In this note, we describe how collections of arbitrary numbers of BC-bits, distinct non-interacting quantum systems each consisting of a holographic boundary conformal field theory (BCFT), can be placed in multipartite entangled states in order to encode single connected bulk spacetimes that approximate geometries dual to holographic CFT states. The BC-bit version of a holographic CFT state corresponds to a geometry that can be made arbitrarily similar to the associated CFT-state geometry within a causal diamond region defined by points that are spacelike separated from the boundary time slice at which the state is defined. These holographic multi BC-bit states can be well-represented by tensor networks in which the individual tensors are associated with states of small numbers of BC-bits.

Quantum corrections to holographic entanglement entropy require knowledge of the bulk quantum state. In this paper, we derive a novel dual prescription for the generalized entropy that allows us to interpret the leading quantum corrections in a geometric way with minimal input from the bulk state. The equivalence is proven using tools borrowed from convex optimization. The new prescription does not involve bulk surfaces but instead uses a generalized notion of a flow, which allows for possible sources or sinks in the bulk geometry. In its discrete version, our prescription can alternatively be interpreted in terms of a set of Planck-thickness bit threads, which can be either classical or quantum. This interpretation uncovers an aspect of the generalized entropy that admits a neat information-theoretic description, namely, the fact that the quantum corrections can be cast in terms of entanglement distillation of the bulk state. We also prove some general properties of our prescription, including nesting and a quantum version of the max multiflow theorem. These properties are used to verify that our proposal respects known inequalities that a von Neumann entropy must satisfy, including subadditivity and strong subadditivity, as well as to investigate the fate of the holographic monogamy. Finally, using the Iyer-Wald formalism we show that for cases with a local modular Hamiltonian there is always a canonical solution to the program that exploits the property of bulk locality. Combining with previous results by Swingle and Van Raamsdonk, we show that the consistency of this special solution requires the semi-classical Einsteins equations to hold for any consistent perturbative bulk quantum state.
We explore holographic entanglement entropy for Minkowski spacetime in three and four dimensions. Under some general assumptions on the putative holographic dual, the entanglement entropy associated to a special class of subregions can be computed using an analog of the Ryu-Takayanagi formula. We refine the existing prescription in three dimensions and propose a generalization to four dimensions. Under reasonable assumptions on the holographic stress tensor, we show that the first law of entanglement is equivalent to the gravitational equations of motion in the bulk, linearized around Minkowski spacetime.
We propose that finite cutoff regions of holographic spacetimes represent quantum circuits that map between boundary states at different times and Wilsonian cutoffs, and that the complexity of those quantum circuits is given by the gravitational action. The optimal circuit minimizes the gravitational action. This is a generalization of both the complexity equals volume conjecture to unoptimized circuits, and path integral optimization to finite cutoffs. Using tools from holographic $Tbar T$, we find that surfaces of constant scalar curvature play a special role in optimizing quantum circuits. We also find an interesting connection of our proposal to kinematic space, and discuss possible circuit representations and gate counting interpretations of the gravitational action.
Quantum entanglement of the Minkowski vacuum state between left and right Rindler wedges generates thermal behavior in the right Rindler wedge, which is known as the Unruh effect. In this letter, we show that there is another consequence of this entanglement, namely entanglement-induced quantum radiation emanating from a uniformly accelerated object. We clarify why it is in agreement with our intuition that incoming and outgoing energy fluxes should cancel each other out in a thermalized state.
We report a non-trivial feature of the vacuum structure of free massive or massless Dirac fields in the hyperbolic de Sitter spacetime. Here we have two causally disconnected regions, say $R$ and $L$ separated by another region, $C$. We are interested in the field theory in $Rcup L$ to understand the long range quantum correlations between $R$ and $L$. There are local modes of the Dirac field having supports individually either in $R$ or $L$, as well as global modes found via analytically continuing the $R$ modes to $L$ and vice versa. However, we show that unlike the case of a scalar field, the analytic continuation does not preserve the orthogonality of the resulting global modes. Accordingly, we need to orthonormalise them following the Gram-Schmidt prescription, prior to the field quantisation in order to preserve the canonical anti-commutation relations. We observe that this prescription naturally incorporates a spacetime independent continuous parameter, $theta_{rm RL}$, into the picture. Thus interestingly, we obtain a naturally emerging one-parameter family of $alpha$-like de Sitter vacua. The values of $theta_{rm RL}$ yielding the usual thermal spectra of massless created particles are pointed out. Next, using these vacua, we investigate both entanglement and Renyi entropies of either of the regions and demonstrate their dependence on $theta_{rm RL}$.
