discuss some of their possible applications.
We obtain Yang-Mills $SU(2)times G$ gauged supergravity in three dimensions from $SU(2)$ group manifold reduction of (1,0) six dimensional supergravity coupled to an anti-symmetric tensor multiplet and gauge vector multiplets in the adjoint of $G$. The reduced theory is consistently truncated to $N=4$ 3D supergravity coupled to $4(1+textrm{dim}, G)$ bosonic and $4(1+textrm{dim}, G)$ fermionic propagating degrees of freedom. This is in contrast to the reduction in which there are also massive vector fields. The scalar manifold is $mathbf{R}times frac{SO(3,, textrm{dim}, G)}{SO(3)times SO(textrm{dim}, G)}$, and there is a $SU(2)times G$ gauge group. We then construct $N=4$ Chern-Simons $(SO(3)ltimes mathbf{R}^3)times (Gltimes mathbf{R}^{textrm{dim}G})$ three dimensional gauged supergravity with scalar manifold $frac{SO(4,,1+textrm{dim}G)}{SO(4)times SO(1+textrm{dim}G)}$ and explicitly show that this theory is on-shell equivalent to the Yang-Mills $SO(3)times G$ gauged supergravity theory obtained from the $SU(2)$ reduction, after integrating out the scalars and gauge fields corresponding to the translational symmetries $mathbf{R}^3times mathbf{R}^{textrm{dim}, G}$.
