Aiming at relativistic description of gluons in hadrons, the renormalization group procedure for effective particles (RGPEP) is applied to baryons in QCD of heavy quarks. The baryon eigenvalue problem is posed using the Fock-space Hamiltonian operator obtained by solving the RGPEP equations up to second order in powers of the coupling constant. The eigenstate components that contain three quarks and two or more gluons are heuristically removed at the price of inserting a gluon-mass term in the component with one gluon. The resulting problem is reduced to the equivalent one for the component of three quarks and no gluons. Each of the three quark-quark interaction terms thus obtained consists of a spin-dependent Coulomb term and a spin-independent harmonic oscillator term. Quark masses are chosen to fit the lightest spin-one quarkonia masses most accurately. The resulting estimates for bbb and ccc states match estimates obtained in lattice QCD and in quark models. Masses of ccb and bbc states are also estimated. The corresponding wave functions are invariant with respect to boosts. In the ccb states, charm quarks tend to form diquarks. The accuracy of our approximate Hamiltonian can be estimated through comparison by including components with two gluons within the same method.

In response to the growing need for theoretical tools that can be used in QCD to describe and understand the dynamics of gluons in hadrons in the Minkowski space-time, the renormalization group procedure for effective particles (RGPEP) is shown in the simplest available context of heavy quarkonia to exhibit a welcome degree of universality in the first approximation it yields once one assumes that beyond perturbation theory gluons obtain effective mass. Namely, in the second-order terms, the Coulomb potential with Breit-Fermi spin couplings in the effective quark-antiquark component of a heavy quarkonium, is corrected in one-flavor QCD by a spin-independent harmonic oscillator term that does not depend on the assumed effective gluon mass or the choice of the RGPEP generator. The new generator we use here is much simpler than the ones used before and has the advantage of being suitable for studies of the effective gluon dynamics at higher orders than the second and beyond the perturbative expansion.

We extract directly (for the first time) the charmed (C=1) and bottom (B=-1) heavy-baryons (spin 1/2 and 3/2) mass-splittings due to SU(3) breaking using double ratios of QCD spectral sum rules (QSSR) in full QCD, which are less sensitive to the exact value and definition of the heavy quark mass, to the perturbative radiative corrections and to the QCD continuum contributions than the simple ratios commonly used for determining the heavy baryon masses. Noticing that most of the mass-splittings are mainly controlled by the ratio kappa= <bar ss>/<bar dd> of the condensate, we extract this ratio, by allowing 1 sigma deviation from the observed masses of the Xi_{c,b} and of the Omega_c. We obtain: kappa=0.74(3), which improves the existing estimates: kappa=0.70(10) from light hadrons. Using this value, we deduce M_{Omega_b}=6078.5(27.4) MeV which agrees with the recent CDF data but disagrees by 2.4 sigma with the one from D0. Predictions of the Xi_Q and of the spectra of spin 3/2 baryons containing one or two strange quark are given in Table 2. Predictions of the hyperfine splittings Omega*_Q- Omega_Q and Xi*_Q-Xi_Q are also given in Table 3. Starting for a general choice of the interpolating currents for the spin 1/2 baryons, our analysis favours the optimal value of the mixing angle b= (-1/5 -- 0) found from light and non-strange heavy baryons.
We evaluate the strangeness-conserving $N N$, $SigmaSigma$, $XiXi$, $LambdaSigma$ and the strangeness-changing $Lambda N$, $Sigma N$, $LambdaXi$, $SigmaXi$ axial charges in lattice QCD with two flavors of dynamical quarks and extend our previous work on pseudoscalar-meson-octet-baryon coupling constants so as to include $piXiXi$, $KLambdaXi$ and $KSigmaXi$ coupling constants. We find that the axial charges have rather weak quark-mass dependence and the breaking in SU(3)-flavor symmetry is small at each quark-mass point we consider.

The magnetic moments of the negative parity, spin-1/2 baryons containing single heavy quark are calculated. The pollution that occur from the transitions between positive and negative parity baryons are removed by constructing the sum rules from different Lorentz structures.
The transition form factors responsible for the radiative $Sigma_Q to Lambda_Q gamma$ and $Xi_Q^prime to Xi gamma$ decays of the negative parity baryons are examined within light cone QCD sum rules. The decay widths of the radiative transitions are calculated using the obtained results of the form factors.
