Progress in understanding of giant planet formation has been hampered by a lack of observational constraints to growing protoplanets. Recently, detection of an H{alpha}-emission excess via direct imaging was reported for the protoplanet LkCa15b orbiting the pre-main-sequence star LkCa15. However, the physical mechanism for the H{alpha} emission is poorly understood. According to recent high-resolution three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of the flow accreting onto protoplanets, the disk gas flows down almost vertically onto and collides with the surface of a circum-planetary disk at a super-sonic velocity and thus passes through a strong shockwave. The shock-heated gas is hot enough to generate H{alpha} emission. Here we develop a one-dimensional radiative hydrodynamic model of the flow after the shock by detailed calculations of chemical reactions and electron transitions in hydrogen atoms, and quantify the hydrogen line emission in the Lyman-, Balmer-, and Paschen-series from the accreting gas giant system. We then demonstrate that the H{alpha} intensity is strong enough to be detected with current observational technique. Comparing our theoretical H{alpha} intensity with the observed one from LkCa15b, we constrain the protoplanet mass and the disk gas density. Observation of hydrogen line emission from protoplanets is highly encouraged to obtain direct constraints of accreting gas giants, which will be key in understanding the formation of gas giants.

The ubiquity of planets and diversity of planetary systems reveal planet formation encompass many complex and competing processes. In this series of papers, we develop and upgrade a population synthesis model as a tool to identify the dominant physical effects and to calibrate the range of physical conditions. Recent planet searches leads to the discovery of many multiple-planet systems. Any theoretical models of their origins must take into account dynamical interaction between emerging protoplanets. Here, we introduce a prescription to approximate the close encounters between multiple planets. We apply this method to simulate the growth, migration, and dynamical interaction of planetary systems. Our models show that in relatively massive disks, several gas giants and rocky/icy planets emerge, migrate, and undergo dynamical instability. Secular perturbation between planets leads to orbital crossings, eccentricity excitation, and planetary ejection. In disks with modest masses, two or less gas giants form with multiple super-Earths. Orbital stability in these systems is generally maintained and they retain the kinematic structure after gas in their natal disks is depleted. These results reproduce the observed planetary mass-eccentricity and semimajor axis-eccentricity correlations. They also suggest that emerging gas giants can scatter residual cores to the outer disk regions. Subsequent in situ gas accretion onto these cores can lead to the formation of distant (> 30AU) gas giants with nearly circular orbits.

We calculated hydrogen recombination line luminosities (H-$alpha$, Paschen-$beta$ and Brackett-$gamma$) from three dimensional thermo-hydrodynamical simulations of forming planets from 1 to 10 Jupiter-masses. We explored various opacities to estimate the line emissions with extinction in each cases assuming boundary layer accretion. When realistic opacities are considered, only lines from planets $ge$10 Jupiter-mass can be detected with current instrumentation, highlighting that from most planets one cannot expect detectable emission. This might explain the very low detection rate of H-$alpha$ from forming planets from observations. While the line emission comes from both the forming planet and its circumplanetary disk, we found that only the disk component could be detected due to extinction. We examined the line variability as well, and found that it is higher for higher mass planets. Furthermore, we determine for the first time, the parametric relationship between the mass of the planet and the luminosity of the hydrogen recombination lines, as well as the equation between the accretion luminosity and hydrogen recombination line luminosities.
Comets are the most primordial objects in our solar system which are made of icy bodies. Comets used to release gas and dust when it moves close to the Sun. The C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) is a large periodic comet that is moving in a near-parabolic orbit. The C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) is the brightest comet in the northern hemisphere after comet Hale-Bopp in 1997. Here we present the first interferometric high-resolution detection of the comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). The observational frequency range is 1050$-$1450 MHz. We detect the radio continuum emission from this comet with flux density level 2.8$-$3.4 mJy between the frequency range 1050--1450 MHz. We also detect atomic HI absorption line at $ u$ = 1420 MHz ($sim$5$sigma$ significance) with column density $N(textrm {HI}) = (1.8 pm 0.09)times 10^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$. The continuum emission from the comet in meter wavelength arises from the large Icy Grains Halo (IGH) region. Significant detection of C/2020 F3 in $sim$21 cm indicates the presence of large size of particles in the coma region of the comet.

We present the first measurement of planet frequency beyond the snow line for planet/star mass-ratios[-4.5<log q<-2]: d^2 N/dlog q/dlog s=(0.36+-0.15)/dex^2 at mean mass ratio q=5e-4, and consistent with being flat in log projected separation, s. Our result is based on a sample of 6 planets detected from intensive follow-up of high-mag (A>200) microlensing events during 2005-8. The sample host stars have typical mass M_host 0.5 Msun, and detection is sensitive to planets over a range of projected separations (R_E/s_max,R_E*s_max), where R_E 3.5 AU sqrt(M_host/Msun) is the Einstein radius and s_max (q/5e-5)^{2/3}, corresponding to deprojected separations ~3 times the snow line. Though frenetic, the observations constitute a controlled experiment, which permits measurement of absolute planet frequency. High-mag events are rare, but the high-mag channel is efficient: half of high-mag events were successfully monitored and half of these yielded planet detections. The planet frequency derived from microlensing is a factor 7 larger than from RV studies at factor ~25 smaller separations [2<P<2000 days]. However, this difference is basically consistent with the gradient derived from RV studies (when extrapolated well beyond the separations from which it is measured). This suggests a universal separation distribution across 2 dex in semi-major axis, 2 dex in mass ratio, and 0.3 dex in host mass. Finally, if all planetary systems were analogs of the Solar System, our sample would have yielded 18.2 planets (11.4 Jupiters, 6.4 Saturns, 0.3 Uranuses, 0.2 Neptunes) including 6.1 systems with 2 or more planet detections. This compares to 6 planets including one 2-planet system in the actual sample, implying a first estimate of 1/6 for the frequency of solar-like systems.
The physical state and properties of silicates at conditions encountered in the cores of gas giants, ice giants and of Earth like exoplanets now discovered with masses up to several times the mass of the Earth remains mostly unknown. Here, we report on theoretical predictions of the properties of silica, SiO$_2$, up to 4 TPa and about 20,000K using first principle molecular dynamics simulations based on density functional theory. For conditions found in the Super-Earths and in ice giants, we show that silica remains a poor electrical conductor up to 10 Mbar due to an increase in the Si-O coordination with pressure. For Jupiter and Saturn cores, we find that MgSiO$_3$ silicate has not only dissociated into MgO and SiO$_2$, as shown in previous studies, but that these two phases have likely differentiated to lead to a core made of liquid SiO$_2$ and solid (Mg,Fe)O.
