We report the results of spectroscopic and photometric observations of the emission-line object AS 386. For the first time, we found that it exhibits the B[e] phenomenon and fits the definition of an FS CMa type object. The optical spectrum shows the presence of a B-type star with the following properties: T_ eff = 11000+/-500 K, log L/L_sun = 3.7+/-0.3, a mass of 7+/-1 M_sun, and a distance D = 2.4+/-0.3 kpc from the Sun. We detected regular radial velocity variations of both absorption and emission lines with the following orbital parameters: P_orb = 131.27+/-0.09 days, semi-amplitude K_1 = 51.7+/-3.0 km/s, systemic radial velocity gamma = -31.8+/-2.6 km/s, and a mass function of f(m) = 1.9+/-0.3 M_sun. AS 386 exhibits irregular variations of the optical brightness (V=10.92+/-0.05 mag), while the near-IR brightness varies up to ~0.3 mag following the spectroscopic period. We explain this behavior by a variable illumination of the dusty disk inner rim by the B-type component. Doppler tomography based on the orbital variations of emission-line profiles shows that the material is distributed near the B-type component and in a circumbinary disk. We conclude that the system has undergone a strong mass transfer that created the circumstellar material and increased the B-type component mass. The absence of any traces of a secondary component, whose mass should be >= 7 M_sun, suggests that it is most likely a black hole.

FS CMa type stars are a group of Galactic objects with the B[e] phenomenon. They exhibit strong emission-line spectra and infrared excesses, which are most likely due to recently formed circumstellar dust. The group content and identification criteria were described in the first two papers of the series. In this paper we report our spectroscopic and photometric observations of the optical counterpart of IRAS 00470+6429 obtained in 2003--2008. The optical spectrum is dominated by emission lines, most of which have P Cyg type profiles. We detected significant brightness variations, which may include a regular component, and variable spectral line profiles in both shape and position. The presence of a weak Li {sc I} 6708 AA line in the spectrum suggests that the object is most likely a binary system with a B2--B3 spectral type primary companion of a luminosity $log$ L/L$odot$ = 3.9$pm$0.3 and a late-type secondary companion. We estimate a distance toward the object to be 2.0$pm$0.3 kpc from the Sun.
BG Gem is an eclipsing binary with a 91.6-day orbital period. The more massive primary component does not seem to show absorption lines in the spectrum, while the less massive secondary is thought to be a K-type star, possibly a supergiant. These results were obtained with optical low-resolution spectroscopy and photometry. The primary was suggested to be a black hole, although with a low confidence. We present a high-resolution optical spectrum of the system along with new BVR-photometry. Analysis of the spectrum shows that the K-type star rotates rapidly at v sin i = 18 km/s compared to most evolved stars of this temperature range. We also discuss constraints on the secondarys luminosity using spectroscopic criteria and on the entire system parameters using both the spectrum and photometry.
R144 is a WN6h star in the 30 Doradus region. It is suspected to be a binary because of its high luminosity and its strong X-ray flux, but no periodicity could be established so far. Here, we present new Xshooter multi-epoch spectroscopy of R144 obtained at the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT). We detect variability in position and/or shape of all the spectral lines. We measure radial velocity variations with an amplitude larger than 250 km/s in NIV and NV lines. Furthermore, the NIII and NV line Doppler shifts are anti-correlated and the NIV lines show a double-peaked profile on six of our seven epochs. We thus conclude that R144 is a double-lined spectroscopic binary. Possible orbital periods range from 2 to 6 months, although a period up to one year is allowed if the orbit is highly eccentric. We estimate the spectral types of the components to be WN5-6h and WN6-7h, respectively. The high luminosity of the system (log Lbol/Lsun ~ 6.8) suggests a present-day total mass content in the range of about 200 to 300 Msun, depending on the evolutionary stage of the components. This makes R144 the most massive binary identified so far, with a total mass content at birth possibly as large as 400 Msun. We briefly discuss the presence of such a massive object 60 pc away from the R136 cluster core in the context of star formation and stellar dynamics.
We report the results of high-resolution ($R sim 80,000$) spectroscopic observations of the emission-line object HD 85567, which has been classified as a FS CMa type object or a pre-main-sequence star. The main goal is to put more constraints on the objects fundamental parameters as well as on its nature and evolutionary state. Absorption lines in the spectrum of HD 85567 were found similar to those of mid B--type dwarfs and correspond to the following fundamental parameters: T$_{rm eff} = 15000pm500$ K, $v sin i = 31pm3$ km s$^{-1}$, $log g sim 4.0$. The interstellar extinction, A$_V$ $= 0.50pm0.02$ mag, was measured using the strengths of some diffuse interstellar bands. We also obtained $UBV(RI)_{rm c}$ images of a $10^{prime} times 10^{prime}$ region around the object. Photometry of projectionally close stars was used to derive an interstellar extinction law in this direction and resulted in a distance of 1300$pm$100 pc to the object and a luminosity of $log$ (L/L$_odot) = 3.3pm0.2$. We found no significant radial velocity variations of the absorption lines in the spectra of HD 85567 obtained during two month-long periods of time in 2012 and 2015. Our analysis of the spectroscopic and photometric data available for the star led us to a conclusion that it cannot be a pre-main-sequence Herbig Ae/Be star. We argue that the circumstellar gas and dust were produced during the objects evolution as most likely a binary system, which contains an undetected secondary component and is unlikely to be a merger product.

We identify SDSS J153636.22+044127.0, a QSO discovered in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, as a promising candidate for a binary black hole system. This QSO has two broad-line emission systems separated by 3500 km/sec. The redder system at z=0.3889 also has a typical set of narrow forbidden lines. The bluer system (z=0.3727) shows only broad Balmer lines and UV Fe II emission, making it highly unusual in its lack of narrow lines. A third system, which includes only unresolved absorption lines, is seen at a redshift, z=0.3878, intermediate between the two emission-line systems. While the observational signatures of binary nuclear black holes remain unclear, J1536+0441 is unique among all QSOs known in having two broad-line regions, indicative of two separate black holes presently accreting gas. The interpretation of this as a bound binary system of two black holes having masses of 10^8.9 and 10^7.3 solar masses, yields a separation of ~ 0.1 parsec and an orbital period of ~100 years. The separation implies that the two black holes are orbiting within a single narrow-line region, consistent with the characteristics of the spectrum. This object was identified as an extreme outlier of a Karhunen-Loeve Transform of 17,500 z < 0.7 QSO spectra from the SDSS. The probability of the spectrum resulting from a chance superposition of two QSOs with similar redshifts is estimated at 2X10^-7, leading to the expectation of 0.003 such objects in the sample studied; however, even in this case, the spectrum of the lower redshift QSO remains highly unusual.
