We study interacting massive spin-1 theories in de Sitter (dS) and anti-de Sitter (AdS) space that possess shift symmetries parametrized by (A)dS Killing vectors. We show how they emerge from the massless limit of massive spin-2 theories on (A)dS space. In the case of massive gravity, the corresponding spin-1 theory realizes a symmetry breaking pattern that takes two copies of the (A)dS isometry group down to a diagonal subgroup. By taking the flat space limit of this theory, we find a new symmetry of the decoupling limit of massive gravity in flat space. This symmetry acts on the vector modes, is parametrized by an antisymmetric tensor, and fixes the nonlinear structure of the scalar-vector sector of the decoupling limit.

Shift-symmetric Horndeski theories admit an interesting class of Schwarzschild black hole solutions exhibiting time-dependent scalar hair. By making use of Lema^{i}tre coordinates, we analyze perturbations around these types of black holes, and demonstrate that scalar perturbations around black hole backgrounds inevitably have gradient instabilities. Taken together with previously established results, this newly-discovered instability rules out black holes with time-dependent scalar hair in Horndeski theories.
We show that a certain class of nonlocal scalar models, with a kinetic operator inspired by string field theory, is equivalent to a system which is local in the coordinates but nonlocal in an auxiliary evolution variable. This system admits both Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations, and its Cauchy problem and quantization are well-defined. We classify exact nonperturbative solutions of the localized model which can be found via the diffusion equation governing the fields.
Pure gauge theories for de Sitter, anti de Sitter and orthogonal groups, in four-dimensional Euclidean spacetime, are studied. It is shown that, if the theory is asymptotically free and a dynamical mass is generated, then an effective geometry may be induced and a gravity theory emerges.

A class of noncanonical effective potentials is introduced allowing stable, radially symmetric, solutions to first order Bogomolnyi equations for a real scalar field in a fixed spacetime background. This class of effective potentials generalizes those found previously by Bazeia, Menezes, and Menezes [Phys.Rev.Lett. 91 (2003) 241601] for radially symmetric defects in a flat spacetime. Use is made of the on-shell method introduced by Atmaja and Ramadhan [Phys.Rev.D 90 (2014) 10, 105009] of reducing the second order equation of motion to a first order one, along with a constraint equation. This method and class of potentials admits radially symmetric, stable solutions for four dimensional static, radially symmetric spacetimes. Stability against radial fluctuations is established with a modified version of Derricks theorem, along with demonstrating that the radial stress vanishes. Several examples of scalar field configurations are given.
Attempts at constraining theories of late time accelerated expansion often assume broad priors for the parameters in their phenomenological description. Focusing on shift-symmetric scalar-tensor theories with standard gravitational wave speed, we show how a more careful analysis of their dynamical evolution leads to much narrower priors. In doing so, we propose a simple and accurate parametrisation of these theories, capturing the redshift dependence of the equation of state, $w(z)$, and the kinetic braiding parameter, $alpha_{rm B}(z)$, with only two parameters each, and derive their statistical distribution (a.k.a. theoretical priors) that fit the cosmology of the underlying model.
