A theory of dissipative nonlinear conductivity, $sigma_1(omega,H)$, of s-wave superconductors under strong electromagnetic fields at low temperatures is proposed. Closed-form expressions for $sigma_1(H)$ and the surface resistance $R_s(omega,H)$ are obtained in the nonequilibrium dirty limit for which $sigma_1(H)$ has a significant minimum as a function of a low-frequency $(hbaromegall k_BT)$ magnetic field $H$. The calculated microwave suppression of $R_s(H)$ is in good agreement with recent experiments on alloyed Nb resonator cavities. It is shown that superimposed dc and ac fields, $H=H_0+H_acosomega t$, can be used to reduce ac dissipation in thin film nanostructures by tuning $sigma_1(H_0)$ with the dc field.

The microwave response of high quality niobium films in a perpendicular static magnetic field has been investigated. The complex frequency shift was measured up to the upper critical fields. The data have been analyzed by the effective conductivity model for the type-II superconductors in the mixed state. This model is found to yield consistent results for the coherence lengths in high-kappa superconducting samples, and can be used with HTSC even at temperatures much below T_c. It is shown that for samples with high values of depinning frequency, one should measure both components of the complex frequency shift in order to determine the flow resistivity. The thick Nb film (160 nm) has low resistivity at 10 K, comparable to the best single crystals, and low kappa value. In contrast, the thinnest (10 nm) film has kappa ~ 9.5 and exhibits a high depinning frequency (~20 GHz). The upper critical field determined from microwave measurements is related to the radius of nonoverlaping vortices, and appears to be larger than the one determined by the transition to the normal state.
We investigate the influence of extended scatterers on the finite temperature and finite frequency microwave conductivity of d-wave superconductors. For this purpose we generalize a previous treatment by Durst and Lee, which is based on a nodal approximation of the quasiparticle excitations and scattering processes, and apply it to the analysis of experimental spectra of YBCO-123 and BSCCO-2212. For YBCO, we find that accounting for a slight spatial extension of the strong scattering in-plane defects improves the fit of the low temperature microwave conductivity to experiment. With respect to BSCCO we conclude that it is necessary to include a large concentration of weak-to-intermediate strength extended scatterers, which we attribute to the out-of plane disorder introduced by doping. These findings for BSCCO are consistent with similar analyses of the normal state ARPES spectra and of STM spectra in the superconducting state, where an enhanced forward scattering has been inferred as well.
We study the effect of a strong electric field on the fluctuation conductivity within the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory for the case of arbitrary dimension. Our results are based on the analytical derivation of the velocity distribution law for the fluctuation Cooper pairs, from the Boltzmann equation. Special attention is drawn to the case of small nonlinearity of conductivity, which can be investigated experimentally. We obtain a general relation between the nonlinear conductivity and the temperature derivative of the linear Aslamazov-Larkin conductivity, applicable to any superconductor. For the important case of layered superconductors we derive an analogous relation between the small nonlinear correction for the conductivity and the fluctuational magnetoconductivity. On the basis of these relations we provide new experimental methods for determining both the lifetime constant of metastable Cooper pairs above T_c and the coherence length. A systematic investigation of the 3rd harmonic of the electric field generated by a harmonic current can serve as an alternative method for the examination of the metastable Cooper-pair relaxation time.
We present detailed neutron scattering studies of the static and dynamic stripes in an optimally doped high-temperature superconductor, La$_2$CuO$_{4+y}$. We find that the dynamic stripes do not disperse towards the static stripes in the limit of vanishing energy transfer. We conclude that the dynamic stripes observed in neutron scattering experiments are not the Goldstone modes associated with the broken symmetry of the simultaneously observed static stripes, but rather that the signals originate from different domains in the sample. These domains may be related by structural twinning, or may be entirely different phases, where the static stripes in one phase are pinn

Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the extended impurity scatterers on the quasiparticle transport of cuprate superconductors in the superconducting state is studied based on the nodal approximation of the quasiparticle excitations and scattering processes. It is shown that there is a cusplike shape of the energy dependent microwave conductivity spectrum. At low temperatures, the microwave conductivity increases linearly with increasing temperatures, and reaches a maximum at intermediate temperature, then decreases with increasing temperatures at high temperatures. In contrast with the dome shape of the doping dependent superconducting gap parameter, the minimum microwave conductivity occurs around the optimal doping, and then increases in both underdoped and overdoped regimes.
