We study the angular broadening of a medium-induced QCD cascade. We derive the equation that governs the evolution of the average transverse momentum squared of the gluons in the cascade as a function of the medium length, and we solve this equation analytically. Two regimes are identified. For a medium of a not too large size, and for not too soft gluons, the transverse momentum grows with the size of the medium according to standard momentum broadening. The other regime, visible for a medium of a sufficiently large size and very soft gluons, is a regime dominated by multiple branchings: there, the average transverse momentum saturates to a value that is independent of the size of the medium. This structure of the in-medium QCD cascade is, at least qualitatively, compatible with the recent data on dijet asymmetry.

We provide a complete description of the angular distribution of gluons in a medium-induced QCD cascade. We identify two components in the distribution, a soft component dominated by soft multiple scatterings, and a hard component dominated by a few hard scatterings. The typical angle that marks the boundary between these two components is determined analytically as a function of the energy of the observed gluon and the size of the medium. We construct the complete solution (beyond the diffusion approximation) in the regime where multiple branchings dominate the dynamics of the cascade in the form of a power series in the number of collisions with the medium particles. The coefficients of this expansions are related to the moments of the distribution in the diffusion approximation and are determined analytically. The angular distribution may be useful in phenomenological studies of jet shapes in heavy-ion collisions.
We investigate the radiative break-up of a highly energetic quark or gluon in a high-temperature QCD plasma. Within an inertial range of momenta $T ll omega ll E$, where $E$ denotes the energy of the original hard parton (jet) and $T$ the temperature of of the medium, we find that, as a result of the turbulent nature of the underlying parton cascade, the quark to gluon ratio of the soft fragments tends to a universal constant value that is independent of the initial conditions. We discuss implications of this result to jet quenching physics and the problem of thermalization of the quark-gluon plasma in heavy ion collisions.
The structure of the SU(3) gauge-field vacuum is explored through visualisations of centre vortices and topological charge density. Stereoscopic visualisations highlight interesting features of the vortex vacuum, especially the frequency with which singular points appear and the important connection between branching points and topological charge. This work demonstrates how visualisations of the QCD ground-state fields can reveal new perspectives of centre-vortex structure.
We have computed the hard dilepton production rate from a weakly magnetized deconfined QCD medium within one-loop photon self-energy by considering one hard and one thermomagnetic resummed quark propagator in the loop. In the presence of the magnetic field, the resummed propagator leads to four quasiparticle modes. The production of hard dileptons consists of rates when all four quasiquarks originating from the poles of the propagator individually annihilate with a hard quark coming from a bare propagator in the loop. Besides these, there are also contributions from a mixture of pole and Landau cut part. In weak field approximation, the magnetic field appears as a perturbative correction to the thermal contribution. Since the calculation is very involved, for a first effort as well as for simplicity, we obtained the rate up to first order in the magnetic field, i.e., ${cal O}[(eB)]$, which causes a marginal improvement over that in the absence of magnetic field.
The impact of momentum anisotropy on the heavy quark transport coefficients due to collisional and radiative processes in the QCD medium has been studied within the ambit of kinetic theory. Anisotropic aspects (momentum) are incorporated into the heavy quark dynamics through the non-equilibrium momentum distribution function of quarks, antiquarks, and gluons. These non-equilibrium distribution functions that encode the physics of momentum anisotropy and turbulent chromo-fields have been obtained by solving the ensemble-averaged diffusive Vlasov-Boltzmann equation. The momentum dependence of heavy quark transport coefficients in the medium is seen to be sensitive to the strength of the anisotropy for both collisional and radiative processes. In addition, the collisional and radiative energy loss of the heavy quark in the anisotropic hot QCD medium have been analyzed. The effects of anisotropy on the drag and diffusion coefficients are observed to have a visible impact on the nuclear suppression factor both at the RHIC and LHC.
