V350 Sgr is a classical Cepheid suitable for mass determination. It has a hot companion which is prominent in the ultraviolet and which is not itself a binary. We have obtained two high resolution echelle spectra of the companion at orbital velocity maximum and minimum with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) in the 1320 to 1510 AA/ region. By cross-correlating these spectra we obtained the orbital velocity amplitude of the companion with an uncertainty in the companion amplitude of 1.9 km sec$^{-1}$. This provides a mass ratio of the Cepheid to the companion of 2.1. The ultraviolet energy distribution of the companion provides the mass of the companion, yielding a Cepheid mass of 5.2 $pm$ 0.3 M$_odot$. This mass requires some combination of moderate main sequence core convective overshoot and rotation to match evolutionary tracks.

We have obtained spectra of the W Sgr system with the STIS spectrograph on the Hubble Space Telescope. The spectra resolve the system into a distant companion B which is the hottest star in the system and the spectroscopic binary (A = Aa + Ab). A and B are separated by 0.16. We have extracted the spectra of both of these. We see no flux in the Aa + Ab spectrum which cannot be accounted for by the Cepheid, and put an upper limit on the spectral type and mass of the companion Ab of F5 V and $leq$1.4Msun. Using the orbit from HST FGS measurements from Benedict, et al., this results in an upper limit to the mass of the Cepheid of $leq$5.4Msun. We also discuss two possible distant companions. Based on photometry from the 2MASS Point Source Catalog, they are not physical companions of the W Sgr system.
Optical-infrared interferometry can provide direct geometrical measurements of the radii of Cepheids and/or reveal unknown binary companions of these stars. Such information is of great importance for a proper calibration of Period-Luminosity relations and for determining binary fraction among Cepheids. We observed the Cepheid X Sgr with VLTI/AMBER in order to confirm or disprove the presence of the hypothesized binary companion and to directly measure the mean stellar radius, possibly detecting its variation along the pulsation cycle. From AMBER observations in MR mode we performed a binary model fitting on the closure phase and a limb-darkened model fitting on the visibility. Our analysis indicates the presence of a point-like companion at a separation of 10.7 mas and 5.6 magK fainter than the primary, whose flux and position are sharply constrained by the data. The radius pulsation is not detected, whereas the average limb-darkened diameter results to be 1.48+/-0.08 mas, corresponding to 53+/-3 R_sun at a distance of 333.3 pc.
New photometric data from CCD UBVRI observations of the PMS star V350 Cep during the period from March 2014 to May 2017 are presented. In the period April-May 2016 we registered a deep fades event in the brightness of the star with amplitudes $Delta I$ = 1.75 mag, $Delta R$ = 1.69 mag, $Delta V$ = 1.77 mag and $Delta B$ = 2.16 mag. Simultaneously with the fades in the brightness, the change in the stars color indices has been observed. V350 Cep indicates the typical for stars of UXor type blueing effect during the deep minimum of brightness. During the second half of 2016 V350 Cep restores its brightness to a level close to the maximum. Since the star has been studied as a possible FUor object in previous studies, the possible cause of the deep decline is a decrease in the accretion rate. Another possible cause is obscuration from clumps of dust orbiting at the vicinity of the star.
A previously-derived photometric parallax of 10.10+-0.20 mas, d=99+-2 pc, is confirmed for Polaris by a spectroscopic parallax derived using line ratios in high dispersion spectra for the Cepheid. The resulting estimates for the mean luminosity of <Mv>=-3.07+-0.01 s.e., average effective temperature of <Teff>=6025+-1 K s.e., and intrinsic color of (<B>-<V>)o=0.56+-0.01 s.e., which match values obtained previously from the photometric parallax for a space reddening of E(B-V)=0.02+-0.01, are consistent with fundamental mode pulsation for Polaris and a first crossing of the instability strip, as also argued by its rapid rate of period increase. The systematically smaller Hipparcos parallax for Polaris appears discrepant by comparison.
V473 Lyr is a classical Cepheid which is unique in having substantial amplitude variations with a period of approximately 3.3 years, thought to be similar to the Blazhko variations in RR Lyrae stars. We obtained an {it XMM-Newton} observation of this star to followup a previous detection in X-rays. Rather than the X-ray burst and rapid decline near maximum radius seen in $delta$ Cephei itself, the X-ray flux in V473 Lyr remained constant for a third of the pulsation cycle covered by the observation. Thus the X-rays are most probably not produced by the changes around the pulsation cycle. The X-ray spectrum is soft (kT = 0.6 keV), with X-ray properties which are consistent with a young low mass companion. Previously there was no evidence of a companion in radial velocities or in {it Gaia} and {it Hipparcos} proper motions. While this rules out companions which are very close or very distant, a binary companion at a separation between 30 and 300 AU is possible. This is an example of an X-ray observation revealing evidence of a low mass companion, which is important in completing the mass ratio statistics of binary Cepheids. Furthermore, the detection of a young X-ray bright companion is a further indication that the Cepheid (primary) is a Population I star, even though its pulsation behavior differs from other classical Cepheids.
