We study the approach towards equilibrium in a dynamic Ising model, the Q2R cellular automaton, with microscopic reversibility and conserved energy for an infinite one-dimensional system. Starting from a low-entropy state with positive magnetisation, we investigate how the system approaches equilibrium characteristics given by statistical mechanics. We show that the magnetisation converges to zero exponentially. The reversibility of the dynamics implies that the entropy density of the microstates is conserved in the time evolution. Still, it appears as if equilibrium, with a higher entropy density is approached. In order to understand this process, we solve the dynamics by formally proving how the information-theoretic characteristics of the microstates develop over time. With this approach we can show that an estimate of the entropy density based on finite length statistics within microstates converges to the equilibrium entropy density. The process behind this apparent entropy increase is a dissipation of correlation information over increasing distances. It is shown that the average information-theoretic correlation length increases linearly in time, being equivalent to a corresponding increase in excess entropy.

We present a new approach to a classical problem in statistical physics: estimating the partition function and other thermodynamic quantities of the ferromagnetic Ising model. Markov chain Monte Carlo methods for this problem have been well-studied, although an algorithm that is truly practical remains elusive. Our approach takes advantage of the fact that, for a fixed bond strength, studying the ferromagnetic Ising model is a question of counting particular subgraphs of a given graph. We combine graph theory and heuristic sampling to determine coefficients that are independent of temperature and that, once obtained, can be used to determine the partition function and to compute physical quantities such as mean energy, mean magnetic moment, specific heat, and magnetic susceptibility.
We address the link between the controllability or observability of a stochastic complex system and concepts of information theory. We show that the most influential degrees of freedom can be detected without acting on the system, by measuring the time-delayed multi-information. Numerical and analytical results support this claim, which is developed in the case of a simple stochastic model on a graph, the so-called voter model. The importance of the noise when controlling the system is demonstrated, leading to the concept of control length. The link with classical control theory is given, as well as the interpretation of controllability in terms of the capacity of a communication canal.
An exact analytical diagonalization is used to solve the two dimensional Extended Hubbard Model for system with finite size. We have considered an Extended Hubbard Model (EHM) including on-site and off-site interactions with interaction energy U and V respectively, for square lattice containing 4*4 sites at one-eighth filling with periodic boundary conditions, recently treated by Kovacs et al [1]. Taking into account the symmetry properties of this square lattice and using a translation linear operator, we have constructed a r-space basis, only, with 85 state-vectors which describe all possible distributions for four electrons in the 4*4 square lattice. The diagonalization of the 85*85 matrix energy allows us to study the local properties of the above system as function of the on-site and off-site interactions energies, where, we have shown that the off-site interaction encourages the existence of the double occupancies at the first exited state and induces supplementary conductivity of the system.

We consider the Ising model on the Bethe lattice with aperiodic modulation of the couplings, which has been studied numerically in Phys. Rev. E 77, 041113 (2008). Here we present a relevance-irrelevance criterion and solve the critical behavior exactly for marginal aperiodic sequences. We present analytical formulae for the continuously varying critical exponents and discuss a relationship with the (surface) critical behavior of the aperiodic quantum Ising chain.
We introduce a model of interacting lattices at different resolutions driven by the two-dimensional Ising dynamics with a nearest-neighbor interaction. We study this model both with tools borrowed from equilibrium statistical mechanics as well as non-equilibrium thermodynamics. Our findings show that this model keeps the signature of the equilibrium phase transition. Moreover the critical temperature of the equilibrium models correspond to the state maximizing the entropy and delimits two out-of-equilibrium regimes, one satisfying the Onsager relations for systems close to equilibrium and one resembling convective turbulent states. Since the model preserves the entropy and energy fluxes in the scale space, it seems a good candidate for parametric studies of out-of-equilibrium turbulent systems.
