Hopf solitons in the Skyrme-Faddeev system on $R^3$ typically have a complicated structure, in particular when the Hopf number Q is large. By contrast, if we work on a compact 3-manifold M, and the energy functional consists only of the Skyrme term (the strong-coupling limit), then the picture simplifies. There is a topological lower bound $Egeq Q$ on the energy, and the local minima of E can look simple even for large Q. The aim here is to describe and investigate some of these solutions, when M is $S^3$, $T^3$ or $S^2 times S^1$. In addition, we review the more elementary baby-Skyrme system, with M being $S^2$ or $T^2$.

The $(4+4)$-dimensional $kappa$-deformed quantum phase space as well as its $(10+10)$-dimensional covariant extension by the Lorentz sector can be described as Heisenberg doubles: the $(10+10)$-dimensional quantum phase space is the double of $D=4$ $kappa$-deformed Poincare Hopf algebra $mathbb{H}$ and the standard $(4+4)$-dimensional space is its subalgebra generated by $kappa$-Minkowski coordinates $hat{x}_mu$ and corresponding commuting momenta $hat{p}_mu$. Every Heisenberg double appears as the total algebra of a Hopf algebroid over a base algebra which is in our case the coordinate sector. We exhibit the details of this structure, namely the corresponding right bialgebroid and the antipode map. We rely on algebraic methods of calculation in Majid-Ruegg bicrossproduct basis. The target map is derived from a formula by J-H. Lu. The coproduct takes values in the bimodule tensor product over a base, what is expressed as the presence of coproduct gauge freedom.
Deformation quantization conventionally is described in terms of multidifferential operators. Jet manifold technique is well-known provide the adequate formulation of theory of differential operators. We extended this formulation to the multidifferential ones, and consider their infinite order jet prolongation. The infinite order jet manifold is endowed with the canonical flat connection that provides the covariant formula of a deformation star-product.

It is shown that the causal structure associated to string-like solutions of the Fadeev-Niemi (FN) model is described by an effective metric. Remarkably, the surfaces characterising the causal replacement depend on the energy momentum tensor of the background soliton and carry implicitly a topological invariant $pi_{3}(mathbb{S}^2)$. As a consequence, it follows that the pre- image curves in $mathbb{R}^3$ nontrivialy define directions where the cones remain unchanged. It turns out that these results may be of importance in understanding time dependent solutions (collisions/scatterings) numerically or analytically.
We prove the Makeenko-Migdal equation for two-dimensional Euclidean Yang-Mills theory on an arbitrary compact surface, possibly with boundary. In particular, we show that two of the proofs given by the first, third, and fourth authors for the plane case extend essentially without change to compact surfaces.
We consider the focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation on a large class of rotationally symmetric, noncompact manifolds. We prove the existence of a solitary wave by perturbing off the flat Euclidean case. Furthermore, we study the stability of the solitary wave under radial perturbations by analyzing spectral properties of the associated linearized operator. Finally, in the L2-critical case, by considering the Vakhitov-Kolokolov criterion (see also results of Grillakis-Shatah-Strauss), we provide numerical evidence showing that the introduction of a nontrivial geometry destabilizes the solitary wave in a wide variety of cases, regardless of the curvature of the manifold. In particular, the parameters of the metric corresponding to standard hyperbolic space will lead to instability consistent with the blow-up results of Banica-Duyckaerts (2015). We also provide numerical evidence for geometries under which it would be possible for the Vakhitov-Kolokolov condition to suggest stability, provided certain spectral properties hold in these spaces
