In this paper, we present a reconfigurable hybrid Photonic-Plasmonic Network-on-Chip (NoC) based on the Dynamic Data Driven Application System (DDDAS) paradigm. In DDDAS computations and measurements form a dynamic closed feedback loop in which they tune one another in response to changes in the environment. Our proposed system enables dynamic augmentation of a base electrical mesh topology with an optical express bus during the run-time. In addition, the measurement process itself adjusts to the environment. In order to achieve lower latencies, lower dynamic power, and higher throughput, we take advantage of a Configurable Hybrid Photonic Plasmonic Interconnect (CHyPPI) for our reconfigurable connections. We evaluate the performance and power of our system against kernels from NAS Parallel Benchmark (NPB) in addition to some synthetically generated traffic. In comparison to a 16x16 base electrical mesh, D3NOC shows up to 89% latency and 67% dynamic power net improvements beyond overhead-corrected performance. It should be noted that the design-space of NoC reconfiguration is vast and the goal of this study is not design-space exploration. Our goal is to show the potentials of adaptive dynamic measurements when coupled with other reconfiguration techniques in the NoC context.

Optical interconnect is a potential solution to attain the large bandwidth on-chip communications needed in high performance computers in a low power and low cost manner. Mode-division multiplexing (MDM) is an emerging technology that scales the capacity of a single wavelength carrier by the number of modes in a multimode waveguide, and is attractive as a cost-effective means for high bandwidth density on-chip communications. Advanced modulation formats with high spectral efficiency in MDM networks can further improve the data rates of the optical link. Here, we demonstrate an intra-chip MDM communications link employing advanced modulation formats with two waveguide modes. We demonstrate a compact single wavelength carrier link that is expected to support 2x100 Gb/s mode multiplexed capacity. The network comprised integrated microring modulators at the transmitter, mode multiplexers, multimode waveguide interconnect, mode demultiplexers and integrated germanium on silicon photodetectors. Each of the mode channels achieves 100 Gb/s line rate with 84 Gb/s net payload data rate at 7% overhead for hard-decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) in the OFDM/16-QAM signal transmission.
Recently, asymmetric plasmonic nanojunctions [Karnetzky et. al., Nature Comm. 2471, 9 (2018)] have shown promise as on-chip electronic devices to convert femtosecond optical pulses to current bursts, with a bandwidth of multi-terahertz scale, although yet at low temperatures and pressures. Such nanoscale devices are of great interest for novel ultrafast electronics and opto-electronic applications. Here, we operate the device in air and at room temperature, revealing the mechanisms of photoemission from plasmonic nanojunctions, and the fundamental limitations on the speed of optical-to-electronic conversion. Inter-cycle interference of coherent electronic wavepackets results in a complex energy electron distribution and birth of multiphoton effects. This energy structure, as well as reshaping of the wavepackets during their propagation from one tip to the other, determine the ultrafast dynamics of the current. We show that, up to some level of approximation, the electron flight time is well-determined by the mean ponderomotive velocity in the driving field.
In this paper, we propose ART1 neural network clustering algorithm to group users according to their Web access patterns. We compare the quality of clustering of our ART1 based clustering technique with that of the K-Means and SOM clustering algorithms in terms of inter-cluster and intra-cluster distances. The results show the average inter-cluster distance of ART1 is high compared to K-Means and SOM when there are fewer clusters. As the number of clusters increases, average inter-cluster distance of ART1 is low compared to K-Means and SOM which indicates the high quality of clusters formed by our approach.
Quantum teleportation is a fundamental concept in quantum physics which now finds important applications at the heart of quantum technology including quantum relays, quantum repeaters and linear optics quantum computing (LOQC). Photonic implementations have largely focussed on achieving long distance teleportation due to its suitability for decoherence-free communication. Teleportation also plays a vital role in the scalability of photonic quantum computing, for which large linear optical networks will likely require an integrated architecture. Here we report the first demonstration of quantum teleportation in which all key parts - entanglement preparation, Bell-state analysis and quantum state tomography - are performed on a reconfigurable integrated photonic chip. We also show that a novel element-wise characterisation method is critical to mitigate component errors, a key technique which will become increasingly important as integrated circuits reach higher complexities necessary for quantum enhanced operation.
Dielectric laser acceleration (DLA) represents a promising approach to building miniature particle accelerators on a chip. However, similar to conventional RF accelerators, an automatic and reconfigurable control mechanism is needed to scale DLA technology towards high energy gains and practical applications. We present a system providing control of the laser coupling to DLA using integrated optics and introduce a novel component for power distribution using a reconfigurable mesh of Mach-Zehnder interferometers. We show how such a mesh may be sequentially and efficiently tuned to optimize power distribution in the circuit and find that this strategy has favorable scaling properties with respect to size of the mesh.
