We investigate the evolution of decorrelation bandwidth of inter core crosstalk (IC-XT) in homogeneous weakly coupled multicore fibers (WC-MCFs). The modified mode-coupled equations (MCEs) are numerically solved by combining the fourth order Runge-Kutta method and compound Simpson integral method. It can be theoretically and numerically observed that the decorrelation bandwidth of IC-XT decreases with transmission distance by fractional linear function. The evolution rule of IC-XTs decorrelation bandwidth is further confirmed by experiments, which can be used as an evaluation criterion for channel model. Finally, we propose a new channel model with the coupling matrix of IC-XT generated automatically by phase transfer function (PTF), which is in good agreement with the above evaluation criterion. We believe the proposed channel model can provide a good simulation platform for homogeneous WC-MCF based communication systems.

To analyze a homogeneous weakly coupled multicore fiber (WC-MCF) based transmission system via simulation, we propose an efficient (fast and accurate) WC-MCFs channel model, which can describe the propagation effects including attenuation, walk-off, chromatic dispersion, self-phase modulation (SPM), and especially the frequency-dependent inter-core crosstalk (XT). We speed up the simulation with two orders of magnitude by simplifying the XTs calculation. On one hand, the calculation step size can be greatly increased by utilizing a new XTs coupling matrix. On the other hand, the calculation of XT can be further accelerated by down-sampling XTs coupling matrix in frequency domain. The XT power and average occurrence distance should be set manually based on the existing XT model to describe the frequency-dependent XT the same as a real WC-MCF. We numerically and experimentally observed that XTs de-correlation bandwidth decreases with relative time delay (RTD) by fractional linear function. The range of validity of the proposed channel model is also discussed with different walk-off and coupling strength. We believe the proposed efficient channel model can provide great help for analysis and optimization of homogeneous WC-MCF based optical communication systems.

We numerically discussed crosstalk impacts on homogeneous weakly-coupled multicore fiber based intensity modulation/direct-detection (IM/DD) systems taking into account mean crosstalk power fluctuation, walk-off between cores, laser frequency offset, and laser linewidth.
Inspired by the recent work by Dietrich et al., substantiating validity of the adiabatic assumption in coupled-channel calculations, we explore the possibility of generalizing a global spherical optical model potential (OMP) to make it usable in coupled-channel calculations on statically deformed nuclei. The generalization consists in adding the coupling of the ground state rotational band, deforming the potential by introducing appropriate quadrupole and hexadecupole deformation and correcting the OMP radius to preserve volume integral of the spherical OMP. We choose isotopes of three rare-earth elements (W, Ho, Gd), which are known to be nearly perfect rotors, to perform a consistent test of our conjecture on integrated cross sections as well as on angular distributions for elastic and inelastic neutron scattering. When doing this we employ the well-established Koning-Delaroche global spherical potential and experimentally determined deformations without any adjustments. We observe a dramatically improved agreement with experimental data compared to spherical optical model calculations. The effect of changing the OMP radius to preserve volume integral is moderate but visibly improves agreement at lower incident energies. We find that seven collective states need to be considered for the coupled-channel calculations to converge. Our results for total, elastic, inelastic, and capture cross sections, as well as elastic and inelastic angular distributions are in remarkable agreement with experimental data. This result confirms that the adiabatic assumption holds and can extend applicability of the global spherical OMP to rotational nuclei in the rare-earth region, essentially without any free parameter. Thus, quite reliable coupled-channel calculations can be performed on such nuclei even when the experimental data, and consequently a specific coupled-channel potential, are not available.
We demonstrate the stabilization of two-dimensional nonlinear wave patterns by means of a dissipative confinement potential. Our analytical and numerical analysis, based on the generalized dissipative Gross-Pitaevskii equation, makes use of the close analogy between the dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate and that of mode-locked fiber laser, operating in the anomalous dispersion regime. In the last case, the formation of stable two-dimensional patterns corresponds to spatiotemporal mode-locking, using dissipation-enhanced mode cleaning. We analyze the main scenarios of pattern destabilization, varying from soliton dissolution to its splitting and spatiotemporal turbulence, and their dependence on graded dissipation.
Compact fiber-to-chip couplers play an important role in optical interconnections, especially in data centers. However, the development of couplers has been mostly limited to standard single-mode fibers, with few devices compatible with multicore and multimode fibers. Through the use of state-of-the-art optimization algorithms, we designed two ultra-compact couplers for use in a seven-core fiber with 32 $mu$m core spacing. We demonstrate for the first time a compact dual-polarization coupler capable of addressing all cores simultaneously, with measured coupling efficiency of $-$4.3 dB and with a 3-dB bandwidth of 48 nm. We also demonstrate a single-polarization coupler with efficiency of $-$2.9 dB and an operating bandwidth of 77 nm. The dual-polarization coupler has footprint of 20 $mu$m $times$ 10 $mu$m per core, which makes it the smallest fiber-to-chip coupler experimentally demonstrated on a standard silicon-on-insulator platform.
