Superfluidity, the ability of a liquid or gas to flow with zero viscosity, is one of the most remarkable implications of collective quantum coherence. In equilibrium systems like liquid 4He and ultracold atomic gases, superfluid behaviour conjugates diverse yet related phenomena, such as persistency of metastable flow in multiply connected geometries and the existence of a critical velocity for frictionless flow when hitting a static defect. The link between these different aspects of superfluid behaviour is far less clear in driven-dissipative systems displaying collective coherence, such as microcavity polaritons, which raises important questions about their concurrency. With a joint theoretical and experimental study, we show that the scenario is particularly rich for polaritons driven in a three-fluid collective coherent regime so-called optical parametric oscillator. On the one hand, the spontaneous macroscopic coherence following the phase locking of the signal and idler fluids has been shown to be responsible for their simultaneous quantized flow metastability. On the other hand, we show here that pump, signal and idler have distinct responses when hitting a static defect; while the signal displays hardly appreciable modulations, the ones appearing in pump and idler are determined by their mutual coupling due to nonlinear and parametric processes.

We report the observation of optical bistability in a microcavity pumped at the magic angle. Experimental evidence is given in the form of a hysteresis cycle of the nonlinear emission as a function of the pump intensity or the position of the excitation spot. The results can be well understood with simple theoretical considerations that underline the fundamental analogy between our system and an optical parametric oscillator.
Several platforms are currently being explored for simulating physical systems whose complexity increases faster than polynomially with the number of particles or degrees of freedom in the system. Defects and vacancies in semiconductors or dielectric materials, magnetic impurities embedded in solid helium cite{lemeshko13}, atoms in optical lattices, photons, trapped ions and superconducting q-bits are among the candidates for predicting the behaviour of spin glasses, spin-liquids, and classical magnetism among other phenomena with practical technological applications. Here we investigate the potential of polariton graphs as an efficient simulator for finding the global minimum of the $XY$ Hamiltonian. By imprinting polariton condensate lattices of bespoke geometries we show that we can simulate a large variety of systems undergoing the U(1) symmetry breaking transitions. We realise various magnetic phases, such as ferromagnetic, anti-ferromagnetic, and frustrated spin configurations on unit cells of various lattices: square, triangular, linear and a disordered graph. Our results provide a route to study unconventional superfluids, spin-liquids, Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition, classical magnetism among the many systems that are described by the $XY$ Hamiltonian.
We consider theoretically one-dimensional polariton ring accounting for both longitudinal-transverse (TE-TM) and Zeeman splitting of spinor polariton states and spin dependent polariton-polariton interactions. We present the novel class of solutions in the form of the localized defects rotating with constant angular velocity and analyze their properties for realistic values of the parameters of the system. We show that the effects of the geometric phase arising from the interplay between external magnetic field and TE-TM splitting introduce chirality in the system and make solitons propagating in clockwise and anticlockwise directions non equivalent. This can be interpreted as solitonic analog of Aharonov-Bohm effect.
We study anisotropies of helicity modulus, excitation spectrum, sound velocity and angle-resolved luminescence spectrum in a two-dimensional system of interacting excitons in a periodic potential. Analytical expressions for anisotropic corrections to the quantities characterizing superfluidity are obtained. We consider particularly the case of dipolar excitons in quantum wells. For GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures as well as MoS$_2$/hBN/MoS$_2$ and MoSe$_2$/hBN/WSe$_2$ transition metal dichalcogenide bilayers estimates of the magnitude of the predicted effects are given. We also present a method to control superfluid motion and to determine the helicity modulus in generic dipolar systems.
We study the properties of a binary microcavity polariton superfluid coherently injected by two lasers. The crossover from the supersonic to subsonic regime, where motion is frictionless, is described by evaluating the Bogoliubov spectra. We show that according to the Landau criteria, the coupling between the two components precludes the existence of superfluidity just for one component but not for the other. By analysing the drag force exerted on a defect, we give a recipe to experimentally address the crossover from the supersonic to the subsonic regime.
