Interferometry is an indispensable tool across all the natural sciences. Recently, a new type of interferometer based on phase-sensitive Fano resonances has been proposed and implemented. In these Fano interferometers, the two arms are formed by a spectrally broad continuum channel, and a spectrally narrow resonant bound state scattering channel, respectively. We show that the textbook relation between interference visibility and coherence known from double-slit- or Mach-Zehnder-interferometers does not apply to Fano interferometers, because the physical origin of the interference extrema is different. We then show how instead the asymmetry of Fano spectra can be exploited to quantify coherence in Fano interferometers.

The interference observed for a quanton, traversing more than one path, is believed to characterize its wave nature. Conventionally, the sharpness of interference has been quantified by its visibility or contrast, as defined in optics. Based on this visibility, wave-particle duality relations have been formulated for two-path interference. However, as one generalizes the situation to multi-path interference, it is found that conventional interference visibility is not a good quantifier. A recently introduced measure of quantum coherence has been shown to be a good quantifier of the wave nature. The subject of quantum coherence, in relation to the wave nature of quantons and to interference visibility, is reviewed here. It is argued that coherence can be construed as a more general form of interference visibility, if the visibility is measured in a different manner, and not as contrast.
We consider theoretically an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer constructed from quantum Hall edge channels and quantum point contacts, fed with single electrons from a dynamic quantum dot source. By considering the energy dependence of the edge-channel guide centres, we give an account of the phase averaging in this set up that is particularly relevant for the short, high-energy wavepackets injected by this type of electron source. We present both analytic and numerical results for the energy-dependent arrival time distributions of the electrons and also give an analysis of the delay times associated with the quantum point contacts and their effects on the interference patterns. A key finding is that, contrary to expectation, maximum visibility requires the interferometer arms to be different in length, with an offset of up to a micron for typical parameters. By designing interferometers that incorporate this asymmetry in their geometry, phase-averaging effects can be overcome such that visibility is only limited by other incoherent mechanisms.
The definition of accessible coherence is proposed. Through local measurement on the other subsystem and one way classical communication, a subsystem can access more coherence than the coherence of its density matrix. Based on the local accessible coherence, the part that can not be locally accessed is also studied, which we call it remaining coherence. We study how the bipartite coherence is distributed by partition for both l1 norm coherence and relative entropy coherence, and the expressions for local accessible coherence and remaining coherence are derived. we also study some examples to illustrate the distribution.

A new type of quantum entangled interferometer was recently realized that employs parametric amplifiers as the wave splitting and recombination elements. The quantum entanglement stems from the parametric amplifiers, which produce quantum correlated fields for probing the phase change signal in the interferometer. This type of quantum entangled interferometer exhibits some unique properties that are different from traditional beam splitter-based interferometers such as Mach-Zehnder interferometers. Because of these properties, it is superior to the traditional interferometers in many aspects, especially in the phase measurement sensitivity. We will review its unique properties and applications in quantum metrology and sensing, quantum information, and quantum state engineering.
