Can normal science-in the Kuhnian sense-add something substantial to the discussion about the measurement problem? Does an extended Wigners-friend Gedankenexperiment illustrate new issues? Or a new quality of known issues? Are we led to new interpretations, new perspectives, or do we iterate the previously known? The recent debate does, as we argue, neither constitute a turning point in the discussion about the measurement problem nor fundamentally challenge the legitimacy of quantum mechanics. Instead, the measurement problem asks for a reflection on fundamental paradigms of doing physics.

The term measurement in quantum theory (as well as in other physical theories) is ambiguous: It is used to describe both an experience - e.g., an observation in an experiment - and an interaction with the system under scrutiny. If doing physics is regarded as a creative activity to develop a meaningful description of the world, then one has to carefully discriminate between the two notions: An observers account of experience - consitutive to meaning - is hardly expressed exhaustively by the formal framework of an interaction within one particular theory. We develop a corresponding perspective onto central terms in quantum mechanics in general, and onto the measurement problem in particular.

In order to reject the notion that information is always about something, the It from Bit idea relies on the nonexistence of a realistic framework that might underly quantum theory. This essay develops the case that there is a plausible underlying reality: one actual spacetime-based history, although with behavior that appears strange when analyzed dynamically (one time-slice at a time). By using a simple model with no dynamical laws, it becomes evident that this behavior is actually quite natural when analyzed all-at-once (as in classical statistical mechanics). The It from Bit argument against a spacetime-based reality must then somehow defend the importance of dynamical laws, even as it denies a reality on which such fundamental laws could operate.

Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) provides a method for secret communication whose security does not rely on trusted measurement devices. In all existing MDI-QKD protocols, the participant Charlie has to perform the Bell state measurement or other joint measurements. Here we propose an MDI-QKD protocol which requires individual measurements only. Meanwhile, all operations of the receiver Bob are classical, without the need for preparing and measuring quantum systems. Thus the implementation of the protocol has a lower technical requirement on Bob and Charlie.
For successful deployment of deep neural networks on highly--resource-constrained devices (hearing aids, earbuds, wearables), we must simplify the types of operations and the memory/power resources used during inference. Completely avoiding inference-time floating-point operations is one of the simplest ways to design networks for these highly-constrained environments. By discretizing both our in-network non-linearities and our network weights, we can move to simple, compact networks without floating point operations, without multiplications, and avoid all non-linear function computations. Our approach allows us to explore the spectrum of possible networks, ranging from fully continuo

A new scheme of Quantum Key Distribution is proposed using three entangled particles in a GHZ state. Alice holds a 3-particle source and sends two particles to Bob, keeping one with herself. Bob uses one particle to generate a secure key, and the other to generate a master-key. This scheme should prove to be harder to break in non-ideal situations as compared to the standard protocols BB84 and Eckert. The scheme uses the concept of Quantum Disentanglement Eraser. Extension to multi-partite scheme has also been investigated.
