Approximate Symbol error rate (SER), outage probability and rate expressions are derived for receive diversity system employing optimum combining when both the desired and the interfering signals are subjected to Rician fading, for the cases of a) equal power uncorrelated interferers b) unequal power interferers c) interferer correlation. The derived expressions are applicable for an arbitrary number of receive antennas and interferers and for any quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) constellation. Furthermore, we derive a simple closed form expression for SER in the interference-limited regime, for the special case of Rayleigh faded interferers. A close match is observed between the SER, outage probability and rate results obtained through the derived analytical expressions and the ones obtained from Monte-Carlo simulations.

This paper addresses one of the classical problems in random matrix theory-- finding the distribution of the maximum eigenvalue of the correlated Wishart unitary ensemble. In particular, we derive a new exact expression for the cumulative distribution function (c.d.f.) of the maximum eigenvalue of a $2times 2$ correlated non-central Wishart matrix with rank-$1$ mean. By using this new result, we derive an exact analytical expression for the outage probability of $2times 2$ multiple-input multiple-output maximum-ratio-combining (MIMO-MRC) in Rician fading with transmit correlation and a strong line-of-sight (LoS) component (rank-$1$ channel mean). We also show that the outage performance is affected by the relative alignment of the eigen-spaces of the mean and correlation matrices. In general, when the LoS path aligns with the least eigenvector of the correlation matrix, in the {it high} transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime, the outage gradually improves with the increasing correlation. Moreover, we show that as $K$ (Rician factor) grows large, the outage event can be approximately characterized by the c.d.f. of a certain Gaussian random variable.
This paper considers uplink massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with lowresolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) over Rician fading channels. Maximum-ratio-combining (MRC) and zero-forcing (ZF) receivers are considered under the assumption of perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI). Low-resolution ADCs are considered for both data detection and channel estimation, and the resulting performance is analyzed. Asymptotic approximations of the spectrum efficiency (SE) for large systems are derived based on random matrix theory. With these results, we can provide insights into the trade-offs between the SE and the ADC resolution and study the influence of the Rician K-factors on the performance. It is shown that a large value of K-factors may lead to better performance and alleviate the influence of quantization noise on channel estimation. Moreover, we investigate the power scaling laws for both receivers under imperfect CSI and it shows that when the number of base station (BS) antennas is very large, without loss of SE performance, the transmission power can be scaled by the number of BS antennas for both receivers while the overall performance is limited by the resolution of ADCs. The asymptotic analysis is validated by numerical results. Besides, it is also shown that the SE gap between the two receivers is narrowed down when the K-factor is increased. We also show that ADCs with moderate resolutions lead to better energy efficiency (EE) than that with high-resolution or extremely low-resolution ADCs and using ZF receivers achieve higher EE as compared with the MRC receivers.

In this paper, we focus on the physical layer security for a K-user multiple-input-single-output (MISO) wiretap channel in the presence of a malicious eavesdropper, where we propose several interference exploitation (IE) precoding schemes for different types of the eavesdropper. Specifically, in the case where a common eavesdropper decodes the signal directly and Eves full channel state information (CSI) is available at the transmitter, we show that the required transmit power can be further reduced by re-designing the `destructive region of the constellations for symbol-level precoding and re-formulating the power minimization problem. We further study the SINR balancing problems with the derived `complete destructive region with full, statistical and no Eves CSI, respectively, and show that the SINR balancing problem becomes non-convex with statistical or no Eves CSI. On the other hand, in the presence of a smart eavesdropper using maximal likelihood (ML) detection, the security cannot be guaranteed with all the existing approaches. To this end, we further propose a random jamming scheme (RJS) and a random precoding scheme (RPS), respectively. To solve the introduced convex/non-convex problems in an efficient manner, we propose an iterative algorithm for the convex ones based on the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions, and deal with the non-convex ones by resorting to Taylor expansions. Simulation results show that all proposed schemes outperform the existing works in secrecy performance, and that the proposed algorithm improves the computation efficiency significantly.

In this paper, a framework of beamspace channel estimation in millimeter wave (mmWave) massive MIMO system is proposed. The framework includes the design of hybrid precoding and combining matrix as well as the search method for the largest entry of over-sampled beamspace receiving matrix. Then based on the framework, three channel estimation schemes including identity matrix approximation (IA)-based scheme, scattered zero off-diagonal (SZO)-based scheme and concentrated zero off-diagonal (CZO)-based scheme are proposed. These schemes together with the existing channel estimation schemes are compared in terms of computational complexity, estimation error and total time slots for channel training. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes outperform the existing schemes and can approach the performance of the ideal case. In particular, total time slots for channel training can be substantially reduced.
This paper considers crowded massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communications over a Rician fading channel, where the number of users is much greater than the number of available pilot sequences. A joint user identification and line-of-sight (LOS) component derivation algorithm is proposed without requiring a threshold. Based on the derived LOS component, we design a LOS-only channel estimator and an updated channel estimator.
