In high density quark matter under a strong external magnetic field, possible phases are investigated by using the two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with tensor-type four-point interaction between quarks, as well as the axial-vector-type four-point interaction. In the tensor-type interaction under the strong external magnetic field, it is shown that a quark spin polarized phase is realized in all regions of the quark chemical potential under consideration within the lowest Landau level approximation. In the axial-vector-type interaction, it is also shown that the quark spin polarized phase appears in the wide range of the quark chemical potential. In both the interactions, the quark mass in zero and small chemical potential regions increases which indicates that the chiral symmetry breaking is enhanced, namely the magnetic catalysis occurs.

By using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with a tensor-type four-point interaction between quarks, it is shown that there exists a possibility of a spin polarized phase in quark matter at finite temperature and density. When there exists the spin polarization, the spontaneous magnetization may occur if the effect of the anomalous magnetic moment of quark is taken into account. An implication to the compact star objects with strong magnetic field is discussed when the spin polarization occurs.
It is shown that spin polarization with respect to each flavor in three-flavor quark matter occurs instead of the color-flavor locking at high baryon density by using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with four-point tensor-type interaction. Also, it is indicated that the order of phase transition between the color-flavor locked phase and the spin polarized phase is the first order by means of the second order perturbation theory.
It is shown that the quark spin polarization may occur for each quark flavor by the use of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with a tensor-type four-point interaction between quarks, while the two-flavor color superconducting phase in two-flavor case may be realized at high density quark matter.

We study the mass spectra and decay process of $sigma$ and $pi_0$ mesons under strong external magnetic field. For this purpose, we deduce the thermodynamic potential in a two-flavor, hot and magnetized Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. We calculate the energy gap equation through the random phase approximation(RPA). Then we use Ritus method to calculate the decay triangle diagram and self-energy in the presence of a constant magnetic field B. Our results indicate that the magnetic field has little influence on the mass of $pi_0$ at low temperatures. While for quarks and $sigma$ mesons, their mass changes obviously, which reflects the influence of magnetic catalysis(MC). The presence of magnetic field accelerates the decay of the meson while the presence of chemical potential will decrease the decay process.
Some time ago we have derived from the QCD Lagrangian an equation of state (EOS) for the cold quark matter, which can be considered an improved version of the MIT bag model EOS. Compared to the latter, our equation of state reaches higher values of the pressure at comparable baryon densities. This feature is due to perturbative corrections and also to non-perturbative effects. Later we applied this EOS to the study of compact stars, discussing the absolute stability of quark matter and computing the mass-radius relation for self-bound (strange) stars. We found maximum masses of the sequences with more than two solar masses, in agreement with the recent experimental observations. In the present work we include the magnetic field in the equation of state and study how it changes the stability conditions and the mass-radius curves.
