When bosonic matter in the form of a complex scalar field is added to Ellis wormholes, the phenomenon of spontaneous symmetry breaking is observed. Symmetric solutions possess full reflection symmetry with respect to the radial coordinate of the two asymptotically flat spacetime regions connected by the wormhole, whereas asymmetric solutions do not possess this symmetry. Depending on the size of the throat, at bifurcation points pairs of asymmetric solutions arise from or merge with the symmetric solutions. These asymmetric solutions are energetically favoured. When the backreaction of the boson field is taken into account, this phenomenon is retained. Moreover, in a certain region of the solution space both symmetric and asymmetric solutions exhibit a transition from single throat to double throat configurations.

We study a scale-invariant model of quadratic gravity with a non-minimally coupled scalar field. We focus on cosmological solutions and find that scale invariance is spontaneously broken and a mass scale naturally emerges. Before the symmetry breaking, the Universe undergoes an inflationary expansion with nearly the same observational predictions of Starobinskys model. At the end of inflation, the Hubble parameter and the scalar field converge to a stable fixed point through damped oscillations and the usual Einstein-Hilbert action is recovered. The oscillations around the fixed point can reheat the Universe in various ways and we study in detail some of these possibilities.
We develop a number of novel black-bounce spacetimes. These are specific regular black holes where the area radius always remains non-zero, thereby leading to a throat that is either timelike (corresponding to a traversable wormhole), spacelike (corresponding to a bounce into a future universe), or null (corresponding to a one-way wormhole). We shall first perform a general analysis of the regularity conditions for such a spacetime, and then consider a number of specific examples. The examples are constructed using a mass function similar to that of Fan--Wang, and fall into several particular cases, such as the original Simpson--Visser model, a Bardeen-type model, and other generalizations thereof. We shall analyse the regularity, the energy conditions, and the causal structure of these models. The main results are several new geometries, more complex than before, with two or more horizons, with the possibility of an extremal case. We shall derive a general theorem regarding static space-time regularity, and another general theorem regarding (non)-satisfaction of the classical energy conditions.
In this work we study and compare the features of gravitational entropy near the throat of transversable wormholes formed by exotic matter and wormholes in galactic halos. We have verified that gravitational entropy and entropy density of these wormholes in regions near their throats are indistinguishable for objects of same throat, despite the fact they are described by different metrics and by distinct energy-momentum tensors. We have found that the gravitational entropy density diverges near the throat for both cases, probably due to a non-trivial topology at this point, however allowing the interesting interpretation that a maximum flux of information can be carried through the throat of these wormholes. In addition, we have found that both are endowed with an entropic behaviour similar to Hawking-Bekensteins entropy of non-rotating and null charge black holes.
We consider four-dimensional wormholes immersed in bosonic matter. While their existence is based on the presence of a phantom field, many of their interesting physical properties are bestowed upon them by an ordinary complex scalar field, which carries only a mass term, but no self-interactions. For instance, the rotation of the scalar field induces a rotation of the throat as well. Moreover, the bosonic matter need not be symmetrically distributed in both asymptotically flat regions, leading to symmetric and asymmetric rotating wormhole spacetimes. The presence of the rotating matter also allows for wormholes with a double throat.
We study the fully nonlinear dynamics of black hole spontaneous scalarizations in Einstein-Maxwell scalar theory with coupling function $f(phi)=e^{-bphi^{2}}$, which can transform usual Reissner-Nordstrom Anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS) black holes into hairy black holes. Fixing the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner mass of the system, the initial scalar perturbation will destroy the original RN-AdS black hole and turn it into a hairy black hole provided that the constant $-b$ in the coupling function and the charge of the original black hole are sufficiently large, while the cosmological constant is small enough. In the scalarization process, we observe that the black hole irreducible mass initially increases exponentially, then it approaches to and finally saturates at a finite value. Choosing stronger coupling and larger black hole charge, we find that the black hole mass exponentially grows earlier and it takes a longer time for a hairy black hole to be developed and stabilized. We further examine phase structure properties in the scalarization process and confirm the observations in the non-linear dynamical study.
