We have investigated a brane world model in which the gravitational field in the bulk is described both by a metric tensor and a minimally coupled scalar field. This scalar field is taken to be a chameleon with an appropriate potential function. The scalar field interacts with matter and there is an energy transfer between the two components. We find a late-time asymptotic solution which exhibits late-time accelerating expansion. We also show that the Universe recently crosses the phantom barrier without recourse to any exotic matter. We provide some thermodynamic arguments which constrain both the direction of energy transfer and dynamics of the extra dimension.

Several aspects of scalar field dynamics on a brane which differs from corresponding regimes in the standard cosmology are investigated. We consider asymptotic solution near a singularity, condition for inflation and bounces and some detail of chaotic behavior in the brane model. Each results are compared with those known in the standard cosmology.
In this paper we study the corrections to the Friedmann equations due to fast fluctuations of the universe scale factor. Such fast quantum fluctuations were recently proposed as a potential solution of the cosmological constant problem. They also induce strong changes to the current sign and magnitude of the average cosmological force, thus making it one of the potential probable causes for the modification of Newtonian dynamics in galaxy-scale systems. It appears that quantum fluctuations of the scale factor also modify the Friedmann equations, leading to considerable modification of cosmological evolution. In particular, they give rise to late-time accelerated expansion of the universe, and they may also considerably modify the effective universe potential.
In the present article we study the cosmological evolution of a two-scalar field gravitational theory defined in the Jordan frame. Specifically, we assume one of the scalar fields to be minimally coupled to gravity, while the second field which is the Brans-Dicke scalar field is nonminimally coupled to gravity and also coupled to the other scalar field. In the Einstein frame this theory reduces to a two-scalar field theory where the two fields can interact only in the potential term, which means that the quintom theory is recovered. The cosmological evolution is studied by analyzing the equilibrium points of the field equations in the Jordan frame. We find that the theory can describe the cosmological evolution in large scales, while inflationary solutions are also provided.
A class of positive curvature spatially homogeneous but anisotropic cosmological models within an Einstein-aether gravitational framework are investigated. The matter source is assumed to be a scalar field which is coupled to the expansion of the aether field through a generalized exponential potential. The evolution equations are expressed in terms of expansion-normalized variables to produce an autonomous system of ordinary differential equations suitable for a numerical and qualitative analysis. An analysis of the local stability of the equilibrium points indicates that there exists a range of values of the parameters in which there exists an accelerating expansionary future attractor. In general relativity, scalar field models with an exponential potential $V=V_0e^{-2kphi}$ have a late-time inflationary attractor for $k^2<frac{1}{2}$; however, it is found that the existence of the coupling between the aether and scalar fields allows for arbitrarily large values of the parameter $k$.

The shear dynamics in Bianchi I cosmological model on the brane with a perfect fluid (the equation of state is $p=(gamma-1) mu$) is studied. It is shown that for $1 < gamma < 2$ the shear parameter has maximum at some moment during a transition period from nonstandard to standard cosmology. An exact formula for the matter density $mu$ in the epoch of maximum shear parameter as a function of the equation of state is obtained.
